space tanks! destructible terrain! cat girls! Astro Port lore! save system! reasonable difficulty!
Very cool very fun quite the adventure takes a bit from most of their previous titles and mashes them together well with Rocketron style graphics but as a destructible shmup with player dependant scrolling ala in the hunt & Mr HELI or Astro Kitty. Art wise and game-wise there's a lil SWIV(Firepower 2000) Sub Terrania master blaster about it. Lots of vehicles (12) or should i say VulVehicles with varying weapons/strengths some similar to astro franchises gone by, choosing 3 for each battle world u can openly choose it again unless you obliterate it. 6 unique bi-ome worlds 4 stages in each. Kinda nice they used their more recent sfc style grafx but with a shmup back in limelight again as opposed to their older shmups. Lots of difficulty levels with great introductory levels if new or of lower ability. Not massively long play through but can be saved, worthy of time & money 8.5/10
Another great Astro Port run-and-gun, with a couple twists- all terrain is destructible, and you can fly around freely. This gives it a different feel from the previous games, and if you're coming here from those it might take a while to click. Gigantic Army, Steel Strider and Mechblaze had really tight stage and boss fight design, and that isn't really possible here- stages get blasted apart as you pass through them, you can route through them flexibly, and there's a dozen playable vehicles with a wide range of abilities. Armored Lab Force feels more chaotic than those games, but in a good way. You're encouraged to swap between different tanks, and thus playstyles, regularly as your vehicles get damaged or destroyed. Every vehicle is good at something, but without any of them feeling obligatory. And destroying terrain lets you approach stages in different ways on different playthroughs. Like other Astro Port games, Armored Lab Force is rewarding to replay - chasing 1CCs on higher difficulties, higher scores, or just to experiment with different tanks. The difficulty does feel lower than usual, so you might wanna crank it up. At its best, Armored Lab Force is a tense exercise in improvisation where you might have to switch tactics at a moment's notice. Also the cutscenes are basically a Cute Girls Doing Cute Things anime, but instead of doing cute things the cute girls just endlessly loredump about the "Astro Saga" setting. It rules. I can't believe this game and Meglilo exist in the same setting as the grim military scifi from Gigantic Army and Steel Strider. Like what even is this series. Who is the target audience for all this. Me, I guess. Probably you, if you're reading this. You should play Armored Lab Force Vulvehicles.
This game is...weird. It's about a band of scientists...no actually make that a band of misfits who say they are scientists trying to defend their lab from the invading "Terran Defense Force". While using a variety of combat vehicles they just so happened to have lying around the lab. Yeah. it's that kind of plot, and it can largely be safely ignored though it did manage to squeak out a giggle or two on my part. You aren't here for the plot. Thankfully the combat is much better and more interesting. On normal I wouldn't say anything was all that hard, but there are a few mechanics that makes it unique from a lot of shooters. First off you flight time is limited drastically, and recharging is inefficient. Luckily you have two other tanks to switch between, though you do need to land and charge the teleport for a second. But this lets one tank recharge their flight bar while another attacks. On top of this each tank has it's own life bar, and once it's gone the tank explodes and is gone for the rest of the game. So every hit you take matters, and since all tanks are unique this doubly hits hard. There are power ups you can get, but these are very limited. So while healing does occur between areas, there are generally four stages per area. So combined with generally only one health pickup per stage, and while the enemies aren't hard to take down, the limited healing and the fact that the enemies re-spawn after a moment makes for tense and fast paced game play. It's this weird "not hard but difficult" kind of zone of toughness. Overall I enjoy the game, though it's pretty darn short. I beat it in an hour and a half on normal. I enjoyed the full package, even the "cutscenes" which I know not everyone might. But the game play itself is fun and I can see myself going back for more when the more arcade mood hits me. But I won't fault anyone for waiting for a sale, though I don't regret getting it at full price.
Pretty good, Not Astro Port's best but by no means a bad game, If you like previous ASTRO PORT titles, you'll be fine here, no matter how you feel about the waifus. TL:DR Its an action game where the selling point is either anime girls piloting tanks or said tanks that can blast through the terrain. Your aiming isn't as flexible but the Vulvechs makes up for it using a variety of vehicle classes that have a lot of Tactical Variety, giving you multiple ways to approach a mission. I like the terrain deformation mechanic, if you have your head screwed on straight it gives you smart ways to take on challenges, All the tanks have interesting playstyles and the ability to fly/teleport switch gives you enough defensive options to evade enemies. Controls are a little odd but they arent bad, which is something ASTRO PORT generally struggles with in their weaker titles. I'm happy to report they did fine here despite it being a little unorthodox! YMMV on the Waifus/Writing, I don't care for the waifu focus and quite frankly bought it despite it. I bought this because it's Astro Port. Per the writing I had some chuckles and was at least engaged, though I'd like an option to not automatically advance text. I did like how they've been tying together all their different games, highlighting how you have been fighting different forces through different perspectives (Though where's a shoutout to my boys at ARGO EXPRESS?) As for stuff I don't like I'm unsure if constantly respawning enemies was a good idea, and I don't like how bosses are reused. Level design also doesn't feel as tight as normal ASTRO PORT games but I think that's because there's an unusual amount of variety you can use to tackle the situation so they had to keep the level design and enemies little on the safe/generic side so no tank is completley overpowered. Overall I think it's good, not great. Worth picking up if you already went through the other ASTRO PORT titles and want more.

Such a fantastic concept, and a real changeup from their other games. Taking inspiration from Master Blaster while giving Cybernator a break. If only it was a little harder, since most enemies die pretty quickly, including bosses. You'll want to play the game on one of the higher difficulties for this reason. It's also very short, arcade length about 1 and a half- 2 hours on your first playthrough. Although it's one of those games that makes you want more, so it has that going for it.
