After putting 17 hours into this game, I have a few mixed feelings about it, though it is mostly positive! Pros: * I love all the potions available! There's so much to make and not too much room to make mistakes but enough that it encourages you to look at your potions recipes. * I LOVE the multiplayer option! It so much fun being able to play with my partner, we were quick to assign each other tasks. He collected materials, ground our plants into powder, and made sure the bottles were constantly filled while I got to enjoy the process of making the potions and putting them on the sales floor or delivering them to NPCs in the town. * The NPC designs are incredibly detailed. I loved watching each new NPC come into the shop looking a little bit different but clearly feeling like they have different personalities. * The Gnome helpers are a super cute addition! Increasing my gnomes level to handle the cashier tasks or to clean up make it more enjoyable for the rest of the game instead of feeling like I was stuck doing the same thing and not having time to prioritize daily tasks like making potions for rush hours or handling the inspector. That being said, the minigame for the cashier to haggle was a nice addition and it adds something new to a game of this category. * The size of the potion bottles added a new difficulty to the game. Some shoppers didnt mind the small bottles so you could make more with less materials while others insisted on large or huge bottles because of their ranking. * He personally, enjoyed being able to visually see the inventory as we collected it. You can easily upgrade your boxes to keep everything nice, organized and contained. * The space of the world was JUST RIGHT! It wasn't too far to run to the shops and talk to the npcs (other than the end game Orc) or to gather the materials early game. * The visuals for the plants growing was absolutely adorable. The slow animation was a nice little addition to the game that made watching the plants grow, actually fun! I very easily became addicted to this game! All I wanted to do was mindlessly create potions! That being said... Cons: * Unfortunately, the biggest flaw, was the storyline was TOO quick. After some time my partner was getting stuck in repetition so we decided to pick up the story, which when all potions are unlocked, took maybe an hour to get through. The story was dissatisfying and I felt like there should've been more to do. (**SPOILER WARNING**
it was really disappointing when we found out the shopkeeper turned into the frog but there was nothing else we could do. We couldn't save him, we couldn't interact with him, he just....hovers in space in a jar at the front of the store. It would've been fun to maybe make a potion to be able to talk to him and find out more, maybe even figure out if he wants to turn back and try to find the right potion to be able to turn him back. Something extra for content and to create a longer story!
) * Too many greenhouse upgrades, not enough store upgrades! The Greenhouse was great! But I was a little disappointed when the crystals require low light and humid conditions but there was a lack of a basement to encourage these conditions which would've helped the crystals. I also feel like, you dont need many plants to make your powders, so making the greenhouse so big is unnecessary. However, in the upstairs of the shop, there wasnt enough space to accommodate for the surplus of jars you would need to keep yourself fully stocked regularly. Being able to house more potions in store would've been nice as well, as the shop only has an upgrade or two for actual shop needs. * That being said, the inability of being able to customize the shop a bit more. Change the flowers on the outside of the building, provide more decorations aside from the same 10 items, allow decorating outside the building with flower boxes, maybe even include some ingredients needed on trees you can grow! ***SPOILER***
After gathering all the potions for the quest to the mysterious 13th potion, I was excited to go traveling with the npcs and my partner! Only to find out....we couldn't go with them. Traveling almost all morning across the map to be rejected in being able to travel with them, was disheartening. I understand its a shop simulator but being able to venture with them as a mini mission would've been fun!
* When loading the drying rack you can load all the plants with one easy click, but collecting was slightly more of a hassle. You could only collect by clicking on each individual item and be precise to not miss the small plant. * The inability to use the boxes to easily move items into the mortar or cauldron was a bit of a disappointment. This would've made things move a little faster. * SPEAKING OF THE CAULDRON! I wish there was more than one, or mayhaps more speed upgrades. Some potions took way too long and you weren't able to make more than one potion at a time (not regarding the 3 bottle upgrade as much as wanting to make and orc odor and frostbyte at the same time). Even allowing us to make two at a time would greatly benefit the game. Overall this game was a lot of fun to play and easily kept the ADHD mind busy! With a few fixes here and there and more storyline, I can see myself picking this up again! Hopefully we can see more in future updates or DLCs!
No entanto, no estado atual, é difícil defender. Veredito: há uma poção encantadora aqui, mas o frasco está trincado.
this doesn't feel like a finished game, and definitely not one worth a $17 price tag. the content is quite repetitive and tedious, and the area is huge with very little to do. it's also really strange to have a decoration mechanic but to have so many fixed objects the player can't move. being unable to move certain objects also means things can get stuck behind them and you're SOL. if this were labeled early access, I would understand its current state. but given that it appears to be complete, and priced quite high for how little content it has, I can't recommend it.
In its current state, it's difficult for me to recommend this game. The concept is excellent and the mechanics are charming, but there is very little content and the bugs I've encountered are pretty terrible. If you're playing a multiplayer session, it seems almost impossible to prevent your quest log from becoming badly broken. Progress doesn't sync correctly between players and you'll have quests in your log that you can't do because you haven't personally unlocked them yet, and quests that you've already completed that wont go away because your friend didn't. My friends and I fully wrapped this game in a weekend's worth of evenings. There's no more content. Every time we load the game, though, we're treated to a repeat of the end cutscene. There's a lot of potential here... but no sane person calls this a finished game.
