Reviews
I wish i could put on a positive review, but for this price the game still needs a lot of work. 1) Performance on i9 9900k + 64gb ram + rtx3070 + m2 SSD is fairly terrible with huge lag spikes, on mid graphics even on low i get around 10-30 fps most of the time after act 2. Also i get huge lag spikes when trying to change production or resources on production buildings. And i checked neither CPU nor GPU nor SSD are bottlenecking... 2) Mid-Late game is a PAIN. Micromanaging every single production and harvesting building on top of the cities on top of the armies etc makes it borderline unplayable, mostly because the UI/UX does nothing to make it easier. Menus are for each thing specifically, even on the top right that the menu for all buildings are is a mess. No map search. No "craft this until i have X and then craft something else until i have Y" etc. Feels quite overwhelming a turn so long to complete. My first game with 6 civs and Prince difficulty took me around ~45 hours to complete. Which is crazy. 3) Technology is a mess. you can get locked out of technologies permanently. And things get deprecated after some technologies and you cant ever build them again, but if you never unlocked the advanced technology you get locked out of some features forever... For example you can reach atomic age, have tanks and not be able to siege a city because it has walls, and apparently tanks cant bring them down. And you never unlocked artillery or w/e and because catapults were deprecated by industrialization or something, now you are stuck with having 3 catapults from the bronze age and guarding them with your life because you cant build them anymore and you end up with having divisions with 5 tanks and 1 catapult just to bring down the walls... Sure you could tell its skill issue for not knowing that i need all these things and not blindly go with tech tree but the game not giving you the options to acquire them after is stupid. At least in CIV you can go back to research and research this technology again. Overall i am not saying its a bad game, but these issues are pretty serious. I like the fact that it has crafting etc. i kinda like the micromanagement up to act 2 probably, But after that the game doesnt give you the tools to play on the same rate... I see the devs bringing worthy updates. Lets see... I'll change to positive review accordingly. Try it on a sale...

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 31: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Einfach unglaublich.
While the game mechanics are somewhat fresh and the game-play looks more promising that Civ7, the stability of the game is making it unplayable. I am having crashes every 50 turn in antiquity which then speeds up to every 10 turns and then every 5... Until this is fixed I can not even give a proper review as I can't play it past turn 150....
I do not know why there are so many negative reviews for this game. This game is fun to play. I do have one negative issue about this game. The AI players declare war on my civilization for no reason what so ever. They will also make demands for money & if I deny their demands, then they declare war. That is not how this game should be designed. If you can get pass the constant wars on your civilization, then this game is enjoyable.
Really wanted to like this game and I did at first because they definitely had some great ideas but unless you are a warmonger who enjoys destroying enemies, this game is not going to be good for you. I enjoyed my first several playthrough's as I learned the game but once I started playing more seriously I began to get more and more frustrated. Visually, the cities look awful. The buildings are spread so far apart and the roads end up spawning in a really weird way so it just makes everything look bad, especially the wonders which require an entire land claim instead of just a section of it. The AI forward settling and diplomacy is horrendous and will thrust you into wars because one moment the AI loves you and the next second they hate you and have settled a city on the opposite side of the world, right next to your capital! I thought this was something they said they had fixed but I guess not... If you like dealing with supply chains in city builders I suppose this game will be enjoyable but I overestimated just how much streamlining they have done since launch as its still very confusing trying to navigate through your chains. overall it has decent bones but if you are like me and prefer the creative aspects of designing a culture and nurturing a civilization with visually impressive cities and wonders, this game aint it.
I like the idea of this game but after hours and hours playing I realise im not having fun, im managing complex resource productions and not really doing much else, exploration isnt fun. Battles seem an afterthought. Being able to zoom right in on the map is nice. But my map is very cluttered so hard to spot my armies. I prefer a game like humankind.
If you're a fan of the Civilization franchise, or historical 4x games in general, ARA is - as of the 2.0 patch (free DLC) - the best of the bunch. A true spiritual successor of the Civilization franchise, unlike that other stinky mess Firaxis released earlier this year. Sid Meier is rolling over in his grave right now.
I think a lot of people are approaching this game the wrong way. You can’t just compare it to Civilization—it’s built on a completely different design philosophy. Everything in Ara History Untold points toward playing tall: the city cap, the era score system, the production chains, even the way battles work. To me, it’s closer to a city builder like SimCity than a traditional 4X. And from that angle, it’s actually pretty innovative. If Ara had tried to just be another Civ clone, it wouldn’t stand out. Instead, it’s experimenting with something new, and that’s where its real strength lies. That said, some of the production complexity feels overdone. Do we really need four or five different types of shoes? The chain could be streamlined without losing depth. But overall, the core design is solid, and I think the game deserves credit for pushing the genre in a different direction.
