This is really a well done game - does honor to JRPG and gives the players a new and wonderful world to explore. Also awesome the stary features the perspective of a blacksmith

Arelite Core is a fantastic RPG with a captivating story, engaging turn-based combat, and beautiful pixel art. The characters are well-developed, and the gameplay offers great depth and challenge. It's a must-play for fans of classic JRPGs. Highly enjoyable and highly recommended!
Arelite Core, developed by Dragon Slumber and published by My Way Games, is a retro-inspired role-playing game that clearly draws from the traditions of classic 16-bit JRPGs while attempting to carve out its own identity through subtle mechanical twists and a slightly different narrative framing. Instead of casting the player as an immediately heroic figure, the story begins with Karden, a blacksmith whose ambitions are initially grounded in mastering his craft rather than saving the world. This setup gives the early hours a more personal and grounded tone, though as the narrative unfolds, it gradually transitions into a more familiar high-stakes adventure involving ancient forces and a growing threat that must be confronted. The story follows a traditional structure, introducing a party of companions who join Karden on his journey, each bringing their own personalities and motivations into the mix. While the overarching plot leans heavily on established genre conventions, the character interactions provide moments of charm that help maintain engagement. Dialogue can occasionally feel uneven, and pacing issues sometimes disrupt the flow of the narrative, but there is a genuine sense of effort in how the game tries to build connections between its characters. It may not break new ground in storytelling, but it succeeds in delivering a cohesive and approachable narrative experience. Combat is where Arelite Core makes its most meaningful attempt to stand out. While it retains the familiar turn-based structure, it introduces a system built around different combat stances such as offensive strikes, defensive parries, and aggressive blitz attacks. These options create a dynamic rhythm in battles, encouraging players to think beyond simple menu selections and consider timing and positioning. The inclusion of combo mechanics further enhances this, rewarding players who maintain momentum and execute actions in a calculated sequence. Battles feel engaging without being overly complex, striking a balance between accessibility and strategic depth, though the overall difficulty remains moderate and rarely pushes players to fully master the system. Character progression offers a degree of flexibility, allowing players to distribute points across various abilities and adjust builds over time. This adaptability makes it easier to experiment with different playstyles and recover from earlier decisions, which is especially welcome in a game that encourages exploration of its combat mechanics. Crafting, tied to Karden’s role as a blacksmith, is present as a means of upgrading equipment and supporting progression. However, it does not play as central a role as the premise might suggest, often feeling like a secondary system rather than a defining feature. This is a missed opportunity, as a deeper integration of crafting could have reinforced the game’s unique identity. Exploration is largely linear, guiding players through a sequence of towns, dungeons, and story-driven areas. This approach keeps the pacing focused and ensures that players are rarely uncertain about where to go next, but it also limits the sense of discovery. Optional content is relatively limited, and the world, while functional, does not feel especially expansive. The game’s runtime reflects this design choice, offering a compact experience that can be completed without the extensive time commitment often associated with the genre. Visually, Arelite Core embraces a pixel-art style that aims to evoke nostalgia, though its execution can feel inconsistent. Character sprites and environments capture the essence of classic RPGs, but animations can appear stiff, and some areas lack the detail needed to create a strong sense of immersion. The presentation is serviceable and occasionally charming, but it does not consistently reach the level of polish seen in more refined retro-inspired titles. The soundtrack complements the overall tone with chiptune-inspired compositions, providing a fitting backdrop even if it does not leave a lasting impression. Technical performance is generally stable, though occasional issues such as minor glitches or uneven performance can appear. These moments are not frequent enough to undermine the experience entirely, but they do highlight the game’s indie origins and limited resources. Despite these rough edges, the core gameplay loop remains intact and enjoyable, allowing players to progress without major interruptions. What ultimately defines Arelite Core is its sincerity. It is a game that clearly understands and respects the genre it draws from, delivering an experience that feels familiar without being entirely derivative. While it does not fully realize all of its ideas—particularly in areas like crafting and world exploration—it succeeds in providing a solid and engaging RPG that captures the spirit of its inspirations. In the end, Arelite Core is best suited for players who appreciate traditional JRPG design and are willing to overlook some inconsistencies in favor of a focused, character-driven adventure. It may not redefine the genre, but it offers a well-constructed experience with enough unique elements to remain memorable. Rating: 7/10