You walk in, and you expect some little shop-keep, but what is unusual is how much stuff there is! For a two man team it is quite impressive how much content has been pumped into this game, I have returned multiple times and would happily do so again whether it is alone or with friends, it may seem stressful at times if you are to hit certain events of the days passing by but that's the neat part, you can close and open at any time and don't have to stress at all!
Absolutely stunning graphics and gameplay. Would recommend 10/10
The Best Discount Alchemist In All The Lands
The Positive's + Co-op Support + Multiple Upgrades + Fun Mechanics The Negative's - Repetitive Gameplay Loop - Boring Storyline W/ Forgettable Characters - One Looping Song The Aspect Of The Game After graduating Wizard University you try luck at working for position shops throughout the land but lack the experience needed to work well known shops so you are forced to work in a remote town on the outskirts of the kingdom which is full of misfit creatures living there where you must make a name for yourself. My Two Cent Review This is a fun little potion simulator where you can play by yourself or with friends. You start in a modest little potion shop and must experiment and make potions to sell to the town villagers. After awhile of selling potions and getting to certain level they expect a certain degree of quality and quantity from you and will no longer except anything less then the best which can be troubling if you are like me and mass produced low quality cheap potions on the fly. If you have a friend to help you it's much easier and quicker then working alone though you can hire gnomes which help automate the process though it isn't the same as having a living person help you manage logistics and production. There are plentiful upgrades that you can help ease the potion making process and automate it to a certain degree. The story the game has to offer is generic and quite forgettable with you looking for the missing town alchemist that worked in that potions shop before you. The quest is go here, read this, go there, make a potion for that guy and go over here type of deal. I honestly got bored with it 6 hours in and still no closer to finding my predecessor which I can live with. After a few hours of gameplay it all kind of blends together and loops. By Week 4 you've basically done everything you can do and unlocked everything gameplay wise. I'd say it would be a good early access game but it's not in early access status it's a full release which is a little disappointing because it has a lot of promise to be a great game but it's a okay simulator. It'll keep those shovelware simulator enthusiast for maybe a dozen hours at the most if you stretch but unless there adding more content it gets very repetitive after 2 - 3 hours. Also the soundtrack is just on looping song that never ends ya better bring your own music if ya plan to stay sane working for hours on end. The Value Of The Game While I wouldn't pay full price for this okay game I would pick it up if it was on sale. But for what there offering as a complete package I just can't see myself buying it for more then 10 dollars.
Final Score 70/100 Ranking C- Tier
Adorable fun little co-op game
I really wanted to like this game, but after playing Teddy's Haven, Tavern Legends and Medieval Startup, the difference in quality-of-life is impossible to ignore. Almost every action feels slower than it needs to be. There is no real player inventory, so you're stuck carrying around a tiny crate everywhere you go or carrying ONE item at a time? Come on... Instead of creating meaningful gameplay, it just adds unnecessary busywork. Brewing is another disappointment—a full vat of potion producing a single bottle feels absurd and makes the entire production loop feel sluggish. The cashier minigame is another example of design that wastes the player's time. It's mildly entertaining the first few times, but quickly becomes repetitive and adds no meaningful strategy or depth. The cauldron minigame ends up feeling the same way. Instead of making me feel like I'm running an efficient potion shop, the game constantly asks me to perform repetitive manual tasks that quickly become chores. Useless things like trash all over the shop every reload (when there was no customers), that only add annoyance. I kept waiting for the game to evolve with better tools, meaningful automation, or quality-of-life improvements that respected the player's time. They never came. Instead, the gameplay loop becomes an endless cycle of carrying crates, individually clicking and moving items, restocking shelves, and repeating the same actions over and over. What makes this especially disappointing is that the foundation is actually good. The visuals are excellent, the atmosphere is charming, and the concept has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, it feels like a game that stopped halfway through becoming what it could have been. In my opinion, too much emphasis was placed on co-op while the single-player experience—which is what most people will actually spend their time with—was left lacking. After reading other players' experiences, my concerns only grew. There are reports of physics issues, objects clipping through the world, shelves behaving incorrectly, upgrades that don't appear to function properly, and even players losing stocked shelves of potions after saving and reloading. Those kinds of bugs are incredibly discouraging in a management game where you're investing time building up your shop. The final nail in the coffin for me is that the developer has publicly stated they don't intend to continue development. What bothered me even more was hearing, more than once, that if they ever returned to the game it likely wouldn't be profitable. Whether that's understandable from a business standpoint or not, it doesn't inspire confidence that these issues will ever be addressed. Instead, the focus has already shifted to the studio's next project. Personally, I think the better decision would have been to finish polishing this one and deliver on the potential that is clearly there. As it stands, the asking price simply doesn't match the level of polish or the amount of meaningful content. Had this released as an Early Access title with continued development, I'd be far more forgiving. It feels like a promising game that was abandoned before it reached its full potential. Disappointing. Refunded.
At the time of this review I've played for about 4 hours, and I'm really enjoying it so far! Discovering the ingredient ratios for potions feels like a puzzle, it's a fun challenge trying to find the best ways to get the most potent mixes. The dev seems nice and was very responsive on discord, I posted about an issue with a particular ingredient and they had a fix ready within about 15 minutes, I was blown away! If you like crafting/shop sims, I would definitely recommend checking this one out
