TLDR I'm obsessed with this game right now and get the urge to play every day but I have a lot of issues with how it functions so I overall don't recommend it. I have a lot more gripes with the game that I can probably add at a later date but below are the things that immediately come to mind that I have an issue with. Gameplay There are many mechanics that aren't well explained in the encyclopedia pop-ups. You'll probably find yourself googling things more than once because there are things the game just doesn't tell you or do enough to make clear. The alligator tag toy basically just doesn't work. The animal doesn't run away most of the time and just stands there and you click them to win the game immediately. It just serves an easy way to give them joy/complete a whim they have as an alternative to sitting there and holding down the pet button. The command training with the clicker and treats isn't great either because you have to wait for the pet to go through a slow animation process which specifically seems to have an issue performing the jump for the cats. They do this weird animation where their tail curls instead of actually jumping, so you have to look out for that if you need to train them to jump. A lot of animals will have a mandatory task of training them to do certain tricks before they can be eligible for adoption. Considering the above, this is annoying and makes me wish the breakpoint tasks weren't entirely mandatory and rather served as bonuses to get more money/reputation even if that would make the game too easy. The staff feel like they don't do enough, even when they have high stats. You're practically emptying your wallet to pay their wage just for an ugly NPC to get in your way and not do the work you actually need them to do. Washing the dogs is fun but they get dirty really quickly all the time so I wish the staff could wash them as well instead of just brushing them because the brushing only does so much. For the time I've played, the isolation rooms have been completely useless. I've had many sick pets but none of them needed the isolation room. I wish they were more out of the way so you wouldn't have to go through this useless room every time you need to get to the garage. In multiplayer, it doesn't notify you of anything anyone else is doing such as buying things/what they're buying. I don't recommend playing in multiplayer immediately, make sure you go through the tutorials for everything first because if someone else goes through them, it won't give you the full tutorial just the encyclopedia pop-ups. Not that the tutorial is great anyway but it helps at least to know the bare bones. The game is unfortunately more fun alone in my opinion which is sad because I bought the game initially to play with friends. For the DLCs, I made a separate review for the veterinary DLC because it is a mess. Just like the rest of the game, the pop-ups are usually not very thorough in explaining the game mechanics. This is specifically an issue for the microscope minigame. Maybe it was just a me thing, but it didn't occur to me that you might be able to move the microscope around with WASD because it literally does not tell you that you can do that. The dental care minigame takes a little too long for the lack of engagement it gives. Removing the plaque is kind of tedious and annoying rather than fun or satisfying. The nail trimming is probably the best one because you just have to click when the bar reaches the yellow or green points and if you hit the green, it does the entire minigame for you. I think you can see how that's an issue, but if you can't, the idea that the minigame that completes itself automatically is being the one viewed as the best because the others aren't entertaining is not a good reflection on the DLC as a whole. I also don't understand why the hunting dogs are a DLC. Just update the game to feature these breeds as well? I have all of the DLCs and the only one I can say is 'worth' being a DLC is the rodents. The other two DLCs feel like they should be base game. And a final pet peeve, no pun intended, the tablets default keybind is tab so it either brings it up or puts it down whenever you alt-tab. You can change the keybind to open the tablet but not close it. So if you alt-tab while you have it open, it will close the tablet. This is annoying. Audio & Visuals The pet noises are irritating in my opinion. The noises used for them walking around are awful, especially for the rodents because for some reason you can hear them through the wall of the shed when you're in the dog cages' yard. The rain pattering on the roof is really loud and is the sole reason I adjusted my volume to be lower. Audio cues glitch often, I've encountered a bug where the noise it makes when you complete a step of the washing process gets 'stuck' to the item you used. This happened with the shampoo, sponge, and dryer. Whenever I picked them up, they'd play the step finished noise. The lighting is bad. Things are often way too bright or way too dark. I've experienced the clinic room being both while the pet cages are too bright after upgrades 2 and 3. Its straining to look at and I can imagine its much worse for someone with any kind of photosensitivity. Something I think can be easily overlooked is the way it tries to guilt you into continuing to play which I personally feel is kind of... predatory (for lack of a better word, I know this is definitely not the intention and its supposed to be cute). I can imagine a child playing this game and feeling guilty for wanting or--even worse--needing to stop because the poor doggy and kitty are saying "We thought we were going to play some more" with sad faces on the pause menu. The same happens on the main menu screen where the husky and orange tabby look excited when you click play and upset when you click quit. I don't have an issue with the excited part but the latter is really not a good thing to have in your game especially when it's a game about animals that will most definitely be played by younger kids.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
