Another World is one of those rare games that you play every single year. It's longevity is not due the gameplay, the story, the graphics or the music, it's about the atmosphere and the experience. From the amazing intro all the way to the end of Lester's, or dare I say the player's, journey in this alien world this is one hell of a ride. And don't dismiss these words as just a rambling of a fan boy, Hideo Kojima (of Metal Gear Solid fame), Fumito Ueda (Ico) and Goichi Suda (Killer 7, No More Heroes) all agree with me.
overall good. can recommend it. the price of this game is in offer for -80% perfect.
The classic PC game from the chipped stone era of gaming is here, LOL. It runs alright and both the remastered graphics as the soundtrack adds a nice flavor to the experience. The gameplay feels a bit clunky when played nowadays but that's exactly how it was back in the day. If you've never tried it before, just test yourself to make as far as you can without checking any online walkthroughs, like we did in the old days, only resort to them if you get really stuck. Enjoy.
Reseña de Another World – 20th Anniversary Edition

Another World is a truly captivating game with a unique art style and atmosphere laced with a feeling of isolation and unease. It is beautifully animated using rotoscoping technique, similar to the Prince of Persia games. The game really doesn't hold your hand at all, and checking the controls in the 20th anniversary version or a manual for older versions is a must so you don't skip crucial parts on how to control your character. It still holds up well to this day, and the whole game feels a little bit like a somewhat surreal piece of art with its pacing and all the little details. I really enjoyed solving the puzzles and exploring the world, and while some of them are tough, Another World doesn't suffer from the infamous "moon logic" some of the older games are known for. From what I know, the 20th Anniversary version also has more checkpoints and an automatic save system, making the experience more streamlined and (somewhat) less frustrating than the originals. But don't worry, you will still die a lot. The combat can be a bit tough, but there is logic to it. Once you figure it out, you should feel quite confident. Also the enemies sometimes utilize some of the techniques (like
sticking just your gun through a shield
) that you can also use to gain an advantage. So pay attention ;) As for the 20th Anniversary Edition specifically, I personally prefer the original looks and sound - which it does let you select in the options. Another World's visual style is just too unique and captivating to me, so switching to the "remastered" version doesn't feel quite right. But it does try to stick to the original style, and mostly does decent job of it. I just prefer the raw original look, is all. You also get the original Amiga ROM as an extra with both Steam and GOG versions, OST, and some "making of" materials. The GOG version also includes the 15th Anniversary remaster as an extra, but based on what I've seen, it looks less faithful to the original than the 20th Anniversary edition.
Another World / Out of This World / Outer World (1991)
Masterpiece 35 years ago, and a masterpiece today.
This is a game that I can't even bring myself to finish playing. I played around two-thirds of the game, up until after I flooded the caves, before I decided that it definitely wasn't worth it. The art is crisp and clear, but that is about the only good thing about the game. I was first attracted to the game because of the hostile alien world setting, but the world turned out to be bizarre and boring. Really, the whole story, atmosphere, and pacing leaves a lot to be desired. For a remake, they did an abysmal job with the controls. For example, the sprint button and the fire weapon button is the same. So for me, I had it set to run with the Shift key. But if I wanted to fire laser projectiles, I also had to use the same Shift button. How stupid is that? The game was impossible to play without a walkthrough. At the beginning of the game, I was stuck and wasted over an hour trying to figure things out. Nowhere in the game, not even in the keybinds section, did it ever hint that you need to hold down the fire button for a long time to charge it to break enemy shields and walls. But even after that, I found myself getting stuck frequently. If I need a stupid walkthrough to play the game, then I might as well not play it and watch someone else play it on a gameplay video or something. The game is not intuitive at all, so you waste a lot of time running around trying to solve the puzzle on what to do next. This game has all the faults that games in the 80's and 90's had. Which is it tries its best to stall you and make you repeat things over and over to drag the game out as long as possible. I guess it makes sense. Back then, we didn't have a lot of memory for games. Some games required 20 floppy disks to save or install, but most games were limited to just one floppy disk. An HD floppy disk at that time could hold about 1.44 MB of data, and I believe that Another World just barely fit on one HD floppy disk. So they had to take a very short game and make it confusing and repetitive enough to drag it out several hours or days instead of making it beatable in five minutes. I was a kid when this game first came out. I was in a Radio Shack, and half the store was dedicated to hyping and promoting this game. But to play it, I needed a computer. I really wanted my dad to buy a computer, but he made excuses. He was always a cheapskate, so I did not have my first computer until two decades later. It was always my regret that I never got to play this game, so that is why I finally got around to buying this 20th Anniversary Edition. By the way, the game is actually over 35 years old. But oh, what a crappy game it is. Definitely was never worth buying any computer or game station for. NES games were so much better than this game. To put it simply, this game was never good. They could have improved on the game since then, but the 20th Anniversary Edition is also junk. The abysmal controls are an example of that. They did nothing to improve the game. If it were me, I would have remade the entire game instead of just remastering it, and I would have made the game much more modern, interesting, and longer. Also, I want to point out that there is a 2012 game called The Silent Age that has similar graphics and is infinitely better than this Another World game. So it just proves that Another World could have been remade into a much better game, but they were lazy and made no effort to do so. Also, quick note. Don't ever buy the GOG version of this game unless you are prepared for bugs. I think that version does not work unless you use the GOG Launcher or something. So that is why I paid $8 extra to buy it on Steam instead, but now I regret my purchase. I wish that i could get my $10 back. This game isn't even worth 25 cents.
