Please follow United Critics for quality reviews
Good things:
It is a very disturbing and nasty and creepy horror game. I would hate to be forced to have the same dream every day and to be killed and eaten by a big spider every night. I really liked the pixel art in this game. It is strange but even when you know this is just a game and it has pixel art you still get immersed and forget this is just a game. I definitely felt creepy playing this game and felt watched by something. I must say I liked the puzzle segments of the game and the whole creepy atmosphere and the notes telling you different things and all the blood writings on different places were also a nice touch. You will die. A lot. But the good thing is that there are respawn points when you reach a certain place so you don’t have to do the part of the game that you already figured out again. It is fun to try different paths but they should be made in such way that you can see them all before moving into other segments of the level because if you got lucky and pick the right one from the start without a trail and error testing them you can skip much of the level design.
Bad things:
I didn’t like the running segments of the game as they didn’t really feel fair for me as I was never sure if monster is spawning before me or behind me or in one of the places where I can go or where. I also think that the lever puzzles in second level were really strange and had too few clues to be done. You also need a piece of paper or just remember all the places you already have been and checked in your last dreams to know where you can go and where you will find nothing new or die again.
Conclusion
If you love spiders and running and drugs and puzzles this game will be great for you. Overall score 6/10

Fantastic game, very well crafted atmosphere enhanced by haunting pixel graphic visuals. Brilliant music and sound design. All together is a very solid package and a very satisfying horror experience.
A game with atmosphere out the wazoo. Each of the three levels in chapter 1 feel very different from each other. The difficulty curve is a bit lopsided with level 1 being the hardest in the game by far. Despite having seen a video of level 1 before playing it myself it was the only level that I died on (and did so several times) not counting one death from falling down a bottomless pit =P I'll be updating the review once chapter 2 is out to sum up the full experience.
This is not a complete game, it is just a sort of introduction to a larger project (as the dev clearly states in the store page), but, since this version
effectively has a sort of conclusion
, I will review it as a finished product. Araignees is, simply speaking, an excellent horror puzzle game. Why excellent? Because the puzzle component is... somewhat hidden. As you play, you might have the impression to be playing a sort of trivial survival horror, but it is not like that at all. The puzzles are not slapped right in your face, you have to... "find" them. This leads to a very heavy trial and error component, but I guarantee that it is 100% part of the game. You HAVE to "die" repeatedly in order to figure out how to solve a particular situation. That's basically the puzzle component. This is a rather innovative way to design a horror puzzle game, but you have to try to fully understand what I am talking about, because... it is difficult to explain. And the other reason why I strongly recommend this game is its nearly PERFECT atmosphere. Rarely, while playing a horror game, I have been feeling so lost and helpless. This game is... oppressive, as every well made horror game should be. No jumpscares, just a constant and almost unbearable sense of dread and peril. All this is further enhanced by an extremely creepy ambience, some brilliant visual effects (the spiders dragging away their own webs gave me shivers!), and a truly terrifying creature design. Also, the plot is MUCH deeper than it may seem, and keeps you fully engaged from the beginning to the end. There are still a few problems that must be solved (I already reported them to the dev, and he/she showed a very mature and professional attitude towards my criticism), but overall this is a very well made introduction to a bigger horror project that I absolutely want to see in its full form, so I suggest we all show our trust and our support to this brave and talented indie dev. Personally, I wish him/her all the best! Good luck with this new journey of yours, I mean it! Cheers guys!
Really interesting game, i liked it the only 2 thing is, that i have a 5:4 monitor so the ui is messed up, and on the second night my fps dropped down (i have a gtx 1070 and Ryzen 7 2700X) and maybe Steam isn't the best for indie games? maybe have it on itch at the same time?
this was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ horrible in the best way possible
This game is really good and creepy, its just worth it. But i couldn't get over the main chamber or what it is.
interesting little game. i do not advise playing this if you have arachnophobia though
I'm dropping an early review with under an hour of gameplay. I'll update eventually but I just want to say this started to incredibly strong and the price is so right. The environments put you off balance with their almost cute aesthetic. Forces your guard down in a delightful way. Looking forward to finishing this out later this week when I can dedicate time to it.
