A Flawed Masterpiece
You know there are always the so-called "fans"—those who use double standards, those who praise work when it's up their alley, but when it's something that might just have a different setting or theme that they dislike, then they can't appreciate the work anymore, then it's all suddenly crap. A Machine for Pigs isn't a bad game at all. It is very faithful to the franchise in everything from art direction and pacing to overall ambience, sound, and storytelling. It's easy to see that they are closely related not only in tech but that they take place in the same universe thanks to the design and art direction being so on point, which is very important if that's what you're going for. A Machine for Pigs still does its own thing on top of that with new locations and a new story, so I don't really get where the outcries come from, but it certainly couldn't be from mature fans that meet the game on its own terms and wish well upon the franchise as a whole. Is it true it doesn't have the management of tinderboxes in its gameplay loop, or a lamp running out of oil? Sure, but it doesn't take away from the experience that much either. You can still easily immerse yourself in its own story and its own setting, and more easily pay attention to just the world around you. And speaking of the world, most of it is excellent level design with some really beautiful and ambient locations, definitely up there with Frictional Games in both quality and ambience. However performance does seem to suffer, it doesn't run nearly as smooth as TDD, especially when doing a lot of dizzy-effects & sounds. As for sound design, it's fantastic. The only thing I could really feel might be a tad off is the audio mix at times, but overall it does a great job of immersing you in the world and its scares. If you can look past the surface-level gameplay changes and meet the game on its own terms, you will find a dark, beautifully crafted psychological horror experience. Highly recommended for fans who care about story and atmosphere over rigid mechanics.

Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs — атмосферний психологічний горор із похмурою історією та сильним сюжетом.
NO recomendado
Gameplay wise this game was kind of boring, all of the threats could just be ran right past and there was no need for stealth like there was in The Dark Descent. The story was pretty interesting though, I thought it was pretty cool and it compelled me enough to make me want to play more despite not liking the gameplay. The length of this game is also an issue for me, despite having 4.5 hours not all of that was spent playing the game itself, I did end up leaving it open for a bit, I'd guess this game took me closer to 3.5 hours, which I find to be extremely short considering the length of the last game. Overall, I think it has a good story, I don't think it's a must-play, but it isn't terrible either. If you get it, get it on sale.
