I love the FF vibes but this game definitely has its own identity. Love the Feel for each character, story and combat wise. Battles do require you to think and some cannot be rushed, especially the Boss Fights which is a plus. Overall this game does feed you Nostalgia craving with Fresh ideas!! Not a bad game and definitely Recommened
Its a fun and gentle game that i enjoy playing for a couple of hours a night. Not for thrill seekers. Great for kids and adults.
After my first play-through ending in just under 17 hours with 18 hours total for the game one word to describe it. WOW! Story: The story seemed very sudden at first but it was expected since you are collecting yourself finding your friends steadily. Learning their style and what they should be used for as you get some time to learn each character. The diversity in the characters is your standard, healer, mage, tank, dps, and general purpose-ish. I expected more colorful dialogue from such colorful characters. After boss fights a few times I would go to the hub and see for any dialogue but was met with the exact same script each time. Some more development to care for them would be nice. A certain character that essentially swaps sides the tiny bit of dialogue we get with them was just enough for me to like the but it was too late. However the characters feelings for that double agent matched mine and i give them credit for that. The main driving plot point of the game seems a bit undermined when its done and then you have to go further beyond that. However the ending has an incredible twist that will most definitely have me going back for a second run at maybe a different outcome ;). All in all the ending plot points really drove home with the story and am definitely intrigued at where a sequel would take place if it is based on one decision or another ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The map: I definitely see dark souls inspiration taken with the map and many of its secrets. From false walls to fake chests?.... The game has absolutely no problem rewarding you and punishing you for exploring. The lack of a map also makes me think of dark souls and having to rely on memory and the various shortcuts you unlock. With locked doors, doors that only open from one side and more. Another nice way to help that i didn't really feel was utilized until late game was the teleportation system. It was great toward the end when i was trying to figure out where i needed to go next and such but i feel one or two more in a couple of areas wouldn't have taken away too much from the need to travel and being able to see the world. As there were many parts where it felt a touch chore like to go through an area so over leveled the exp. was just a waste of time. However the overall map was beautiful, so many diverse landscapes with their own music schtick and bosses. Really made me want to explore the area as much as possible to find all the bosses secrets and so so so much more. The secrets within the maps were absolutely perfect and i would not change a single thing about them. They perfectly tune into our gamer instincts that we have developed over the years where "you just know" that something isn't right or the game wants me to go here so i'm going to go somewhere else. This instinct and just pure curiosity lead me even to a boss i think i was way under-leveled but ended up beating on my third attempt. Its this sort of thing that made the map a gorgeous landscape that must be seen, and appreciated. The Combat: Like how i said i hate(d) turn based fighting games but this game now has me interested in them. It was an amazing balance of simplicity and mystery. The mystery definitely derives from the dark souls inspiration i drew throughout the game. There were many times where i'm left guessing still the complexity of a mechanic after a boss fight. When some were easy to pick up and i easily countered. A you level up your team they each have such unique traits where not 1 is the same across all of them. Then they have two skill trees with a mechanic where you can quite easily reset the skill points or in this game skill books in the hub area. Personally i'm a little back and forth between loving it and being okay with it. I like the idea of being able to change your style maybe after the death of as boss fight attempt or maybe just mixing things up and diving straight for an ability you've had your eyes on it definitely adds layers to the game and can appreciate the thought. Especially since you're able to relive boss fights adding to the ability to expand your knowledge and go back to a boss you may have beaten but didn't quite understand why. Of course as you level you gain the abilities and you start to get cozy in certain ones and i have noticed in other games tend to just mash that same ability over and over again. While that can be done for a few here it wouldn't be practical. The abilities here you can do over and over again serve a larger purpose. While the heavier hitting ones and most others have cool downs that each i felt were appropriately spaced out. I believe this also helped keeping me from getting too comfortable in certain abilities where it would only make the combat grow stale and repetitive. The complexity of each area and its enemies and bosses helped aid in the constantly changing of tactics. In certain areas i completely