This is a very cool concept for a horror game. During the day you channel surf and at night you mess with the antennas on your TV to find secret channels. The atmosphere is great and the claymation art really adds to the unsettling vibe. Love the vision but it's a little too short for the pricepoint ($10 for a 45min game is nuts). Fortunately they have a bundle with Home Safety Hotline that regularly hits ~$10 on sale, so get it that way.
If you love analog horror this might be a nice little experience for you, but tbh there's not much real gameplay, and basically you just stay in the same room and fiddle with the antenna and go through all the channels and see what happens. There ARE enemies, which can spawn from the ceiling or the floor or anywhere, and that is the worst part since all you can do is just keep pressing the spacebar (to wield your remote like a wand and cast some electrical magic) and try not to step on something strange in the dark which might instantly kill you.
A short game full of silly, low quality "claymation" monsters. During the day there are stereotypical-but-creepy 60s TV shows made of single frame graphics, and during the night after sign-off you find monsters by changing channels and adjusting the rabbit ears. Most of the monsters are harmless, but some attack you, which unfortunately highlight the game's lousy controls and are frustrating experiences. Each night more and more monsters are available, and on the last night all of them are available, and the game ends when you find them all. The game's cute and goofy stop-motion aesthetics make up for the bad controls, and kept me playing through my frustration to get to the end.
I desperately wanted to enjoy this game. I really enjoy the visual style and I thought the premise was cool, but it quickly turns into a frustrating experience. Far too many enemies (and, yes there are enemies) are spawned in at once and can be spawned in under you; that in combination with the fact that I couldn't get the spacebar to consistently fire meant I was too frustrated by the end to actually finish the game. Although the price to play time is very steep, there is a scenario where I personally would be satisfied with it (even without a sale discount) but it would have to truly be a fantastic horror experience. That said the game is currently 75% off and I still don't feel like it's anywhere near where it needed to be. Beyond the frustration, the pacing of events feels off, channel skits go by pretty quickly and horror events feel surface deep. Despite everything, I do love the theming and effort that went into maintaining that. I'd like to see how far the developers can go, but this particular experience just left me disappointed.
Remember, if Boneyhead comes after you for being a bad roommate, please call the Home Safety Hotline, they will provide a remote to zap him away. Also, nice job guys :)
I downloaded this game without many expectations;I was just intrigued by its dark, dreamlike aesthetic. Turns out it was one of the best decisions I could’ve made. Though short, the experience was truly thrilling, with spikes of anxiety and tension, and at times a bit of frustration when I couldn’t quite grasp what was going on. But with some patience and perseverance, everything falls into place and starts to make sense. A Lynchian nightmare with echoes of Svankmajer’s sculptural art. A small self-produced gem that deserves far more attention. The backstage artbook at the end is unmissable, packed with curiosities and interesting insights. I loved reading every single page. Needless to say, I now have to catch up on the series mentioned in the game, which I didn’t know existed. Kudos, this is a truly unique and original game!
Great game and creativity behind it, loves the BTS booklet. I will say the ost being the price it is despite several tracks just being 9 second in game tv commercials is a bit much, bought it on sale specifically for "in my dreams"
This was a weird, enjoyable little experience. You watch channels during the 'day' and then at night the real 'game' portion begins. The game segment is nothing special. You're mainly playing this for the art and vibes honestly. The goal is to fill up your info book through the nights, learning how each channel works and trying to avoid the ones that are harmful. I'm honestly not sure I understand the reviews that complain about enemy spawns. On Night 2 there only like one easily avoided one if you're paying attention to what channel has what. By the last night there is primarily 2 that can spawn multiple enemys, and one more that can spawn one stronger delayed one. Everything but that last one does a small amount of damage, and by then you have another channel unlocked that can instantly heal you to full hp every time you swap to it. That alone makes the game pretty easy. There are a few 'trap'/delayed danger conditions that are easily avoided by just swapping to the correct channel, or away from the trap.
