Age of Empires: Definitive Edition

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition beweist eindrucksvoll, dass ein Spiel aus den 90ern auch heute noch in der Lage ist, den Blutdruck in Rekordzeit steigen zu lassen. Man beginnt friedlich mit ein paar Dorfbewohnern, sammelt Beeren und jagt Gazellen. Fünf Minuten später steht ein feindlicher Streitwagen vor der Haustür und man fragt sich, ob man versehentlich den Schwierigkeitsgrad „historisch akkurat“ ausgewählt hat. Die Definitive Edition hat dem Klassiker eine schicke Generalüberholung spendiert. Die Grafik ist deutlich hübscher, die Musik weckt Nostalgie und alles läuft angenehm flüssig. Das macht es allerdings nur einfacher, in hoher Auflösung zuzusehen, wie die eigene Zivilisation dem Erdboden gleichgemacht wird. Besonders beeindruckend ist die Wegfindung. Man schickt zehn Einheiten los, und mindestens drei beschließen, dass ein kleiner Spaziergang um den halben Kontinent die beste Route zum Ziel ist. Offenbar hatten schon die alten Ägypter ein Faible für Umwege. Und trotzdem macht das Spiel unglaublich viel Spaß. Es ist gnadenlos, fordernd und erinnert einen alle paar Minuten daran, dass "ich spiele nur noch eine Runde" eine glatte Lüge ist. Fazit: Ein liebevoll modernisierter Klassiker, der Nostalgie mit einer gesunden Portion Frust kombiniert. Wer strategische Herausforderungen mag und kein Problem damit hat, sich regelmäßig von einer KI vorführen zu lassen, wird hier bestens unterhalten. 5 von 5 Sternen – meine Dorfbewohner haben zwar wieder vergessen, was Arbeit ist, aber ich komme trotzdem immer wieder zurück. Incredible game. Played as a kid and for each hour I play it I am a 10 years old once more only with more knowledge and new strategies to beat the enemy and of course to have some fun. Great graphics, awesome logic for it's time is quite an advanced game.

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is a faithful remaster of a classic in the Real-Time-Strategy genre, but time has not been kind to it, unfortunately. The remaster has better graphics, and adds some quality of life improvements (Unit Queueing, Farms can be passed through) that fixes the issues that plagued the 1997 original. The game’s biggest problem, however, is that its sequel exists. Age of Empires II plays pretty much like the first, but it improves in every single way imaginable: - Houses can store 5 units instead of 4 - Farms are automatically rebuilt - More military unit variations - Unit formation options - Improved AI pathfinding - Maps feels bigger - More single-player content (AoE 1 has 10, while AoE 2 has over 40) The only thing where I think the first one is better at is cheats. Deep down, AoE 1 is a good game, but it has some flaws that the sequels remedies and ends up being the better game. If you want a game in the series, get [b]Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition[/b]. You’re not missing out on much by skipping the first one. 3 / 5

Age of Empires 1 - Definitive Edition ist für mich ein gelungenes Remaster. Das doch sehr in die Jahre gekommene AoE hat hier eine würdige Neuauflage spendiert bekommen. Was mich etwas gestört hat war die Wegpfindung der eigenen Truppen. Man musste sie schon teils mühselig durchlotsen. Ansonsten ist es wirklich ein sehr gutes Spiel für Echtzeit-Strategie fans und Freude von Historischen Kampagnen. Wer ein Echtzeit-Strategie Spiel in der Antike sucht kommt um Age of Empires: Definitive Edition nicht herum. Gefühlt für mich ein 85+ Game.
