Mindmaps, the game! Seriously, this wasn't fun and reminded me of school, where the only correct answer was the teacher's interpretation, word for word. Like, you need to link 2 subjects, but there is only one correct way, which is nuts. Example: to find clues about blackmail you interview person A - 1.they used the same quill that the note was written in, 2.they had money problems, and 3.they recently got a large sum. Person B was balckmailed and paid. So the game wants you to connect the two. But even though all three clues from person A are incriminating, the game demands you must link "used the same quill" with person B, not any of the others. I'd say I had to find 60% of the links just tying knots over and over, until the game would highlight the correct one, despite several others also making sense. There are also inconsistancies. Like much at the end one thoughtpoint pops up that says: "she must have put it in the hidden room". When there was no hidden room mentioned before. Or rather at the very start you see the guestrooms all have a theme from a group of seven, and only find 6. But it is never kept as a thoughtpoint until the very end, so you're not looking for a hidden room. Poirot is also really full of himself, despite this supposedly being the first cases, and he pretty much fails the tutorial case, so no idea why he's so high and mighty already. The reporter also metions he was in a shootout, but we never hear or read about that either. You cannot save the game yourself. Early on you learn you cannot fail, since any interrogation you fumble restarts right away. This is true until the very end, where they allow you to not get the denoument perfect. And instead of being able to save and only replay the end, you have to replay the entire game. There are also some visal glitches, like you go searching for clues in the snow, and it's just a game of luck for you to find some when your mouse happens to hover over one. There is no way for you to actually find them yourself. Except one clue, which are footprints... from yesterday... during continuous snowfall... right. Chekow's maid never reappears (and that's not the only 'clue' never explored or wrapped up, one person keeps mentioning the war and how it messed them up, and how the victim was part of that, but they aren't the one to say what they did, it's a note you find later), the Lady is WAY too arrogant towards Poirot after he found out about her affair, plenty of links make no sense (X being allowed to see the body, and X helping Y find a maid have nothing to do with each other, but are connected appearantly) we do not get free range of the house ever (not ony dumb since we are police, but wrong paths are just not open anymore, once they've been explored. Except for one which gives an achivement), and it feels overall less like a mystery game and more like a visual novel. And it's not even pretty like that (backgrounds and anything outside an immideate bubble is blurry). Controls are weird (WASD is an option appearantly, without being introduced, I found that by accident/habit), and you can't zoom out the whole map to send Poirot straight where he needs to go, but must click the ground near the point you want to interact with until it's on the map, then you can click that. So if you like "mystery" visual novels, I guess you could like this, but if you like looking for clues and making your own connections, or if you're a fan of Poirot, this isn't for you. Seriously, now that I'm done playing, I wonder if AI had a hand in the script.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

the gameplay mechanics are easy to use and understand, and i enjoyed the storyline

The First Cases is a surprisingly charming detective adventure that leans more on atmosphere and deduction than spectacle. As a young Poirot, you’re thrown into a web of family secrets, shifting motives, and classic Christie-style intrigue. The narrative is the game’s strongest asset: well‑paced, layered, and full of small details that reward careful attention. The gameplay focuses on clue‑gathering and building mind maps to connect evidence. It’s simple but satisfying, especially for players who enjoy slow‑burn investigations rather than action-heavy gameplay. The presentation is modest—animations and environments feel a bit dated—but the art direction still manages to create a cozy, mysterious tone.
Recommended, but mostly for the story and themes. The gameplay was rather frustrating at times and threatened my patience and overall desire to continue. I speak mostly of the mind mapping - an arduous, annoying task that makes you connect the most basic facts together and cobble together conclusions that feel rather unnecessary to the investigation. Connections felt extremely particular and if you didn't get it exactly right, you had to just click around and hope for the best. Mind map aside, the dialogue checks were a bit too ambiguous for me to fully understand what which was best at times. I found on several occasions that Poirot would recommend a particular style of interrogation, but neither possible option felt fitting. And as a result, I had to redo conversations a few times because I didn't choose correctly. Pacing's slower, but that's fine because as other reviewers have said, it's like reading a book. The problem is, you end up spending 8-10 hours with Poirot, whose character wears itself steadily less welcome and more insufferable as you progress through the story. It would've been fine if he wasn't extolling his greatness and virtue as frequently as he does while maintaining an annoying level of rigidity. If you play it, play it for the story and consider using a guide if you'd like to get all the possible pieces of evidence. Expect the mind mapping to be obnoxious, but it helped when I realized there was usually some kind of symmetry and co-location of the clues.
Can at times get a bit tedious, but overall it's an enjoyable experience :)
Short but nice game
