I don't understand the apparent smear campaign against this one. Sure, it's an indie offering that isn't quite as good as FInal Fantasy Tactics. Sure, it was talked up over a very long development cycle. Post-hype, it's a really fun game that you can snag on sale for a steal. The graphics are unique and quite good. The music is solid if different (kind of reminds me of parts of Chrono Trigger). The story is very engaging and told from creative perspectives. The skill development, while not free form class selection, is really interesting and leads to a broad variety of builds. There are some quirks, like the rare lock up or the fact that you can't really catch up levels on side characters that don't fit in every fight. For the latter, you just dismiss the ones that fall behind and hire new ones. You have more than enough gold to do anything. Push through it all. It's worth it.
I've been waiting for this guy to come out for quiet some time. I have gotten stuck in attacking something when I have no legit target, I keep having to force it closed cause I get stuck unable to select anything. The story so far has promise but the dialog feels a little stale. I feel like there is more to the class system then I seen so far but getting bogged down and can't get to far without rage quitting so all I've seen kinda feels lacking.
if you look at my games from the Sega Genesis up to my desktop and every console my favorite games are all the Tactics games. FFT is a masterpiece, TO is just as good. there are so many games you can play. Dont buy or play this. Game play is ok, weird choices and QoL missing from it. This isnt even covering the drama and controversies(from lying to under delivering, from unhinge response to accusations of blatant theft..) Do not waste your time or money.
2.5/10 HUGE fan of fire emblem and FF tactics - story + art style - they all have crab hands - combat - NO WAY to click on that tile... i cant move or attack it - gameplay bugs - visual bugs - user interface - cant move screen after starting an attack so even if you have the range to attack you cant if you cant click them - trying to select units, places to move, people to attack.... oops i attacked my own unit again or tossed heal 1 block to far and healed enemy - doesnt auto save every level and if you lose its back to your last save - cant save mid level, even a quick save - hire npc system is 1 random person and you reroll them to change class and look. cant choose anything
This is the first time I've played an indie tactic RPG, and I've gotta say it left a great impression. While the game isn't without flaws, I enjoyed it from start to finish. The writing is really the strong point in Arcadian Atlas. There were surprising twists as well as plot developments I may have guessed at but played out in ways I didn't expect. The ending brought me to tears, and I always have respect when a story can tug on my heartstrings that well. Despite it being a fairly short game (Steam says 21 hours for me but my save file says 17), I really felt connected to the main protagonists and their story, as well as the goings-on in the political sphere. The soundtrack is very pleasant to listen to, but I'd have liked to see more variation in the tunes especially in Chapter 1. I do think it gets better as the game goes and as the stakes get higher. Gameplay is also great. A variety of classes and skill trees really let you build your party however you like. I was surprised to see that consumable items weren't in the game, but I appreciated the level of challenge that (and limited revives) brought to the battles. I played on the normal mode and found the difficulty very satisfying with some very intense fights. There is one gameplay bug I discovered, though; the sorcerer skill Blood Sacrifice claims to reduce the user's HP to 1, but that didn't ever happen when I used it, making it a quite OP skill. This game has pretty mixed reviews but IMO it was a pretty solid experience and I'd recommend it to anyone who would enjoy playing a short tactical RPG.
You would think after 26 years we would have amazing games to rival FFT instead of watered down versions of it.
FFTっぽいSRPG。レビューだと日本語翻訳が怪しいということだったけど、アプデで良くなってる。 全実績解除まで16時間。SRPGにしては小粒だね、FFTや重めのファンタジー話が好きなら。
Gameplay: 4/10

Graphics & Sound: 6/10

Narration: 4/10
✔️ Nice enough core gameplay mechanics, character building is rather fun, toying with status effects is kinda enjoyable. ✔️ Cool music. ✔️ Pixel art looks nice. 💭 The story is a bit nonsensical. People change sides and have personality shifts all the time without any explanation except "oh things changed", situations tend to go unsolved. ❌ The game is very opaque about a lot of stuff (skill, stats, statuses... descriptions), and a bunch of information it presents is just outright wrong. ❌ The progression is very confusing, you get levels only on characters that took part in battles, but you only have a limited number of battles during the campaign meaning you can't really make characters that fall behind catch up in experience - BUT ALSO you can recruit new characters for little money, so you essentially have to throw characters away and hire new ones if you want to try a bit of a different composition. All the while main characters almost always level up even when not taking part in battles. Honestly it would have been better to just make all your characters always share the same level, a lot less complex and confusing, for an overall similar gameplay result. ❌ A lot of UX issues - annoying navigation, lots of inputs required. ❌ A bunch of game-breaking glitches (don't target dead bodies with anything except resurrection skills). ❌ The creative direction isn't very consistent, and apparently the art is traced? Overall I'd say the game is a bit bad, but can still be enjoyed as a bit of a dumpster fire with somewhat fun tactical gameplay. I would have given a tame recommendation for it because it was far from being an outright awful experience, but apparently in addition to the game being pretty subpar, the dev has stolen some art from another game and has overall been an ass about any concerns players have expressed? So yeah nope, thumbs down, sorry.
It's a pretty decent game. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it does provide a solid sRPG experience. The job system is somewhat shallow but does provide some interesting customization. The biggest con of the game is, by far, the soundtrack. Every single theme is smooth jazz and it's really just too chill. Since there's no voice acting anyways, mute the game and play a more pumpin' soundtrack, and you'll have a better time!
I thought Arcadian Atlas was quite fun! I don't get the ire this game suffered in the reviews, as my only real complaints were that the ending felt very rushed and that by mid-game it was quite easy if you do all the side quests. Overall though, it was short and sweet, story was fun, and the tactical gameplay was great.