Why you should or should not play Animal Shelter 2
Before You Read Every review on my profile is based on my own personal experience with a game. My opinions aren't facts, and you're not expected to agree with them—and that's perfectly okay. My goal isn't to tell you whether you should like a game. Instead, I try to explain what worked for me, what didn't, and who I think the game might appeal to. Constructive discussion is always welcome, but please remember there's a real person behind these reviews. Respectful disagreements are encouraged; insults, hostility, or personal attacks are not. What is Animal Shelter 2? In this game your goal is to help the animals in the area and then help them get adopted to compatible homes! Quick Pros ✔ Addictive gameplay loop ✔ Satisfying progression system ✔ Unique mechanics ✔ Easy to learn controls ✔ Relaxing game play ✔ High replay ability ✔ Lots of content to explore ✔ Beautiful environments ✔ Strong visual style ✔ Detailed world design ✔ Smooth animations ✔ Creative art direction Quick Cons ✘ Small player base ✘ Content locked behind paywalls Initial Thoughts: -"If this is anything like the first one this game is going to be so fun." -"Wait- you are telling me I can move ANYTHING? Okay- don't make me test my limits game." -"OMG LOOK HOW CUTE THIS DOG IS I CANNOT." Beginner Player Friendly? There are some aspects of this game that are a little bit confusing, however once you get the hang of everything I would argue that this game is beginner players friendly. There is a tutorial that helps you figure out what steps to take and how to take them. Game Play: In this game you have just opened and repaired your very own animal shelter! You can decorate, upgrade and manage your shelter to whatever you feel is the best way to do it. The decoration aspect is very free and you can place things wherever, however you want! The animal aspect is very personal, you can walk your pet at the local park, or you can groom them in your own animal washing station. You can also design their cage however you feel necessary with various types of items. There is much to explore in this revised version of this game! Graphics: The graphics have improved since the last game and the animals and their behaviors have become more realistic. The environment feels like an actual animal shelter would. Once the repairs start your animal shelters building starts to look beautiful. Everything about this game has been very improved since Animal Shelter 1! I believe this game could run on medium end systems. Community: The Animal Shelter community have always been very kind and supportive, writing all sorts of guides and making YouTube videos as well! Everyone seems like they would be kind and answer questions if needed. How long can you play? So far I have played around an hour and a half as of writing this review. I believe I will be able to get way more time out of this game as I loved the first one, I believe that there is no real 'completion' to this game and realistically you can play for an infinite amount of hours. I can picture myself playing for 10+ hours no problem! My Opinion: In my opinion I think they need to add horses again, and farm animals and then this will be the best Animal Shelter style game out there. I believe if you like animals and being a manager of a facility you may enjoy this game. Overall Review ★ 8/10 - A animal shelter game where you can assist the animals in your community and adopt them out to their best new partner in crime. (Family) ✔ Active Online Multiplayer (meaning people will interact with you in game) ✔ Family Friendly (meaning friendly to all ages) ✔ Solo Play ability (meaning you can play by yourself if preferred) ✘ Cross Compatibility (meaning you can play with friends through other consoles.) ✔ In-App Purchases (meaning you can buy things after buying the game i.e DLC's) ✔ Controller Compatible (meaning you can play this game with a controller) Enjoyed this review? would recomend, if the developers didnt become so money hungry. the new dlc with more breeds are 4 dollars and should absolutely be basegame content.. also kind of many bugs and very repetetive. the npc buyers also are completely motionless and robotic and the worker are in the way all the time. also they open every cage so the animals jut run around in the cageroom and into each others cages
I don't know how i feel about the price, even on sale for $20... But the devs SEEM to be trying to improve the game so I'm leaving a positive review. Otherwise, I'm enjoying it so far. It's not perfect but it's fun nonetheless.
The game is probably fun if you only run base game to start, however i bought the game during the steam sale with some DLC's attached. This has all but ruined the game, I'm not sure the thought process when adding these in, but at some level it just gives you all the dlc content randomly without any lead up or tutorial other than a block of text pop up. I genuinely feel like I got 3 animals adopted and suddenly I had to buy a million thing I didn't even know how to use. No option to ignore either because your newest animal wants the shiny new unlock but there were many and more kept unlocking just too fast. As a side note nowhere does it say I HAVE TO use my steam deck touch screen to do dental cleaning when I haven't had to use if for anything else. Spent 15 minutes confused and injured an animal in the process very annoying. AND any QOL feature turns off achievements...at least make time pause while I'm in the tablet.
