[h1]Where did I find this one? [i]Among the Dead[/i].[/h1]
So, it's autumn, the time of the ooky and the spooky. So, we have your basic zombie apocalypse media trying to work its way into our lives. But the style seems similar...it's that program that was used to make [i]One Manga Day[/i] so...we'll see.
The plot is as you'd expect, you're a nobody before the zombie outbreak, but when it came, your life changed for better and for worse. The narrative is finely written, but with nothing phenomenal. Your character is understandably paranoid as he's trying to survive....then a girl comes into the picture and your character gets soft. In all honesty, the writing is the developer's strongest point, but suffers most from the graphic and visual novel programs used.
Graphic-wise, the characters were made with that one software that made the awful [i]One Manga Day[/i] and the visual novel aspect was created using [i]TyranoBuilder Visual Novel Studio[/i]. That said, it's decently assembled, but not something of great quality. In summation, this game can best be described as "average". It's quite basic, really.
My biggest concerns involve all the wait times (some exceedingly longer than others), the fact that only one save file works while the rest are just completely broken, and various typos. These issues make the game a pretty poor experience, despite the decent novel. But the biggest reason why I grew to dislike this game is the "fight" sequence...where you're just mashing a button at no consequence for failing to do so....there's even a bug where you can be stuck in the sequence of having to click the "kick" button for an apparent eternity (as in 5 minutes later, you're stuck in the sequence).
So, do I recommend [i]Among the Dead[/i]? If it was more well-polished, perhaps. The story is decent, but with all the flaws, I cannot honestly recommend this product, especially at the asking price ($5). At a discount within the $1 range, I'd say it's probably worth it, but that's a bit of a stretch. Play only if you got this game from a bundle/giveaway or at a discount. Game is only 1 hour long, a pinch longer to get all achievements.
4/10 A basic zombie apocalypse novel with too many factors to be ranked as an enjoyable experience.
