If you want to play a game where your objective mainly consists of driving from point A to point B, some times in impossibly slow vehicles, then this is the game for you. Firstly, there does not seem to be any penalty for driving like an absolute idiot. The waypoint system has a tendency to show you the safe route, but this is the slow route. So why not cut across a some fields and drive across a taxiway. In real life road safety on an airport is paramount and there are super strict rules against veering even slightly off course or speeding. For a simulator game that consists mostly of driving, this seemed like a great opportunity of having some airport cop up your butt as soon as you decided not to go around the fuel depot, but through it instead. As for the tasks. It's literally: Get a task, get in a car, drive the car to the destination, wait for the bags/passengers/fuel to load, then drive back. At the end of the day, you are highly reccomended to drive all your vehicles back to the garage to avoid wear. (I didn't do this once and suddenly all my vehicles went "critical service status".. oops.) But I simply didn't do it because it was SO BORING. It was just another excuse to force me to drive another mundane drive through the same mundane airport layout you've driven through 30 times even after just 30 minutes in game. The driving controls are sub par. The AI is stupid and the cruise control is... well let's just say temperamental. There's no way of knowing if you've actually enabled the cruise control, until your car suddenly just starts braking after a few seconds, or you continue on your way. As for the AI. They seem to just go along some strings, making mostly sure they don't crash into anything. Even driving on a road with the baggage car, and an AI coming towards you, they'll just stop in the middle of the street in the lane next to you because they're afraid they might hit you. And yes, you get to hire workers, and manage your vehicles etc. but... that's not a simulator game. The only simulation in this game is driving. And there are plenty of games that do that better. This is more like a tycoon game where you're forced to do all the boring stuff yourself to earn enough money to start tycooning. But all this could have been forgiven if they'd actually put some interesting mechanics into the game. I've read that previous versions of this series have had minigames with tasks... why is this gone? Why do I just get a fade out when I reach the plane with my fuel truck? Why can't I get out of the truck, grab my hose, find the fuel intake, unscrew that and fit the hose. Then head back to the truck and make sure I fill up the plane with the correct amount of fuel requested by the pilot, at the correct mixture? THAT'S SIMULATION, not this crap.
Honestly super boring. You drive from point A to point B in a vehicle of your choosing. Rinse and repeat. ResidentSleeper
Cancel this flight sim with repetitive gameplay, monotonous tasks, and bland visuals
Airport Simulator 2019 boasts that you’ll be able to take command of your very own airport! Well, that’s only partially true with this sim by Toplitz Productions. After about 8 hours with this, I don’t think this sim is quite ready to take off. On the surface of things, Airport Simulator looks and sounds the part. You’ll be able to manage, hire, and train staff, drive a plethora of vehicles to complete tasks for aircraft, facilitate maintenance on your fleet, and enjoy taking control of your very own airport. That’s not quite it. Like at all...
Gameplay
For starters, the game is extremely repetitive. Also to note, this is more of an airport management game versus a simulator. You start each day selecting various airlines to complete tasks for. First problem, you can’t see what vehicles are needed for each task while on this screen. Meaning, if you just started, but wanted to do more for more money, you might not have the vehicle needed for the job or the funds to just rent it on the spot. On top of that, even if you rented it for the task, the vehicle is EXTREMELY slow regardless of its condition. I have wasted days doing maintenance on my entire fleet, wasting money to see if maximizing efficiency meant anything. It didn’t do diddly squat. My fleet was still super slow getting everywhere. It was to the point where I was constantly speeding things up to 20x because it was so boring plodding around at a grandma’s pace just to get from point A to point B. I really wanted to like this game, but goodness gracious it’s monotonous. After selecting an airline, you wait. In the meantime, unless you selected an early flight, you can check/refuel your fleet, hire/fire personnel, check to see if some can be levelled up, or click on the Next Event button which will jump to the first flight. Now, you can select whether you want to drive to the location with the specific vehicle or get one of the many dudes to drive it. One thing I did note was that there are ZERO female names in the personnel list to hire from. Are you trying to tell me that Betty, Karen, and Elizabeth can’t drive trucks or be engineers!? Laughing aside, that’s still odd that there are no women to select from as a female myself. If you don’t feel like dealing with the nonsense of watching Jimmy take his sweet behind time to drive to the location, you can click the Key icon beside the Drive icon which instantly completes the task for a fee. There is yet another wait period between each task to “simulate” the time it takes for the task to complete. Then Jimmy drives to some building, then back to the plane, or back to your hangar. Task Complete. You repeat these steps over and over again with various vehicles for numerous flights until your soul implodes. That’s it. And in between things, you have to take care of your fleet. Which means wasting days waiting for Juan to finish maintenance on my bus or some other vehicle. Upgrading the Service Shop did little as I saw no difference in speed with it maxxed or with an Engineer at max. It was still slow as molasses to wait for vehicles to finish service and often took several days. And even then, a vehicle with an Excellent stat and clear maintenance still drives horrendously slow. Like what’s the point of maxing everything and losing money daily to go like 1mph faster?! Gassing up your fleet doesn’t take that long at least. There are waypoints and a trail to follow, so you can’t get lost. I never followed it. I just drove all through the tarmac like it was nobody’s business. No penalty for that either. You can’t change anyone’s salary, you can’t name your airport, you can’t name airlines, you can’t change the colors of anything, you can’t even change the name of employees. It doesn’t even feel like YOUR airport. It feels like your SIDE of the airport. The horrible side with the slow behind vehicles that run like turds. So let’s talk about bugs, is the slowness a bug? It should be… Anyway, the are times when my fleet just go straight through the hangar doors. But I can’t even get the dang things to OPEN unless I click Home and wait for them to open and THEN I can go through. It’s a hit or miss. Then there are times when the ground marker doesn’t register I’m on it. I’m facing the right way, I’m not late, but it’ll just hang. It was at those times I just paid for the task to complete. The AI leaves so much to be desired. I’ll be following Brian and he’ll just stop in the middle of the path. No obstructions or other vehicles, then he’ll continue on his way. Or sometimes there will be a traffic jam just because another AI is being dumb further down the line.