ignored a few abilities simply because it would waste mp for using them when the enemies matched the type of attack. Speaking of mp... The three bars that are used are HP, obvious, MP also obvious and TP, which i've never heard of. TP is gained simply by attacking and using abilities. It can be gained faster or slower depending on your weapons armor passives and more. Most of these are abilities gained through leveling up or a unique attack that is tailored to each weapon, which i love, and play style. These add so many possibilities and attacks to try and keep you on your toes. Now of course there are a few kinda OP combos but i feel with the cool downs how they are keep them at bay and not allowing anything too ridiculous. Also with each character being so unique i like how not until later levels you got to see a few abilities that are slightly outside their normal niche making seem more powerful and those became quite helpful come later game Items/Armor/Weapons: Each weapon, armor piece, artifact, ring and resource is unique and are all masterfully crafted to help the player in times of need fun and their play style or build. As you discover secrets gaining powerful armor, weapons, rings and artifacts they instantly become available for purchase in the hub area. This is a great thing and a not so great thing. While on one hand i love how i am able to see the potential in an item for multiple party members i feel it takes away a little from my immersion and i feel a little disconnected to these items. When i read some of these descriptions, which btw READ THE DESCRIPTIONS, late game you may come to regret not doing that ;). But when i read some of them it helps me suspend my disbelief that all video games should, right? Make us want to be in the world and when i feel i have come across something unique and one of a kind only to see it in a stores stock? I see it as more of a tool rather than a bad a$$ weapon or armor piece. But they all can be upgraded. With permanent and non-permanent ways. Which i can more understand being able to repurchase the armors with some permanent upgrades but i don't see why that would have stopped a simple tiered armor set. This allows for further exploration into ones play style and build for a character. Which ill give you a hint, be careful with wild cards, your healer may end up with your second highest agility XD. The rings and artifacts are in fewer numbers and farther apart, they can definitely change a character for the better and highly recommend equipping them ASAP. They are very diverse allowing you to pick and choose to see what you like. The healing and technical items all i felt were well balanced and almost always needed. The prices i felt were a bit cheaper especially late game when you have a certain ring and you go in an area over-leveled. They offer a nice blend of in and outside of combat forcing you to make tough decisions. Conclusion: I will play more of the genre now and will forevermore compare them to Alone 9.50/10 p.s. the only other turn based i played was LOTR The Third Age on my GameCube ;)
EDIT review! I got a response and help with the puzzle. I wasn't expecting a response so I am super thankful because I was enjoying the game. Now if I can't figure it out after the help then i'm an idiot. I like the game. Cute characters, i enjoy turn based video games fighting but like that you can see who is next in line to attack which made me change some of my tactics that I typically do. i also like that you can see the enemy encounters so you can try to avoid them. i like the "freebie" healing stuff you find in the game on trees too. Unfortunately I cannot complete the game because of a puzzle in the desert. Perhaps I am an incapable of such things but that one baffles me and i can't continue on the game because of it. Because there isn't a community for the game I can't really look for help.
My playtime says 24 hours, but the reality is that, despite my best efforts, I've only played this game for 45 minutes or so. The first time I tried to load it up, I thought it crashed at start, but it actually ran undetected without an icon or any way to interact with it until I shut down my computer. The second time I tried, it ran, but then crashed and corrupted my game file when I tried to save the game. There may be a good game in here, but I have no way of knowing. I can't get to it behind the bugs. My curator page
A good story, interesting characters and of course a party that you can spoil with equipment and skills/level up, all that with nice graphics and there you go...an perfect RPG (for me!). Now this one has good graphics. But that's it. The characters are flat..even if you can chat with them...if you call 1 sentences chat. The story is meeh at best (you are stuck on unknow territory meet a stranger and of course jump to do her quest). But the biggest problem is your party. You see the enemies are tough....and you gain next to nothing from fighting them. The few treasure chests...nothing special. It is worse that you encounter enemies that whip your whole party early on without the possibility of farming. Oh, you can set the difficult of the enemies in the option menu....from default 0 up to 300% (so no easy way out). It gets better...there is no way to run from an fight and the (visible) monsters have homing missile feature and can run faster than you.
