Reviews
This games reviews are mostly I feel a bit misleading in that it isn't so much a Visual Novel as it is a dialogue heavy RPG, more in line as with one person said with that of the "Persona" franchise. Regardless, Alluna and Brie makes for a really interesting and engaging title with more than 20+ hours of gameplay and plenty more to explore thereafter. I highly recommend that if anyone is unsure on buying this or not, that they dive right in and get this game, its absolutely a money for value title, but be aware that it certainly isn't the "traditional" Visual Novel you may be looking for.
As someone who has only begun re-exploring their love of video games, and especially visual novels (This being one of the now few I have played) it was really interesting to see a VN that isn't a glorified e-book. Alluna and Brie combines different concepts to bring you a really fun and engaging game in which I found myself enthralled in. With constant twists and turns and some really unique level design, this game is certainly one that will keep you on your toes. I'll keep this review short and avoid spoilers, but if you are new to VNs like me, and want something that deviates from the standard format that's thrown in your face all the time, this is the game for you.
Great game with a funny story line. Loved the Aussie references and humour, and was well amused by the voice overs in combat. "Back off mate!" I really like the art style of the characters as well, especially their little chibi combat versions, and actually enjoy the combat more than I was expecting. It adds an entertaining break from conversations. The controls were pretty easy to get used to even without mouse support If you enjoy games like persona you should definitely give this a try!
Recommended for any fans of Max's Big Bust (which, of course, is recommended for anyone with an ecchi sense of humor).
Like with Max's Big Bust, this game looks like a game that revolves around fan service like Dead or Alive on its surface. Keep in mind that it does have a ton of fan service in it, but it has more than that to it. It's a game created with a lot of love and heart that shows through in its endless charm. This charm comes through in the game's well written dialogue and legitimately funny jokes. This dialogue also improves the best part of this game, its characters. Every one of the characters in this game is likable and charming in their own way. From the ex-drug ring leader magical girl to the flamboyant dancing ghoul (who is unfortunately non-romanceable) all of the characters are wacky in a fun, engaging way. As for the rpg elements in the game, those are serviceable. The battle system was fun to experiment with and it never becomes boring or overly repetitive. It doesn't have a lot of depth, but that's fine because it primarily exists to add variety to the game, not to challenge you. The time management life sim elements are very reminiscent of the newer persona games. This means that the game asks you to balance how much time you spend in the dungeons, with the game's ten romance able characters, and with raising your stats. This element never becomes too overbearing or stressful because the game gives you plenty of time to complete each of these activities, so you never feel rushed. It's clear that the developers put the time management elements into the game to ensure that you don't spend so long on dungeons that you drag the games pacing down too much, and it accomplishes that perfectly. Additionally, there was one benefit of the game that surprised me immensely, it's world building. The game's writers clearly spent a great deal of time creating a fun, interesting world to learn about. The only downsides I found in the game were the occasional typos throughout it. Those were distracting, but not game breaking. They were also few and far between, so it was not that prominent of an issue. Overall, I would recommend this game to anyone that loves visual novels because this game knows what it is. Instead of shying away from those elements, it embraces them to create a fun, campy, and wacky experience filled with likable characters, a surprisingly solid world, and a fun rpg system. Also, this is the most Australian piece of media that I have ever consumed, and who doesn't want more Australia in their lives
Alluna and Brie is a game that takes several gaming concepts and mashes them together into one pretty cohesive whole. It's basically a turn-based RPG-light game with a lot of visual novel elements. It also combines time management themes with some mini-games. The "mermaid spikers" sport is mildly fun (not my cup of joe, but has the potential to be addictive), but the Pokemon Go-like mini-game I have yet to try out. It must seem that having so many different playstyles together in one game is a recipe for disaster, but it seems to work. As for the story, I'll freely admit that I'm a fan of Lach's games. It is a direct sequel to Max's Big Bust and has several call-backs to Gender Bender DNA Twister Extreme (both games I also highly recommend trying out). The story itself doesn't have much in the way of gender bending this time around as it follows two magical girls (one who can summon healing potion-like cheese sandwiches) and other magically gifted individuals (several of which have popped up in the previous title). They fight monster girls in an alternate dimension known only as the "Frakk", which is where the RPG elements come into play. The game is pretty long. As of writing this review I'm only about halfway through the game and have already clocked in about 27 hours. So expect to spend a long time both in the Frakk as well as the Australian city of "Axon City" and its surrounding areas.
Great game like the last one, to the point I'm afraid of finishing it too quickly. The game is quite different from Max's Big Bust in that it is not only a visual novel, but an RPG as well. It has a few bugs here and there but they're rather manageable.
