Amberial Dreams was an unexpected find for me. December 28th, 2023 (I think). I found a note saved on my phone from 7 years ago (The notes were automatically transfered between each new phone i got over the years). It simply read "Amberial on sploder". Sploder was a game-making website, dead ever since flash went out. Apparently i had the idea to try to remake the original amberial game using sploder's physics game creator, and had left a note for myself. Sploder was long-dead, so no chance of that now. ... But this note made me want to replay the old amberial games. So i opened up the Flashpoint archive, found the games, and got playing. I had actually found all the games on the archive about 2 years back and played them for a bit, but had never really bothered to replay them until now. I noticed some of the metadata for the games was wrong (the listed creators, release dates, etc), and decided i had to make it right. In doing so, i looked up several things about the game to confirm information... And found Amberial Dreams on steam. I was shocked. A MODERN AMBERIAL GAME? RELEASED A MERE FEW WEEKS AGO? I had thought this series was long dead. But no, it's apparently still alive and well. Still niche and small, but alive nonetheless. So I bought it. And I played it. And I loved it. I don't even care about the plot at all. I just think the game is beautiful. Basically a 4 button game, and only 2 for actually controlling the ball. I haven't gotten to do all that much at the time of writing this as I've been busy with other things, but I can safely say this game really.... I dont have a way to finish this sentence. The game is good. That's pretty much it. I'll admit, it doesn't quite hold the charm of the old games. Something about the simplistic backgrounds and art and sounds of the original game. (I actually only ever played the very first game as a kid, all the other ones i played more recently.) Due to the scope of Amberial Dreams, that charm is lost. ... But it's replaced with something far greater than any of those games. A in-depth level editor, beautiful backgrounds, music, and overall visuals, a plethora of new mechanics, and even a true story mode. I'm not good at explaining why this is a good game. it just is. It's Amberial, but modern. It's Amberial, but new. It's Amberial, but complete. ... Maybe I'll try remaking the levels from the original game in the level editor. I won't really be able to upload them since that would require making an account on mod.io. ... That's my only complaint, really. That in order to upload them properly, i need a mod.io account. I understand why this is the case. It's far easier to host levels there than on a seperate server. But it still kinda sucks given that i like keeping my digital footprint to a minimum and hate making accounts i'm unlikely to ever directly interact with. Oh well, i can always just share the levels on the discord. ... ... I dunno how to end this review lol. It's a good game. What it has lost in charm it MORE than makes up for in the sheer amount of improvements and upgrades from the previous games. Though i'm not sure i could truly "recommend it". At the end of the day, this game is very niche. It's a very niche gameplay style, with niche appeal for a niche group of people. It's fantastic for what it is, but not something i'd really be able to promote to my friends with a "hey you should get this game it's so good", due simply to how niche it all is. I still have to select "would recommend" on this review as there's no "neutral" option on steam for some reason... Still though, great game, very much love it, happy to have discovered it by chance.
Amberial Dreams is a surprisingly deep physics-based platformer that completely won me over despite my initial skepticism about the no-jump mechanic — once it clicks, navigating levels by building momentum and using the environment feels incredibly satisfying and unique. The controls and physics are polished to a fine shine, and the three-medal system (Sun, Moon, Wing) gives each level real replay value whether you're a casual player or a speedrunner chasing tight par times. It's a genuine love letter to the old Flash games, and having the original Amberial titles included as bonus content is a fantastic touch for longtime fans. The level editor is a cherry on top, with an active community already creating clever stages worth exploring. For the asking price, the amount of content here is generous and the core gameplay loop is just plain fun — easy recommendation.
Bit of a mixed bag. The game has a novel no-jump physics platforming mechanic that is interesting most of the time. The physics are a big wonky and unrefined. Some of the bounces don't make sense or aren't as big as they should be and the angle of bounces don't always make sense. Also the ball control is ok but it takes too long to build up inertia and once you have it it isn't easy to stop or change directions, so its too momentum based. This and the fact that many levels are instant death spots are areas where you fall and can't get up, leads to a ton of trial and error. Too many levels don't have checkpoints and the ones that do don't have enough at times. This becomes worse in later levels asking you to pixel perfect bounce with the finncky system while timing everything perfect and dodging objects 10x in a row without checkpoints. It is nice they include the old flash games but holy crap they feel slippery and unrefined. Gave up on those. Also its helpful they add things like slowdown if you want it but the button has to be "up" and it won't let you change on controller. This may be the dumbest decision in a game every especially because you don't have any abilities, combat or jump, meaning every other button is open. Forcing it on directional character control movements leads to unwanted deaths from switching back and forth without wanting to. No clue why there was a story as that was unnecessary, and it was annoying that theres 3 types of collectibles and the most important one doesn't unlock all the levels. But its fun at times and if you like marbels or puzzle platformers based on physics you may enjoy it a bit. It's no Nightsky though. 7.5/10
This game is fun 8/10
Amberial Dreams

Time Played:
30-ish minutes before giving up to idle for cards.
Last Played:
13th of December, 2025

While I remember disliking the demo to this, I then needed to get it for a Fanatical Bundle to give a discount, something that got me a bit excited on seeing it has Christmassy levels in the community contributions. Unfortunately, on just playing the tutorial, I was reminded of why I de-wishlisted it at first...
Yay:
+ Very favoured art. + Atmospheric + Colourful + A level editor is included.
Meh:
~ Nothing to report.
Nay:
- Character art did not fit the rest of the aesthetic, I feel. - The character handling is some of the absolute least-favourable I've ever encountered. You bounce at the slightest incline, yet are way too heavy, sideways momentum is way too large, and lastly, no jump button is present.. Merely playing the tutorial is enough to signal how completely unwieldy your avatar is, and the fact something this “alpha build” feeling was kept in the final game outright baffles me. - No brake exists, either, and you need to be dead-on-the-centre to use the ascending pillars, and other things. - In the one Christmas level I tried to play (The Last Gift), I could not even consistently make it atop the first section past a slanted platform. - With this completely-unrefined movement system, they then ask you to beat levels in under a certain amount of time, demanding precision that is not even slightly given/seemingly possible. - While you thankfully only need a number of the total 100 Moons (Found out-of-the-way in levels), Suns (awarded for clearing a level), and Wings (Beating a level under par time.) in a stage, level 2 already saw me needing to play it over 10 times, while feeling like I was fighting to control as much as I was the timer, to get the par. This was “Gentle” difficulty one too. - Playing up to the end of the “Save the Princess” level, getting literally every Moon, Sun, and Wing has only showed more issues, as one of the levels saw multiple instances of the crystal-sounding-yet-bouncier-than-rubber orb you play as bouncing clean over a portal key on more than one occasion, as well as the moon on “Crepuscular Connection” being beyond fiddly to try and grab. - “Save the Princess", the last level I tried to play/get all 3 items in, also had one of the lasers that boost you upward out-of-alignment on the first set, which only added to the “thrown together haphazardly” feel of everything but the art.

Verdict:
The fact something this perceptibly-broken, this soon into trying to play it, got to this stage without any fixes being applied is absolutely astonishing in the worst way to me, This is only compounded by the fact they then ask you to control this derailed-train-on-bouncy-ice sphere to beat a level under par a total of 80 times is something I'm wondering is even possible by non-computers. Thus, when coupled with the lack of a much-needed jump ability, this strikes me as something done as a result of the fact nobody had in the past, without stopping once to question why this was the case. If you've not gathered by now, I absolutely do not recommend anyone short of the most masochistic even attempt to try this one as a casual player, much less compeletionists.
Placed in:
6: Traumatically-Toxic.
cn need.
