I can't even imagine how the people of 1991 could possibly have felt upon being gifted with this work of art. It may well be the very first video game to which I would attribute such a moniker.
It was a great game back then, still great today. Great memories.
The game that created the cinematique platformer genre, or at least popularized it. Another World (or Out of this world in USA), is just one incredible experiment that was unrivaled back then. You play as Lester, a scientist who portals himself to an alien world. The game is exploring and escaping from all the hazards and enemies that get in your way, while trying to understand the alien technology. The visuals are painted vectors, giving a very unique atmosphere in an age where everything was pixel art. In the sound department, there's small synth cues but is general silent except for the plenty of sound effects. Apart from running and jumping, you quickly gain a laser gun which is crucial not only for combat, but to solve different puzzles and even breaking doors and walls down. There are a couple of sections that require lots of setup in different screens, like shutting down a power line in a room, then destroy a wall and escape from a water flood, etc. Most are fair, except for one late part where you need to destroy a non descript floor with a very unorthodox method. There's no tutorials nor any HUD at all, you just spawn in the alien world and need to figure stuff out. This was also a great mechanic choice, unheard at the time. Other future games that cemented this genre are Flashback and Heart of Darkness. Talking about this remaster, it's one of those where you can switch between newer and older graphics on the run. It removes a little pixelation and adds better lightning and more shaded colors. It's not a big change, but it's ok for modern audiences. The game is very short, with generous checkpoints you can beat it (with all the achievements) in under an hour. Still, this is the best way to play this classic. It's a shame that the obscure sequel, Heart of the Alien, for Sega CD has never been rereleased.
8/10
Its almost unplayable in 2026, but who am I to argue with history. The gaming World owes everything to Another World.
As I never played this game then, it is a difficult recommend for me. Great remaster but be aware this is a very old game which for today's standard has horrible controls.
古早科幻特有的中东风情,沙漠外星奴隶反抗,神秘能量盾和激光小枪 还有老屁股欧美动作冒险游戏特有的高难
Played it as a young boy on my amiga 500 . It was a very good game back then and still is. I highly recommend