Controls/Visuals
It controls fine. I just used a keyboard and mouse. The visuals are basic and planes and vehicles look alright, but nothing to write home about. Music is as elevator chill as it can get.
Overall
I just cannot in good faith recommend Airport Simulator 2019. It’s just boring with very little challenge. Staff is cheap, renting vehicles are cheap, you can just stack minor airlines and tackle them every day and still make bank. There’s so much slowness. Slow traveling, slow maintenance, just slow period. It’s best to just play at 20x speed because it’ll pause automatically for you to complete tasks anyway. Otherwise, there’s no point in playing on normal speed. I really wanted to like this game, but with such repetitive and monotonous gameplay coupled with bland visuals, you’re better off canceling your flight for Airport Simulator 2019. I was planning on making a FULL Video Review for this game....but, I cannot justify giving my time to this. Everything needed to make this a good game is here, but either in the wrong place, relegated to background when it should definitely be in the foreground or it's just been applied in a lazy and lacklustre fashion. This is NOT a Simulator...It's not even an RTS, it is a business management game, located within the confines of an airport. The stupid thing is, this is a great idea. The UI looks pretty decent, everything is legible and coherent. The way you have to play the game is agonisingly poorly thought out. This is a UI catastrophe and changes are needed regarding the way the UI has to be interacted with. Working on this aspect alone would boost the ratings for this title a huge amount! AI vehicles are everywhere, getting on with their work and the place feels alive! Let's face it, some very BIG Full Simulation titles don’t even have AI planes let alone the ground crew, so there are some good elements to this game. 90% of people buying this title are most interested in seeing the ground crew performing their tasks on the aircraft, and you can see this being done, but the UI interface is ALWAYS in the way. It's just poorly put together, a common theme with this title. This is the 3rd iteration...LISTEN TO FEEDBACK and make the changes we want, not whoever it is who thinks this is what people want....3 titles all received very badly but STILL people look and see and hope that it will be better this time.
Any of you have that one game you play late into the night when you're bored and too tired to be entertained by anything normal? AS19 is that game for me. I still am unsure why I find it enjoyable after 43+ hours, but there it is. I have literally sat up all night playing this three times lol. I think what you need to do with this game is *not* play it as designed, and then it becomes good. The majority of my hours have been logged running in control tower mode and letting the AI run my vehicles - I play this like a logistics simulator, running only one set of vehicles and jamming flights back to back in an effort to fail jobs as at this point I have millions of dollars and really can't lose. It's just...weirdly satisfying actually losing sometimes. Yes, there are bugs. AS19 deserves lots of the hate it gets, mainly due to jet bridges which slam into invisible walls and never serve your flights, rendering full manual control of higher-paying jobs impossible. Vehicle conditions degrade through use or even just being left outside and cannot be repaired - you can send them to the garage which claims to service them but it does not. But even with these issues, I still like it. You might as well, just be sure and wait for a sale as these developers have a nasty habit of abandoning poorly performing titles early.
1st of I will say, I'm going to keep the game. While the bad reviews are valid, I don't agree with them. This is a simple task game. Think a typical Game House old school Diner Dash type game. Except, in this case, the food is the bus and various other airport support vehicles. Once you understand that and don't pay full price (buy during a sale) I think you will enjoy this game. My view is to hire personal and equipment so you don't need to do them yourself. That's where the game lacks. It's clear to me that the player doing a task is not the goal and as such when driving vehicles the controls are horrible. To get around this what I did, don't take any planes to manage and hire staff then fast forward to the day that you will have at least 2 truck drives and one engineer. It takes a few game days for hired staff to show up similar to real-life you don't hire a person then they start the same day. The period before you have staff is pretty bad. If you buy it and want to try it before your time runs out on possible return, skip the tutorial, hire two truck drivers and an engineer don't take any planes to manage then, click next day until you have a full staff. Then play the game. The game then becomes a decent sim to manage the support of an airport. The one true downside is that no matter what video settings I use there is an occasional frame rate drop, this isn't an issue if you are not driving. But as I mentioned before you shouldn't drive anyway.
I played for 30 minutes and, like everyone else says, you literally go point a to point b. Its incredibly boring and repetitive. I'm not sure theres a way to improve this game... Its really boring. I refunded it.
Terrible game Drive from garage to plane and then back to garage and so on I can also hire helpers and to make it even worse I am stuck in the garage I am not positioned in the control tower like Airport simulator 2013 and 2015 so I cant see anything happening it is incredibly boring.
This game sucks, vehicles have warning lights you can't fix, or maybe you can, but no manual so I've tried sending it back for maintenance, upgrading the hell out of it, and yet the light is still there and drives at 20 miles an hour, go figure....really bad, glad I only paid a fiver, but even that feels wasted money....
