Like the rest said, it's like Risk of Rain, except way more difficult because it is impossible to kite. Aside from bosses, from what I can see, every enemy in the game can constantly close the gap to you with high speed or teleporting under your feet. Really great art style, music is great, and the whole game is genuinely impressive, especially for 5 dollars. That being said, if you're lookin' for a stress free fun game, this ain't it.
Bendiciones.
If you like risk of rain but hated all the climbing and jumping on to other platform, then look no further. This roguelite is quite fun and challenging. Not a lot of characters to unlock however (about 4 or 5) but it should keep you busy.
Fun and quick game. I enjoy this one because you can jump right into it and enjoy the content. It starts a little slow, but picks up very fast after the second stage. I would like to see a bit less randomization in the game, but i feel like thats the whole point. With that, hard is quite hard. With no ability to build into anything certain relying on chests to loot you up, or staying in stage too long and having all of the mutations it gets rough. Its manageable on Normal and easy. I havent completed a hard run yet, i play too slow i think. I enjoy this game enough to say i will come back and beat it on hard, and continue to play even after doing that. The achievement for the blood queen seems tedious... I have completed multiple runs after visiting her, i feel the achievement may be that you need to find her alter in the final stage, then beat it. Maybe im not understanding the wording.
Here is an edited Review now that I am 18 hours in: Pros: 1. Absolutely a fantastic game if you like Rogue Likes. Improves on the Original Risk of Rain concept with a faster start up and steam lined focus on combat and power growth. 2. For 5 bucks, absolutely one of the best purchases that is easy to pick up and put down. The average successful run for me so far is about 25 minutes. 3. Hard enough to keep you having to work towards your goals, including unlocking new items. I've beaten the game on hard already but it takes work and luck as usual. 4. Diverse classes that are each fun to play. Cons: 1. The ranged classes pale in comparison to the potential of the melee classes. Particularly the Azulmancer(Mage). This is literally the only issue I've had thus far. Yes, power ups can help as intended, other than the Bounty Hunter who actually has a good kit, the melee still outdo them in a way that is a little too apparent. Still, they are fun, and getting the right items can overcome some of this. The final boss is unforgiving for these classes though. Overall, it's a great game. I really hope the creators intend to provide it some updates, and even if not, I don't regret how much I've enjoyed this thus far. I still have some unlocks to get as far as items go, but it's been a good time getting there.
Really fun game has it's pros and cons. Pros: Variety between characters and there are a lot of fun items that can make you want to play more. Also when you finally get that luck to have 1-2 decent items and you can actually play the game it feels good. The maps have good looks, the music is just spot on, it is a really good game to relax with. Cons: But needs some balancing a run can be ruined by getting the vampire debuff like the first one and you can instantly reset as you won't kill anything after that, or minions can spawn in 5-10 groups in the boss fight leaving you no chance to do anything as they are constantly spawning, not even talking about that you have barely any damage meaning you won't really be able to kill most of the though enemies if you get them early on. The rate by the enemies get debuffs and how OP they are sometime is really a mess for this game. There was actually 2 runs where they got a buff sooner then I've found any item chests lol I can see where they wanted to aim with this game, but they missed some marks. In Risk of Rain, what this game clearly is inspired by, you can go on without good rolls for items, but in this game as the enemy just gets constant buffs, that does not work.
Pretty cool action packed sidescrolling roguelike! A tad on the hard side but very enjoyable. The game forces you to avoid staying on a level too long as enemies keep getting a lot stronger over time and you basically have to grab as many items as you can, kill the boss and then hurry to the next level. 6 total classes, 5 of those you have to unlock. A lot of items, some of which you have to unlock and then they start appearing in the game. Only made it to the end boss once so far in 10h and got rekt but it's fun to keep trying, which says a lot about a roguelike. Some of the common complaints you see in other reviews hold true. Game could use a short tutorial as I can see from other reviews that players either did not understand some of the mechanics or completely misunderstood how things work. The 'how to play' button that throws a giant wall of text at you on the main screen is very 1980s. Additionally, RNG can really mess up your run as you might not get items that your characters needs fast enough in order to make the run enjoyable or feasible. One idea devs could borrow from other games like Synthetik is to add another menu that would allow players to choose a few items that'd have a greater chance of showing up during the run. For example as a ranged character I'd want items giving damage at longer distance to spawn more frequently than items boosting damage in short distances. Anyhoo both those issues are easily fixable imho and doing so would easily turn this game from 3 stars to 4 stars. As it stands, pretty kewl roguelike and definitely worth $5 if you enjoy this short of thing; give it a shot!
Devs dont care or reply about issues, emailed them directly, refunded the game a few days later, dont give them your money. one option changed bricked the game regardless of normal steps like uninstalling and removing all local files, etc. devs never responded to their email,
Risk of rain but with update
Risk of Rain 1 with more of a fantasy feel. A good little game and the price is nice. As the description states, play, fight, create builds, die and play again.
