Ambition: A Minuet in Power

One of the few games I've 100%ed. Love the historical aspect and being able to pursue 2-3 love interests in a single run. The gameplay mechanics are nice and simple, but you can do 3+ runs and still find new stuff! Only problem I had was the accept invite button for lovers not working half the time starting in chapter 2...which was rough. Overall nice game to spend some time on, but would definitely wait until it's on sale (bought 75% off).

This game is a treasure. I backed it, many years ago and have enjoyed playing it since it released. It's brimming with romantic tension and intrigue that is all too rare in cozy games. It is difficult, but I think that really builds the sense of accomplishment when you get a good ending and manage to escape your fate. 9.5/10

A beautiful and convincing choice driven visual novel set in Paris during the time of the French revolution. The gameplay and narrative offer a blend of intrigue, strategy and social elements. From the start to the end this visual novel offers an intriguing storyline set in the time of the french revolution. You are Yvette Decaux and must navigate social events, such as high class parties and outings with certain characters. Social maneuvering is central to this visual novel, with gossip and rumors playing a significant part in the story, allowing you to shift politics to influence either side; the Crown or the Revolution. This allows you to change the outcome of the story. Choices matter and as you navigate the storyline you will find yourself making dire decisions that will influence the future of the main romanceable characters in the story. I wish romance routes were a bit more in depth, I was a bit disappointed with the rendezvous feature as it is sometimes recycled especially towards the end. Otherwise the gameplay loop and strategy makes up for it and I appreciate that every character has a very distinct vibe and has their own soundtrack. The atmosphere is convincing and beautifully crafted. If you like period dramas, or the aesthetics and visuals of the Ancien Regime, you will absolutely love this game. I was in awe with the soundtrack at all times, it's exquisite and truly sets the atmosphere. Drawings are nice and detailed and feel picturesque. Yvette is easy to like as a protagonist, she is witty but also quite poised and very feminine. Appreciating the protagonist and relating to her is made easier with the different options in your dialogue that allow you to characterize yourself through the character in the way you prefer. Do note some dialogue options will benefit your story and others not so much. All in all I strongly reccommend Ambition: A minuet in power. I'm extremely pleased to have played this game and I look forward to replaying it to get different outcomes and experience more.

I had this game on my wishlist for a while, and I have to say it lives up to the hype. This is a visual novel that also has a little strategy and time management. Not only do you have to decide based on whether you want to please your love interest, you have to pick the right answer to survive while managing your money and reputation. (Save scumming is a must). There are timed events, and you have to manage your schedule based on making a living and finishing the quest by the deadline. The story is smart, and surprisingly sexy for an otome game. The main character is entertaining and you enjoy her snappy comebacks and internal monologues. If you like the time period and films like Dangerous Liasons, this might be the game for you. As for the love interests, some are more fleshed out than others but they all have compelling storylines. So far, I've replayed this game twice, and I enjoyed it immensely, though I'm not sure if I will play all the love interests. There are many types of love interests, and WLW options for the female protagonist that also reflect the time period. The soundtrack is amazing too, I have listened to it on Youtube on my free time. The only drawback I could complain about is the art, since there are reused assets for the outfits with completely random stats for the same outfit, and some of the expressions in the cartoon style can be a bit, well, ugly. But this is a small studio and I appreciate continuing 2D art in video games. Overall, this is a underrated classic and I'd reccomend it.

A fun little game, especially for French history enthusiasts. Unfortunately, it lacks a bit of polish, which overall did not detract from my enjoyment of the game, but definitely posed a minor nuisance. For instance, there were a few bugs that prevented progression, requiring me to reload a previous save. I would recommend saving often. The dialogue at parties and rendezvous can get a little repetitive. Nevertheless, it's an enjoyable visual novel with a bit of strategy, intriguing characters, and fun mechanics.

