The screenshots look very promising. But since there is always a fatal error when pushing a button on my Oculus Touch Controllers I dont't think I will be playing it anytime soon if at all. I found some comments from the developers that they basically don't give a sh*t implementing the controllers. So if you have the Oculus Rift DO NOT BUY!
Store page outright lies about supporting oculus and motion controllers. Pressing any button on oculus Touch results in a crash. It's sad to see such misinformation.
Because of many negative reviews I was a bit on the verge when thinking about buying this game even though it was on sale. But gladly I did. I don't know about before but now with all the patches the game looks stunning in VR. Even though I played without motion controllers but on the gamepad since Rift version sadly doeasnt have support for Touch (it buggs out when you try to use it) the carefully designed world of AliceVR and vistas you witness are just astonishing! The game is slow and there's not much action but for people liking old school adventure games it's a must. You really have the feeling of being inside this world. Some things are not right like some objects are not to scale and Alice sometimes is higher than she should be (not when changing size) but you can adjust the hight by reseting headset position. One can really feel the artistic vision of people involved in development. The game i not very long but for VR it's not bad. There are many branching paths and hidden secrets so there is replayability and I surely will play this again to find all things. Among many disapointments when it comes to VR games this game was a gem which supprised me very positevly. For 10$ or less You may as well try it. You have nothing to loose and experience to gain but If you venture into the world of AliceVR be sure to have strong VR legs ;).
It definitely is not a triple A game, but while playing I had a few moments when I totally forgot about that. If you expect quick pace, tons of visual effects and explosions, don't buy it. This is basically a game focused around the story and nothing more. The pace is slow and steady, letting you peek into every corner and find hidden audiologs and cards, which is really nice. When it comes to the puzzles. I had a feeling that the game kept telling me "I'm not the puzzler". Those are very easy and you can do them almost without thinking, they are just something between the story and the walking, which is pretty nice. If you like the "walking simulators" and you are looking for some nice experience they you won't be disappointed. Also, sharks. I love them.
Unplayable. Took me three attempts to get the game to run, and once I was in, there was no way to reset the game space. I played for 20 minutes with my head brushing against the ceiling. I then could not progress because all the collission for the word was offset.
Experienced on the Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/22fl6rwizM4 This is a space-themed walking simulator that is strongly inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Beware: motion controllers will probably cause your game to crash on the Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality. I strongly advise using a gamepad. You do have full locomotion and smooth turning. The is a narrative-driven experience with light puzzles. There are some very weird, trippy scenes in this game. You will walk upside down, you will shrink in size, and you will have spinning rooms in all kind of different space scenes, both inside and outside. Unfortunately, the game is buggy. I experienced several crashes, not just from the motion controllers. Also, I experienced two game-breaking bugs were I was totally stuck. I couldn't figure out how to proceed and had to look up walkthroughs online. That's when I figured out my game was bugged. I was able to get around these issues by playing these portions in non-VR. So beware that you may not be able to complete the game in VR, you may need to go non-VR for certain bugged sections. The story is also a bit confusing. It has some nice parts, but doesn't seem to ever come together in a cohesive manner. It took me 4.5 hours to finish the game, but it honestly felt like 2 hours of that was just dealing with bugs. As such, I cannot recommend this game. Rate 3.5/10. It might have been a good game, if it wasn't such a buggy mess.
First off, I have not played this in VR mode, only non-VR. That said, I've really enjoyed it overall. It's not long. If you do just what the computer voice tells you, it's shorter, but if you tell the computer to FUDGE (or F---) herself and go exploring, it takes a little longer. I've played through twice, and am working on a 3rd time through so I can fill in my achievements. What I Like: -Sci-Fi and Surrealism meet in this walking sim with some fairly easy puzzles. There are't any "baddies" it's just you walking around with an annoying wanna-be "SIRI" or "CORTANA" nagging at you the whole time. I thought it was a wonderful mix. -Scenery: the world is quite beautiful...in a sci-fi, offworld, ghost-town kinda way. I often find myself just sitting and gazing at the city and landscapes...until wanna-be SIRI gets t'naggin'.... At least I can "MUTE" her ;) -Soundtrack: I really dig the soundtrack... psy-ambient synthwave electronica chillwave...buddy! What I didn't like: -sometimes it's pretty clear what to do, but other times it's not. There's not a lot of direction or hand-holding other than SIRI naggin' at ya about how you're wasting time an' she gonna report ya if ya don't get off'yer assetts and start earnin' yer keep. - the game has had a tendency to lock up at certain points if i don't hit a spot juuuuuust riiiiight.... I learned how to hit them after several crash & restarts. -The achievements don't always work. I've completed several achievements and it refuses to give them to me. I don't know if it's because I'm not doing VR, or.... maybe wanna-be SIRI thinks I was wasting too much Company time so she refuses to fork them wins over........ Overall, I find the game to be a kinda trippy no-brainer walk in the park....errr....planet... walk on the planet....
I bought this game because I wanted a good game to play on my Oculus. I look and see that Oculus is supported, touch countrolers are listed. Then I install the game and crank it up...... The second I touch a controller the game crashes. So I go looking to see what is up. I find in the forums that they don't support the Oculus controllers and seem to have ZERO INTREST in fixing that. So I now have a game I can't play. Then just to add some more insult to this, I bought the game over at humble store so I can't return it. So I come here to post a review and get told I have to play for 5 minutes before I can do that..... So I had to start the game up and careful not to touch a controller, let it run for 5 minutes and kill it so I can write this out telling other to avoid this giant turd.
A warning to all Quest 2 users.
(and probably others) Game is utterly broken. Any input will cause a fatal crash. Even the most perfunctory of glances will reveal this to be a massively reported issue. I really should have glanced before I bought this for 80 cents on Fanatical, because that was still way too expensive for this.