Until you fix multiplayer, im leaving this here. the bugs are absolutely unplayable. this game has serious potential. but devs, you NEED to fix the bugs. it crashes every time the quests updates. it crashes every time my friend takes an animal out of the truck. it crashes randomly throughout normal gameplay. it crashes when joining. it crashes when i open doors occasionally. it is absolutely unplayable. im about to refund this game. its a shame, as i was expecting an amazing game for my girlfriend and I, but instead you have presented us with such a plethera of bugs that i could write a book. fix your game, seriously. this is probably the worst game for bugs I have ever played, and thats saying something because i used to have Microslop Flight Simulator 2020, and that was a terraruim for bugs. at least their game didnt crash every single oppertunity i gave it.
PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE THIS GAME. Gosh, I don’t even know what to say. The game itself isn’t terrible, but certainly isn’t worth $25 USD. The base game is extremely simple and gets really repetitive and if you want simple things like ‘hunting dogs’ and ‘terriers’ or ‘fluffy cats’ (genuine examples) you have to buy an entirely separate DLC. The price for each isn’t outlandish, yet at the rate at which they’re releasing DLC and the content they contain, the prices are starting to stack up which is ridiculous considering these things should all be in the base game. This greed isn’t a new thing—it’s been going on ever since the first game released. The DLC were terrible and buggy, all the while the developers never even fixed the countless bugs the base game itself had. I can’t even begin to describe my horror in trying out the horse DLC, but we don’t dwell on that considering this review is for AS 2. TLDR: The devs for this game are excessively money hungry and continue to pump out ridiculous DLC while ignoring blatant bugs existing in the main game. There are other games out there worth your money, this one certainly isn’t it. Maybe grab it if you like this sort of game and it’s on sale, but overall it’s a money grab and not worth it.
It’s a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ covered gem. I love what this game wants to be, but I need to be fair about the -honestly- unacceptable level of jank you’re getting when you buy this game. • Even if you repaint the cages, when you start the game up the cardboard will be back on the floors. • If you place food/water bowls on the top shelf in a cat cage, they will have fallen to the floor when you next start up the game. • If you place food/water bowls too close to each other, when you next start the game physics will knock them over as though they interacted. • Pets will get stuck on food bowls, pet beds, scratching posts, against doors and fences. • Pets will glitch through walls. • If you upgrade a room before the upgrade mission, it will ‘revert’ the progress, but the photobooth I had placed there stayed in place. • Even if a food bowl appears empty, you cannot fill it with a new food type. Once used for basic food, always basic food, you cannot repurpose it to hold senior food. I had to race staff (and lost) trying to set up bowls for different cat foods, kitten, senior, basic. There is no visual queue to tell you which food type is in which bowl, you’ll have to hover over a bowl with various foods to see which one prompts you to fill it. • Toys glitch between fences, making them irretrievable unless you (re)move a cage. • Assign pet to cage? Will put the name on their kennel, but the pet will bee line for bowls/beds/litter boxes in other cages. • Assign pet to cage seems meaningless to not just the pets but also the staff, you will find pets locked in unassigned cages, or find 1 cage holding multiple animals. • Litter boxes will often carry names of cats not assigned to that cage. • If missions need tools, it doesn’t register them when they are in your inventory. Not letting you leave for the mission before you put the desired tool into your quick-bar. • Playing tag works maybe once or twice on an animal. After that they just stand there. Every new day is rushing around to save the animals from your own shelter before they starve and get taken away. I wish I could give feedback on features that seem to be missing, like staff not washing dogs. The shop not being able to sort by ‘comfort’ levels, but also not really giving descriptors for what items are. It also seems far more heavily focussed on playing decorator than running a shelter. You’re constantly pelted with notifications about new assignments. Speaking to adopters, invited or otherwise, is absolutely pointless. The info is usually too little to really base a good match on. Selecting a pet for an adopter that visits at random rarely works out because the pets are not yet adoptable and its really hard to match their needs. Even through all that, I’m having fun, so it’s incredibly disappointing that these issues (if Im to rely on other reviews) are simply not being fixed.
Look I've sunk a lot of time into this and the first game and honestly? Don't, especially if you're hoping to co-op. The devs lie about bug fixes that haven't been even touched, and gaslight for a free update with more paid dlc's that they implied would be free for the anniversary. Achievements are STILL broken too, can't even get some without losing the whole game (looking at you Encyclopedia). Only reason I even play anymore is to get whatever achievements actually work because I'm a completionist. Would rather play the old Happy Tails Animal Shelter over this garbage cuz at least that game worked.
