Expanding from three to four players, AFE2 introduces deeper team-based mechanics that reward coordination and strategic class composition. New and improved classes each bring distinct playstyles and tactical abilities to the fight, making every squad combination feel different.
The iconic xenomorphs are more ferocious than ever before. AFE2's massive variety of new xenomorphs will force players to stay mobile, maintain situational awareness, and use every tool at their disposal. From stun batons for up close melee action in those most desperate moments, to pyro and electric ammo to whittle down the unrelenting xenomorph front before they overrun you and your squad, the battle can shift from calculated tension to desperate last stand in seconds.
Beyond expanded weapon and gear customization, AFE2 introduces the Specialist – a fully customizable class that lets players mix and match major and minor abilities from every available class. Build a loadout tailored to your exact playstyle and fill whatever role your squad needs.
AFE2 launches with multiple dedicated Horde maps that push squads to their limits. Battle through escalating waves of xenomorphs and other deadly enemies, earning increasingly valuable rewards as you survive deeper into the onslaught. This is where teamwork and skill are tested at their absolute peak.

I have to give this game a positive reveiw but only by the skin of its teeth. In camparison to the first game I would say it is a decent succesor but doesn't do anything groundbreakinly new. More weapons, an extra team member and a wider variety of enemies are about the only addition, as well as actually animated npc dialogue however their god awful corny dialogue and demeanor discredits that entirely. Gameplay wise, there are a lot of stutters and friendly and enemy ai seem to struggle with tasks and pathing even though they said they improved it from the previous game. I've also dropped out of a fair few games without any explainable reason. But that being said, I can't in good faith give a game an overwhelmingly negative review based on bugs that will probably be ironed out in the first few patches. What really pushes me to dislike this game is the price. With DLC, the previous game totaled a cost of around $55 Australian dollars. The base price for this game, without deluxe add ons or future dlc, being $80 AUD is absolutelty disgusting. Without any meaningful addition to the franchise or overall content of the series, I cannot see how they justify the price, especially seeing as how the first game wasn't a particuarly overwhelming success that would justify such a premium price. If you are a fan of the Alien franchise or enjoyed the first game, definitely give this a go, but absolutely wait for a steam sale and hope that servers aren't dead by then. Overall rating: 6.5/10 (Pre any bug fixes)

If you liked the first one you will like the second games gameplay loop. If wanting story or anything besides the gameplay loop of a progression based PvE squad shooter, you will not enjoy the game. I got 23 hrs playtime in the 3 days since it released because I took two days off... worth it.
This game needs work. Writing is sub par, leaning heavily on the Alien franchise catch phrases, repeating them so much you consider bailing in the middle of a mission. First three characters you meet are butch lesbian looking characters, like the writers didn't know how to create anything else. The game should have been first person. They put you in tight spots with 3 other idiots constantly walking in front of your crosshairs for no apparent reason other than their ADHD. There is some light. The meat and potatoes of the gameplay is fun, but rough.
If you told me this was a DLC expansion to the first game, which was already mediocre and kinda trash, I'd believe it. Slogged through the entire campaign and never once had a moment of "wow, I'm having so much fun". Found myself more irritated with the forced NPC dialog, forgettable combat barks, and unusual bugs including mission softlocks. Even worse, took me 20+ minutes to find a team (which was horribly underleveled, didn't finish the mission by the way) for the first map on intense (not the highest level difficulty, if you don't have the game. it's just above normal mode). The game already has a low playerbase and it's not even week two yet. Save your money, play a better coop game like Vermintide/Darktide/DRG/HellDivers 2.

