I have found myself liking the game more and more. Thankfully, as it appears you can co-op the gam to 3 people, which is awesome. I have already co-oped 3 persons and it was an awesome experience... The levels knida get repetitive, but thankfully you get new guns, attachments, and other items to make you and your team into bad ass alien killers! Graphics: Well done and they are reminiscent of the movie Prometheus, which is fitting. I had to turned down some settings in the game as they down on my standard PC. Music and sound were bot good as it is eerie. The aliens sound excellent and from the movie. Revelation? I like ti a lot, I hope Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 comes out soon. I want to do more alien killing. Recommended!
Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a game I played twice, once on Steam and once on Microsofts free game delivery service if you know what you’re doing. Set in the 2202, 23 years after the events of Alien 3 (I think, I’m not, like, 100% on this so just pretend I know what I’m talking about). You play as a Colonial Marine, the ORIGINAL science fiction hard ass, Heinlein fans and Perry Rhodan Enjoyers don’t talk to me you’ve already beaten me up enough. Setting out in space to defend the United Americas from the aggressive alien lifeforms only known as the Xenomorph XX121. After a distress call forces your assault unit to reroute to LV-895, you and your team of two other friends or CPUs must do battle with an ever expanding Xenomorph threat while also uncovering the secrets the Weyland-Yutani officials on the planet are hiding. Meanwhile, good ol’ Wey-Yuut is less than happy to see you, and sends an army of combat synthetics to stop you from finding out the EVIL they were doing on LV-895. Its probably weaponizing Aliens. Its ALWAYS weaponizing aliens. If this was an AVP game they’d be trying it with Predators as well. C’mon guys, the synth market can’t be that bad. Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a cooperative third-person shooter based around you and your buddies picking a class, some weapons, and then shooting a lot of aliens. Each mission is split into three or four parts, with each part having an objective you have to complete before moving on to the next area. There’s very little downtime between fire fights and the relies a lot on you going through hallways and blasting the bugs or hunkering down in a location and then blasting the bugs. Lots of bug blasting, basically. Sometimes they mix things up and add Synthetics, which come in a few flavors from “Shooty robots” to “Hit you with a stick” robots. This is basically the result of A.I. getting tired of you using it to erotic roleplay over the past few years. The Xenomorphs also come in a few flavors, a good chunk of them coming from either other games or the comic books. The Warrior from Aliens is here, honestly I thought the drone from Alien and the Warrior was the same thing, but apparently I’m wrong. There’s also the spitter, which spits at you, ew. The burster, which explodes on you, also ew. And everyone’s favorite giant enemy that killed me a bunch in AVP2, the Praetorian, is also here. It’s probably been in earlier stuff, I just remember it from AVP2. So there’s a lot of flavors, not including the pathogens added in the DLC. So what do they give you to deal with these nasty critters? Well, guns, mostly. The fan favorites are all here, the pulse rifle, the smart gun, the shotgun even though the Ithaca wasn’t standard issue and Hicks just had that from his pappy. Other than that, there’s a bunch of other weapons like plasma guns and SMGs that I’m not sure were in any other media, I don’t recognize them at least. The more you level up and the more credits you get, the more stuff you can unlock for your guns, like different sights and weapon skins. Its not much to write home about but at least there’s something to work for other than class progression. They’re nice and punchy to use, shooting aliens never feels awful but its not blowing my socks off either. You can blow off heads or shred them but there isn’t really all that much going on other than wasting hundreds of the bugs in one go, which itself is pretty sick, but I guess I was hoping for more detailed damage models. Also, for some reason, video game devs are afraid of giving the pulse rifle a 99 round magazine right off the bat, so if you’re an Aliens fan then you’re going to have to work for it to get the correct ammo count. There are several classes to pick from, I played mostly demolisher and medic. Each class, of course, has different abilities and weapons, like how demolisher can bring the smart gun and medic can keep everyone fighting until his little healy tube stops healing. For some reason the class called “Gunner” doesn’t use a smartgun. I can’t say anything more about it, since my friends and I just kind of