From the creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Dear Esther comes a new first-person horrorgame that will drag you to the depths of greed, power and madness. It will bury its snout into your ribs and it will eat your heart.

writing is much worse than TDD and the game has a lot of bugs and crashes

The general themes were cool, the environments were great, alot of the ideas around evil and the human condition were interesting but it's a slog to play through. A Walking simulator with half the game having no real threat, and when one is introduced it's not very threatening. Multiple crashes, and judging from other reviews, im not alone in that. The game is capped at 60 but has frequent performance issues dipping below that, despite it's little graphical requirements and its age. Not unplayable but by no measures is this a smooth experience. I don't care at all for the children that my character cares about so deeply. The game never really attempts to get me to know them or understand what they were like, just two generic stand in's completely indistinguishable from one another to be killed in a plot twist you can see from a mile away. The constant repetitous voice lines of them saying "Daddy this way!" are not creepy or endearing or.... anything really? just boring and gets so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tiring in the final act of the game. Best part and element was the partnership between the two who built the machine, the metaphors and lingering utter hatred at the world being confronted in such a twisted and disgusting way. Rarely art is made with no happy ending and rarely art is made like a machine for pigs. it is an original story and one i am glad i played through although dissapointed in execution. 4/10.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,419 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Doesn't have the mechanical freedom of the original, but it kept my ADHD ass engaged and excited until it was complete; it's a solid choice for a basic, linear horror game
People who dismiss this game as a “walking simulator” should revisit it and pay closer attention to the story. A Machine for Pigs is one of the best artistic metaphors for the idea that no eldritch horror we invent can ever be more terrifying than the horrors created by humanity itself.
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs – A Poetic Nightmare Score: 8/10 If The Dark Descent was a haunted house that wanted to give you a heart attack, A Machine for Pigs is a disturbing novel that wants to rot your soul. It is one of the most well-written, atmospheric, and audibly terrifying games ever made. The story of Oswald Mandus and his industrial slaughterhouse is a masterpiece of "cosmic horror," tackling themes of guilt, the 20th century, and what it means to be human in an age of machines. The "Art" of Horror The Atmosphere: The setting—a steampunk Victorian London on New Year's Eve 1899—is incredible. The sound of the massive machine thrumming beneath your feet, the steam hissing from pipes, and the distant squeals create a constant sense of dread. The Writing: This game has some of the best prose in gaming history. The monologue at the end is legendary. It doesn't rely on jump scares; it scares you with concepts. It makes you afraid of what the main character has done, rather than just what is hiding in the dark. The Soundtrack: The score by Jessica Curry is hauntingly beautiful. The mix of industrial grinding noises and tragic cello music perfectly captures the sadness and horror of the story. The Flaws: It Forgot to be a "Game" However, you have to accept that this is barely a survival horror game in the traditional sense. Mechanically Hollow: If you loved managing your tinderboxes, oil, and sanity in the first game, you will be disappointed. They removed everything. You have an infinite lantern, no inventory, and no sanity meter. You basically just walk forward and open doors. The "Walking Simulator" Syndrome: The game is extremely linear. There is almost no exploration and very few puzzles. You are essentially walking through a ghost train ride. Not "Scary" Enough: The enemies (the Pigmen) are terrifying in concept, but easy to avoid. The AI is simple, and because the levels are so open, you rarely feel the claustrophobic panic of the first game. Verdict A Machine for Pigs is a narrative masterpiece trapped in a simplified game. If you go in expecting a hardcore survival challenge, you will hate it. But if you treat it like an interactive horror story—a dark, industrial tragedy about a man and his machine—it is an unforgettable experience. Status: A disturbing classic (just don't expect to fight for your life). 🐷⚙️