Constant DC, Host crash, Map Resets to BEGINNING, Some weapons useless, Paid weapons behind DLC stronger than some base weapons. AI are completely useless will not shoot at targets near them, solo mode has nodes to increase there damage/hp etc means nothing if they do not shoot and constantly block you playing. Recoil on some guns to such a level where you are just constantly pulling down for hundreds of rounds to counter, i gave up and just use smart gun (auto aim) on all classes with damage modifier, who the hell wants to hold multiple mouse buttons while pulling down for 500 rounds as each one does 3/4 damage per shot. Hidden stat, that is not explained apart from in a tool tip menu over 4 pen prevents shots bouncing of SOME, that's right SOME have more than 4 resistance, so you need MORE pen than tooltip states. So either maximize the pen or just not use 60% of the weapons. ( Important on higher difficulties as there are more elites, less so on IGN or Standard skill levels ) I played the original, never felt this much grief while playing, spend most of my time inside the HUB shooting walls to try and make some guns playable, such as maxing recoil reduction just to reduce the amount of pulldown on most guns or simply give up and just install the auto-aim augment. Do not even get me started on friendly fire, people seem to miss the part where above standard it states "friendly fire enabled"
Had a great time from the get go playing this with my squad. Im not into conversing with the NPCs so much so they could have toned that down. But the actual game play is solid and fun. Great atmosphere and sound. Solid AI. Learnng curve is low. No major issues from me. Looking forward to playing through this. Solid price point as well.
Oh man.
This game should have been a DLC for AFTE 1, not a seperate game with a 80$ price tag.
This is the second day of Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 being released and I feel I have played enough to leave my overall quite positive and slightly long-winded review. It's not a perfect game but the minor amount of bugs and hiccups I encountered is more than made up for by the addicting and heart-pounding co-op experience. Heck I even had a lot of fun playing on my own with bots (though they are still pretty awful as teammates, just like in the first, however there are some combat cards you can use to improve them and it's fun to see how much you can do solo and climb up the difficulties). I quite enjoyed the first game in the series, putting in around 150-200 hours into that one. If you played and liked the first, you should really like this sequel as it beefs up everything and improves on the formula (more customization, more attachments, new classes, new enemies, bigger campaigns and maps, quality of life additions, etc). There are some familiar weapons here and loads of awesome new ones to grind out and level up. The classes feel even better and the way you outfit their kits is similar but improved upon and added to. For example the sidearm slot is now basically what was considered "light weapons" in the first game, meaning you can upgrade and outfit your sidearm and not be stuck with an awful peashooter when out of ammo (the sidearm is still infinite ammo). The addition of weapon trait and augmentation slots to adjust playstyle and provide further customization to the weapons is also quite nice. Not to mention there are a lot more settings available to adjust your gameplay and tweak everything to your liking (FOV, camera distances, enemy outlines, damage feedback, camera shake, button toggles, equipment functionality, etc). The first game only had 4 campaign chapters (with 3 missions each) on release and this game has 5 with an additional epic prologue (one of my favorite missions), so there is objectively more content here and I can't see how anyone could call this a "DLC of the first". On top of this, the missions feel a decent bit longer and the environments are larger and more open, not as linear as in the first game. You are rewarded for exploring too as you can find mini caches all over the place that provide equipment (of which there is wayyyy more variety of than in the first, including grenades and ammo), as well as the traditional large caches that award weapons, attachments, skins, decals, emotes, etc. The environments are absolutely gorgeous and mimic the Alien universe quite well, I had times where I would just stop and admire the scenery; Alien/Aliens fans should love what they see here. The music is once again top notch and in-line with the original movies. The story itself is nothing special but I am actually enjoying progressing through and experiencing it. The voice-acting is pretty decent in my opinion; the dialogue/writing isn't great but it has a self-aware cheesy factor much like Aliens and the first game in the series and it is somewhat fitting (nothing too cringe). I have definitely seen MUUUUCH worse voice-acting and dialogue so I am surprised by how much people are harping on this, it's really not THAT bad in my opinion and compares to the first. I believe you have to play through the campaign once before you unlock the horde mode (which is fine as I wanted to experience this anyhow, but I can see that being slightly annoying to those who wanted to jump into horde mode right away, they might change this in the future). As far as performance goes, I have had very few problems or annoyances in 1440p with completely maxed out settings (although DLSS was on with the quality setting); I did recently build this rig though - with a Ryzen 7 9800x3d and a GeForce RTX 5070 with 32gb of DDR5 RAM, so it's decently powerful but nothing insane. I have had zero crashes, however I did encounter a single freeze up the first day of playing that lasted a good 5 seconds but nothing like that ever since. Occasionally there will be a micro-stutter (and I do mean "micro," it's usually hard to even notice) when I enter new areas but it is far from game-breaking. I am generally pretty picky about lost frames, graphical hitches and stuttering, yet everything I encountered was very tolerable. I was playing with a friend of mine who was on a 7 year old rig that was only mid-range at the time and it doesn't even meet the minimum requirements but even he said mostly everything was tolerable in 1080p, with some stuttering at times, but still very playable. Once in a blue moon I would notice a bugged enemy that would get stuck on something, and at times the enemy AI would be a little wonky (and I already mentioned the allied bots are pretty garbage, but you can disable them if you want). There was nothing too egregious or annoying enough to take away from the experience in my opinion and I never had a single hard or soft lock that prevented the game from continuing. Overall I definitely recommend this game to those who enjoyed the first and want more of it or to anyone looking for an addicting co-op horde shooter to play with friends. The levels are bigger and better, the weapon customization is more in depth, there are more settings to adjust the gameplay experience, the classes are fun to level, and there are lots of new enemies to take down. The performance has been almost perfect on my end too with very little stuttering. A quality sequel and good overall horde-shooter with a few minor annoyances, I am excited to see how far my friend group can progress through the harder difficulties once we have leveled up our classes.