Was habe ich bezahlt/was ist es mir wert? Ich habe das Spiel im Sale für etwas mehr als 6 Euro gekauft und würde es im Sale wieder kaufen, für den Vollpreis von 20 Euro gibt es zu viele Bugs und es ist auch bei mehreren Durchgängen zu kurz. Wie ist die Spieldauer? ca. 3-4 h für den ersten Durchgang dann vllt. 2-3h für jeden weiteren. Worum geht es? Wir sind Yvette, auf der Suche nach unserem Verlobten Armand im vorrevolutionären Paris. Unsere Entscheidungen darüber wie wir mit sensiblen Informationen (Gerüchten) vorgehen und wie wir unsere Zeit verbringen, kann über Sieg oder Niederlage der Krone oder der Revolutionäre entscheiden. Daneben gibt es noch 2-3 kleinere, persönliche Intrigen und Romanzen, welche an je eine Fraktion gebunden sind. Leider hängen auch spezifische Enden tw. damit zusammen für wen man sich dann entscheidet. Auch der Zufall spielt leider eine große Rolle....welche Einladungen man von wem erhält bestimmen oft auch mit wem man anbandeln kann oder welche Fraktionen man beeinflussen kann. Customization gibt es auch nicht, man wählt die Kleider am besten passend zum Anlass (so viele Modelle gibt es nicht...vllt. 6-7 Outfits in meist 2 Farbvarianten). Auch erscheint es mir seltsam, dass die Robe de francaise (mit Schulterschleppe/Falte) Boni für die Revolutionäre gibt, wo es sich doch um eine Kleiderform handelt, deren Beliebtheit rapide mit der Revolution sank. Wo gibt es Probleme/Was hätte man besser machen können? Nur etwas ärgerlich: Die Musik ist zwar passend, jedoch viel zu laut in der Grundeinstellung. Leider muss ich jedes Mal beim Start die gewünschte Auflösung noch einmal einstellen. Eine persönliche Note bei der Charaktererstellung wäre nett gewesen. Schon nervig: Manchmal tritt ein Bug auf, bei dem man Rendezvous weder ablehnen noch bestätigen kann, es muss erst neu geladen werden. Das Spiel ist tw. derart Zufallsbasiert dass sich bei einem spezifischen Ziel für en Durchgang speichern und laden lohnt/obligatorisch ist. Was hätte besser sein können: Ich hätte mir eine erweiterte freundschaftliche Beziehung zu unserer Zofe gewünscht, Raum dafür wäre da gewesen. Viele sehr wichtige Ereignisse im Spiel müssen am besten schon im April abgeschlossen werden. Auch die Love Interest lässt sich tw. nur noch schwer ändern. Einige Enden stimmen nicht mit dem überein was man gespielt hat. Beispiel: SPOILER (Ich habe in einem Durchgang Elizabeth geromanced, sie Armand zugunsten verraten und habe trotzdem ein Ende bekommen, dass besagte, dass ich mit ihr ein happily ever after bekomme, aber auch mit Armand aus Paris flüchte?) SPOILER ENDE. Tw. hatte ich in den späteren Monaten vieeeel Leerlauf bis zum Ende im August, gerade hier wäre es gut, hätte man noch Möglichkeiten eingebaut sich für jmd. anderen zu entscheiden oder schlicht mehr Events auf der Karte. Insgesamt kein schlechtes Erlebnis, die Charaktere sind nichts neues, aber ganz solide geschrieben. Im Sale jederzeit, zum Vollpreis hätte ich mich geärgert und es aufgrund der geringen Spielzeit auch kaum ausprobiert. Auch hätte man hier und da noch einige ernsthafte historische Informationen/Wissen einstreuen können, gerade die Geschichte um Armand hat so keinen historischen Hintergrund. 7/10, allerdings auch nur weil hier einige meiner persönlichen Vorlieben getroffen wurden. (Entscheidungsmöglichkeiten, Loveinterests, historisches Setting). Objektiv eher ein 6/10 Spiel, also eben etwas für Leute, die mit dem Gesamtkonzept von Anfang an liebäugeln.
