I have honestly never felt more attached to NPC's like the ones in your squad and even knowing that you will lose the war ultimately and what the future holds for them. I am excited to see what this game has to offer and I hope this game has such well written characters and clearly written by a love of history this is a solid 10/10
I really like this game, but at this moment, I cannot recommend it with the state it is in. I personally like how the game handles the physical and mental needs of the soldiers, and I understand the limits of it being early access so I can overlook some of the more clunky features. However, I cannot overlook the fact that the gas attack battle scenario is completely broken. At a certain point in the battle, the game will just stop working. You can't move forward, you can't move backwards, and the battle's timer never ends, so you're essentially softlocked and can't progress. I've made multiple saves just to replay the battle and see if it was just a one off issue, but it has happened in all of the attempts I've made to complete the battle. I'd love to give this game a thumbs up, but with such a game-breaking bug, I can't recommend any buys it.
You could play this for hours and never get bored, I dont know how to explain it but everythings different in some battles i was even getting nervous trying to make decisions. Once you get to know and understand your team the more you'll like and respect them, If any of my soldiers ever get wounded i do what I can for them and if one of them dies its like you really lost someone you knew and the replacement soldier you get doesn't feel right in their spot, It really does effect you. I 100% suggest this game if you like managing a team and wanting action its an all in one fantasic game and its gonna get better since its in early access!
With God for Kaiser and the Vaterland!
while the current story is somewhat short, ending after the second session of leave in 1917, I enjoy it alot, I managed to get a very good group of soldiers, even if one of them was hated by all but one, the number of unique perks is alot more than expected, poacher, sniper, Drill Master, ect, and those are just the ones I could find, it runs very well, but I must admit that I at first pirated this game, but after a while, I ended up buying it
after playing for a couple of hours, i was pleased with this game. the controls in the trenches seem a bit clunky and are pretty rough around the edges but overall the game seems to have a lot of potential. many reviews talk about rough conditions later in the game, I've only played a few levels so I can't confirm or deny. given the setting of the game, i think it would be a disservice if the troops weren't overworked and tired while your commanders ask impossible things of you, but if you want something a bit more casual with less micro management this game probably isn't for you. all in all, I would recommend this game to anyone who is interested in the setting of the first world war. the game isn't particularly fancy or good looking, but it captures the atmosphere of a squad of men just trying to do their duties. it takes the war, which is often sensationalized, and humanizes it. let us not forget, millions of young men fought and died in this war, it was the climax of their lives! if you'd like to experience a small piece of what men on the ground might have actually dealt with, this game is for you. I wouldn't go into this game expecting anything too crazy or exciting, the majority of the game seems to be about managing your troops and their resources while occasionally being rotated to the front for a while. most of what you will be doing is reading journal entries, making decisions, or managing your troops personalities. in the trenches something exciting make happen, but even then it's more of the same with some added risk. I've heard it said that being a soldier is 90% boredom and hard work while only 10% is action
Realy good game with interesting storylines. Repetability of tasks/dialogues can be a little frustrating as well as the late introduction of the SMG during battles. Best aprt of the game is the upgrade of your soldier and the new possibilities when you get something new, pacing of tasks can seem unfair sometimes (might be crawling under tasks or doing nothing), but I guess its realistic. I would've like more maps for the battles.
It's 4am, so yeah its a good game. I think this is a really good implementation for a story based turn by turn game. Looking forward to everything they will add.
