The game could use a little polish on menu styles, sound mixing and small environment details but it's definitely got some charm. The tutorial is a bit long if you don't skip it - hey you can skip it though . It's EA so I'm not gonna get into all the things I don't like as they are pretty minor. The soundtrack is amazing. The musical themes are consistent especially for encounter areas and intrigue sections. The peaceful area music is nothing to go nuts for but it's tolerable and sets the tone for those areas without being intrusive or odd. Edit: The scenery is actually more detailed than anything in the Atelier series so I'm fine with it.
Enjoyable Game

A lot of good, fresh ideas in story. Unfortunately, combat interface is junky as hell with a lot of information missing. And there is way too much combat. I gave up when I realized that the game thought I will be level 12 when in actuality I was 9. The amount of grind required for it was way more than I wanted to invest. Padding with boring repetitive content just to lengthen a playtime is a bane of modern games, especially JRPGs.
30 hours to complete on easy mode, I wanted to focus more on the story. tdlr; neither terrible or great. It’s an alright RPG. I got it on sale, but felt it should have a steeper discount. I tried the demo first to see if I like it. The visuals alone… It is definitely not high budget, I’ll say that. But by the end of the media res and then the scene with the High Council, I’m like, okay, seems decent enough and it’s on sale. Why not buy it? What to say about this game… Some objects are just too large compared to the character models. Looks a bit ridiculous, like is this the world for giants? There’s a huge beds and a giant door in Atlas Court as an example. Either it’s time consuming to downsize these objects or just make the environment/world bigger to move around better? Story wise I felt
Gilbert
was unnecessary to the plot and doesn’t feel like he’s part of the team by the end. He could be entirely removed and you can write around anything related to him.
Silver Phoenix needs him to find his wife? Why don’t he invade the Magna Lumen strongholds like the one in Royne and interrogate them? Exposition of how the planet was like before? The sentinels or robot girl can explain.
For some reason I found this hilarious. In the library, page 4 of “The High Council” about the fourth squadron and what they do, “…their identities are unknown due to the nature of their work that usually involves sabotage, espionage, scouting for information, and cleaning the grounds …” Library text make it seems they do the dirty work for the high council. More accurate to describe them as an investigative team for international incidents. Identities unknown? Everybody knows them. Adriel in the beginning wants to keep his “true identity” and last name hidden. But by the time he wants to share, almost everyone in the party knows. It just treats it as a comedic scene.
Fiona wants revenge on Demon Blade for her disciple.
But once he’s caught, that motivation disappeared. No scene between the two or further explanation.
Actually, Fiona (formerly) being part of Equilibrium and disciple of the Great Sword, no consequences. I get it if the Fourth Squadron don’t mind, but the high council barely acknowledges her connection and Adriel only gave a bit of doubt in one scene. And the “truth time” scene felt less fleshed out and more ‘wagging the finger’ on Adriel.
A few things that I wished the game has. A glossary of places and people. Sometimes I’ll be like “who that again?” when a name was mentioned. The black teleportation teleports between save points instead of just up a hill or down the hall. That exp displayed what an individual character gets instead of a total. And there’s this one-time glitch that after beating the sentinel is Royne, it plays the scene with the first appearance of the Lion Blade. Huh? Reload my game save and fight the sentinel again, and played the correct scene. That was weird. Hard to decide between 'recommend' and 'not recommend.' I just feel all these little things adding up lessen my enjoyment. But looking at dev logs and updates, there is effort and care into creating this game. I chose “Recommend” because it is an okay game, excusing the tangent for the story. A few technical hiccups but overall: gameplay fine, story/plot serviceable, environment alright, music/soundtrack decent. Get it on sale with a large discount, it would be worth the money for the playtime. Found out that there would be a sequel. Probably it will tie up loose ends from this game. But do I want to explore more of this world? Probably will try the demo at least if it does come out.
nice game
Make Chinese and English speaker feel at home: Bilingual Curator
The game does support Keyboard and Mouse controls, but doesn't support one important thing - it doesn't let you rebind "Confirm" to anything but enter, while camera is still moved by your mouse. That leads to a weird setup where you do everything on keyboard with your left hand except confirming actions, which requires you to press Enter. Taking hand off of mouse so often was infuriating. That's irrelevant, because if it didn't have the two glaring flaws I'm going to list now, it would be an awesome game anyway. * First: It seems that in this game you're mostly just traversing gigantic planes filled in with generic filler enemies. It has hit me like a train with the first in-building area, which had me just sprint hundreds of meters skipping all enemies through the corridors of that place. I didn't notice it earlier, but that building seemed to be MUCH smaller from the outside than inside. * Second: The very first objective that isn't a cutscene that you're going to receive is "Kill 10x of that enemy" and "Collect 5x of that". This has killed the game for me. I have already felt artificially held hostage for playtime by the huge areas, and that mission design was just an insult on top of that. From other stuff that I don't care this much about: * Prolapsis had me very confused with the story, and the character outright says "I don't care who invades whom" to the first encountered NPC asking for help with invasion, which confused me even more. Who are we then? You can't just throw me into the future for the tutorial without first explaining who we are. * Medium to Hard difficulty is a change by a factor of good 20-40 times. I've started on Hard, and managed to get through the first boss, but the 2nd boss was instakilling 1-2 of my characters every turn, including the turn they are given for free in the hard's packet. Stat-wise their health was only doubled, but their damage felt 10 times stronger than on Normal. There should be a difficulty between the two. Something reasonably hard but not insane. * HP counts for bosses feel comedically large, especially when your first tutorial boss has 30-60 times more HP than an average enemy. Those Boss HP counts would be fine for Normal mode if they dealt more damage, but the generic enemies should rather keep their Hard mode scaling completely.(but they're being spam-spawned everywhere in the walking areas as "content" so it would be clashing with that) * "I can't hear a thing"... YOU'RE RESPONDING TO IT IN THE NEXT SENTENCE! I swear the dialogues sometimes made absolutely zero sense.(or at least lacked clarity)
