The concept is really cute, the graphics are good, the style is great, and I really, really want to play this game for hours and love it. However, there are a few aspects of it that make it tedious as far as gameplay, and while I get it's a simulator, some of the actions and navigations could make a little more sense. My biggest issues are that for one, you can't unequip your equipped item unless you click on an empty slot or go to another. I would love to just click the quick slot number again to stop actively holding it. Also, PLEASE add being able to toggle through the inventory somehow? It's so annoying having to click into it and then move items manually around every time I need to use them for a single task, I'm constantly swapping items in and out of my quick slots (the ones that are numbered.) This makes every task feel very tedious and like a chore to accomplish something that really shouldn't be too complicated, and this is coming from someone who plays plenty of other simulator games that improve the ease of access for controls. It should feel like work, but satisfying, not frustrating work. Another issue is stocking up on supplies. PLEASE add an option to empty box contents neatly onto a storage shelf in which employees can access them. As it is right now, you have to manually take out the items from a box one at a time, with only the option to "add all" to your inventory quick slots (only 9 of them, and which are usually full) and then you have to AGAIN move items one at a time OUT of your inventory if you want to store them on a shelf somewhere for easier access. Yes, I can just keep them in the boxes, but they aren't labeled, so that just leads to looking through all the boxes until I find the things I need. There are so many simulator games that allow you to move a box of 10 items, and unload them neatly onto a storage shelf for easier access. This would be SO helpful, and honestly was one of the reasons I stopped playing because if I have to do that for all the items like food, water, bowls, toys, ect, I got tired just thinking about it. It's fine if you're caring for 1 or 2 animals, but having a full shelter and not being able to stock up supplies neatly in an organized way that won't take years? Would make it so much more satisfying and feel like the game isn't intentionally trying to waste my time. Please add a hot key/shortcut key for the camera? And a zoom feature would be nice. Having to tab into the tablet menu to then click on the camera icon seems avoidable. Otherwise, it's really cute and I love the concept, just wish it was a little more intuitive with the gameplay controls, because I'd be grinding it for days.

Animal Shelter 2: Prologue, developed by Games Incubator and published by Games Incubator and PlayWay S.A., offers a gentle and emotionally grounded simulation experience that centers on caring for abandoned animals and preparing them for new homes. As a prologue, it functions as both a standalone introduction and a preview of a larger project, but it already delivers a cohesive gameplay loop that emphasizes compassion, routine, and gradual progression. Rather than overwhelming players with complex systems, it focuses on creating a warm, approachable environment where every small action feels meaningful. The core gameplay revolves around managing a shelter and tending to the needs of its animals. You take in new arrivals, ensure they are fed and cleaned, treat any health issues, and spend time interacting with them to improve their well-being. These tasks are simple in execution but are framed in a way that highlights their emotional impact. Each animal feels like more than just a resource to manage, and the process of helping them recover and eventually find a home becomes the driving force behind the experience. The game succeeds in turning routine maintenance into something that feels rewarding rather than repetitive, at least in its early stages. One of the more notable additions is the inclusion of staff management, which introduces a light strategic element to the gameplay. Instead of handling every task yourself, you can assign responsibilities to hired workers, allowing the shelter to operate more efficiently as it grows. This system adds a sense of scale and progression, making the shelter feel like a living operation rather than a static space. At the same time, it remains accessible, avoiding the complexity that might otherwise disrupt the game’s relaxed pacing. The adoption system provides a clear sense of purpose for everything you do. Potential adopters visit the shelter with specific preferences, and it becomes your responsibility to match them with the right animal. This requires attention to each animal’s condition and personality, encouraging players to go beyond basic care and think about long-term outcomes. Successfully placing an animal in a suitable home creates a satisfying payoff that reinforces the emotional core of the game, making each adoption feel like a small success rather than just another completed objective. A standout feature of the Prologue is its cooperative multiplayer mode, which allows players to manage the shelter together. This adds a social dimension that complements the game’s theme of care and cooperation, making tasks more dynamic and engaging when shared with others. Dividing responsibilities and working as a team can make the experience feel more lively, especially during busier moments when multiple animals require attention at once. In terms of presentation, the game leans into a bright and welcoming visual style. The shelter is set in a natural environment that feels calm and inviting, and the animals are designed with enough detail and animation to make them expressive and endearing. While the graphics are not particularly advanced, they effectively support the tone of the game. Sound design follows a similar approach, using soft ambient audio to create a relaxing atmosphere that encourages players to take their time. As a prologue, however, the game’s limitations are evident. The available content is relatively small, and the core loop, while enjoyable, doesn’t evolve significantly over time. After a few hours, repetition begins to set in, and some systems feel more like previews of deeper mechanics rather than fully developed features. Players looking for a more expansive or complex simulation may find the experience somewhat limited, though it clearly hints at greater depth in the full version. Despite these constraints, Animal Shelter 2: Prologue succeeds in delivering a heartfelt and engaging experience that captures the essence of its concept. It offers a balance of light management, meaningful interaction, and emotional reward, all wrapped in a presentation that feels warm and accessible. While it may not provide long-term depth on its own, it leaves a strong impression and serves as a promising foundation for what’s to come. Rating: 8/10