Pros -Funny - interesting story -good characters -Don't have to play if you want to jump into Max's Big Bust 2 Cons -repetitive at times -Can't use a mouse -Didn't care for the RPG elements Thumbs up or down more between
OK... What do I need to say about this game for starters... The Gameplay: New Review now May 02, 2019 The game play plays just like how I played in the previous session but content wise everything plays just how I remember it. However, there is the Mermaid Spikers mini game I was not able to play, but that changed recently on my second play through of Alluna & Brie. And all an all, i find it very interesting and fun to play. Amazingly it reminds me of playing the NHL games when i used to play with my brother, its lots of fun passing back and forth the ball with some of the main characters as mermaids and actually plays like a fun little game from the usual games I play. Overall that mini game is very enjoyable so don't ever skip out on playing the tutorial of Mermaid spikers, oh and I love the banter between Brie and Alluna trying to decipher how a mermaids body works, it really makes you think in a fun way. Review back in April 11, 2019 very interesting and flows just like DNA GENDER BENDER and Max's Big Bust in the previous visual novels. Although you have more freedom to move in certain places later in the game in the first hour. When you first start the game your playing on what feels like a Game board with one space at a time. You may get lucky and not run into a monster, but you may go into a battle almost 2/3 of the time. It really feels exciting to miss a battle to get to the next space and gather an item that can help you fight the next monster that comes up. However the fighting can get really familiar and really boring at times. Most of the fun I found for myself was developing relationships and trying to make the main character meet people in the on going story. As for the mini game of mermaid spikers... well... I will get to that in a second... Story: Very linear story dealing with monster girls trying to take over the world for the most part. Magical girls come in and get thrown into the world an organization already has knowledge of and they help make the story move forward. As for their backstories it was pretty interesting to see how the main character got their powers, makes me wish and hope she gets stronger because of her random cheese sandwich powers everyone in the story calls lame, because those actually heal the other characters in the game. Yes your main character is a healer but you have the choice to not use her in battles with the monsters, but if I am with her for 99% of the game I want to have her in my party because i have that connection with her right now. Characters: Alluna and Brie have a very witty dialogue with themselves as well with the other characters from this game and past games. If you played the previous games the characters still feel like themselves like you played in the previous games, though their personalities are more defined and concrete. The dialogue does have some very naughty words so be prepared for the word ♥♥♥♥ and ♥♥♥♥ and sometimes calling those words holy as well. Music: Some music pieces are pretty catchy, but if its raining prepared to hear a whiny dog in the background... sometimes the music you just want to switch at times but it doesn't make me want to throw my computer out. Some jingles make me happy, some grate on my ears but its not that bad. Issues: Again the music is kinda meh, but the gameplay as in a visual novel is really enjoyable. The battle scenes well... they feel repetitive and I am truly sorry to say that. As soon as you spend close to three hours playing this game like a visual novel and a Board Game with a die that only reads one you start to feel it gets repetitive. Maybe if a actual die was cast it would be a little more fun to land on certain areas but it feels like going through a game where you go to the next circle to the next fight. Updated Review on May 02, 2019 The blue highlight on the menu buttons doesn't really help. Sometimes I get confused trying to decipher what attack or what label I am on. I tried to play mermaid strikers as practice and I clicked skip instead of playing the game. Before when I first played this game it was very hard to figure out how to pick a choice with the highlight blue being the go to for the selection. Im so used to letting the brighter color in this games case Pink be my selection picker, so dont be taken for a complete fool if you select some options that do not come with the arrow that will help you select your choice. And speaking of the Arrow... Saving: Saving in this game is very possible now, oh thank goodness I am able to find myself selecting the right decision. It really broke me when I couldn't go back and play where I left off in the game, and I felt uninspired to go back. However, that has now changed with the helpful tool of the Arrow. Oh my lord I had no idea how helpful such a simple thing could be in a game that would deter me from coming back to play a game I was interested in. I am very greatful that this new helpful tool was added. Thank you so much Lached up Games this really made my new play through all the more enjoyable and put me at ease to play your game more thoroughly. I was able to load my save up and enjoy more to my hearts content. Conclusion: Updated May 02, 2019 Overall I still cant rate this game as a whole because I am only caught up to where I left off back in April but I hope to give it a nice reaction when I've finished my first few play throughs . I Love Lached Up Games, with their visual novel and genre of gender changing worlds incorporated in them and being able to fix an issue that was addressed speaks in volumes for your helpful immediate action, and in my most humblest of experiences thank you. After what I have seen in this game you can easily spend close to 40 hours in this game with all the different stages that are available in dating someone, in the Alien world, as well as Alluna & Bries world too. So if your looking for a dating sim in a world where gender bending is a possibility with magic, monster girls, mermaids, cute ugly little mascot characters, succubi, and much much more you cant go wrong in playing this unique but fun world made of different colors of the rainbow. Highly reccomend this game for anyone who wants a different but fun world to play.