picked one class and stuck with it for the game. But at the very least you have the options. I liked the game, it just wasn’t what I was hoping for. A Left 4 Dead style Aliens game isn’t a bad idea, but I was always more of a fan of the exploring and survival horror aspects of the aliens universe. Something about exploring a space station while pointing a pulse rifle at vents and dark corners really tickles that part of my brain that still produces dopamine. But they have a game like that now called The Dark Descent, but that’s a top down quasi-strategy game and I can’t play it with my friends. Considering the fad of friend games that have been coming out over the last few years, I wouldn’t mind a Lethal Company esque game where you and your friends play as Colonial marines and either need to deal with an alien infestation or retrieve something for Colonial command or WY. But this is fun for what it is, just not something I’ll probably come back to over and over. While writing this review, the game is 7.79 CAD or 5.47 USD on sale, which is a great price for a game like this. There’s also a sequel in the works, which I hope has more going on for it than this game does. I would like more games set in the Alien universe, especially games involving the Colonial Marines, who are probably my top 5 in science fiction military organizations. I would ESPECIALLY like more Colonial Marines games set in the Alien Vs Predator universe, but that’s probably not happening anytime soon. Aliens: Fireteam Elite gets 6 blown up bugs out of 10. They’re called “Bugs” because the USCM calls all non-sapient aliens as bugs, hence why they said “Not another Bug Hunt” in Aliens. Bet you didn’t know that. That's an excellent game! As fan of the franchise, Aliens Fireteam Elite respects and adds perfectly to the lor of the Alien's universe, while it contains a fun gameplay, good graphics, and a nice story. I loved that they added the engineers.
Why did I only discover this game now? Very much captures the feeling of Aliens (1986). Not a ton of maps, but (I hope) quite a lot of replayability with the different classes and difficulty levels as I'm only 3.5 hours in at this point.
Note: This review is for someone just entering the game for the first time. At its most ideal, this is a fun challenging experience. Due to the dwindling and unreliable player base… you’ll barely get that experience and the AI companions are NOT a suitable replacement. The classes, customizable skills, and weapons create a fun replayable experience in the Aliens universe. Enemy variety, modifiers, and various challenge increase replayability greatly. However, due to the reliance on co-op and multiplayer it is a much hindered experience as time goes on. These days when you get a lobby, IF you get a lobby, you’ll more than likely end up with over leveled players who will either leave right away because your setup, challenge level, or otherwise is not to their preference OR they will steamroll the entire level while you wonder if you are able to contribute anything at all. If you are lucky enough to pair with those at your level and experience, you still have to worry about potential ping issues as well as variable levels of co-operation to get through the much preferred hard mode. Why am I choosing hard mode over normal? Well for 90% of the campaign, the game is just a cake walk. Hard mode however provides a fun challenging experience, but DEMANDS co operation and competency. You may then decide instead of rolling the dice on potential player lobbies, you’ll just go with AI teammates. You’ll be in for a rude awakening as not only can the teammates classes NOT be changed (they default to Gunner) but they absolutely INSIST on being the greatest hindrance. When they are not shooting you in the back they are purposely jumping and staying in your line of sight as you shoot ahead. They have no tactical abilities whatsoever and will often stand in the open and prioritize pickups over their own safety… often failing at both. It honestly would be better to just not have the AI option at all to at least wash away the illusion of them actually being viable. I’d love to recommend this game and have had great moments with other players… but it’s too much of a gamble to give a genuine recommendation. Fingers crossed the sequel can at least provide genuine competent AI teammate options to increase the longevity of the game.
Overall good game. Character creations need better facial features and editing functions. Character progression takes too long to level up tho. Planetary bodies & outer-space elements look lifeless because everything is fixed (not moving or rotating) when viewed from the spaceship windows. Add movements to give the life. 7/10. 7.5/10

That moment when the story is actually interesting in a horde shooter. Low-key, I think this is what Prometheus should have been, lore-wise.
