(updated review) As of writing this, I’ve only played Air Twister for about 3 hours, and wow—what an experience! The MUSIC! The GAMEPLAY! The AESTHETIC! It instantly takes me back to a time when gaming felt bold, experimental, and full of wonder; Before “conventions” dulled everything down. This is a 90's game both in design and audio visuals, yet made for modern hardware. Imagine a thrilling on-rails shooter bursting with colorful 3D graphics, fantastical environments, and character designs that feel like something straight off a 2005 graphics card box. Now top it off with a melodic Rock Opera Soundtrack from Valensia (Queen-like music), and you have a taste of what kind of game awaits. I bought it on sale without knowing what to expect, but I was blown away. Legend Yu Suzuki is at the helm, and it really shows, this feels like a passion project from a small but incredibly talented team. It was first released for Apple Arcade, which you can tell by the way menus are designed and on-screen icons being present (although they shouldn't on a PC release, that's my only negative) The progression system is nice, you unlock new costumes, skills, weapons, accessories, game modes, soundtrack by using stars that you have received by playing the game. Although I have "completed" the game, I don't feel like I am done quite yet. :) I have a lot more to unlock. And it's still a fun simple game where you can improve your result. Also, there's a lot of new game modes I haven't tried yet.
Yu Suzuki doing an updated Space Harrier, with rip-off Queen music and completely fever dream-esque visuals and enemies. The later stage are stupidly difficult thanks to the always unpredictable laser attacks from the enemies. It is mostly for fans of Space Harrier and oddball games. Very rough around the edges but I take this over another boring Shenmue game any day.
This game is a weird one and I like it. If you like Space Harrier you're in for a treat. Very surreal sci-fi atmosphere backed by some heavily Queen inspired fanciful music. The art of it is very fun and imaginative. It's got a lot of extras to get you playing through multiple times. A few different challenge modes and unlockable costumes and weapons help, too. If you're way into modern gaming, this might not be for you. It's not story rich and there's no multiplayer. It's also not very complex mechanically. If you like the weird offbeat arcade games, though, this game is worth a try. I bought it on discount and was happy with it.
YEEEES!!! Really good game, similar to the Panzer Dragoon series but with its own flair! Yū Suzuki style!! Great game!
easy contender for best rail shooter with a queen-like soundtrack to date
It's a fun simple arcade game. There is lot of cosmetics to unlock but it will get repetitive fast. The main game would benefit with longer levels and well...more levels.
