One of the most hauntingly beautiful and criminally underrated games I've ever experienced. It's difficult not to draw comparisons to games like Journey, ABZÛ, and INSIDE. Like those titles, After Us tells its story of ecological and societal loss using very few words, relying instead primarily on environmental storytelling, atmosphere, music, and visual symbolism to communicate its themes. That being said, After Us is far from a mere imitation of the aforementioned titles. Its platforming and movement mechanics are satisfying in their own right, the level design remains consistently inventive, and the world itself is breathtaking. Every environment manages to be simultaneously beautiful and tragic, depicting a planet scarred by humanity while still clinging to fragile remnants of hope. It's one of those rare games where I found myself stopping simply to admire the sun scorched vista before continuing on. My only criticism is that some of the platforming can occasionally feel a little imprecise, and a few collectible hunts drag on longer than necessary. Even so, these are minor blemishes on an otherwise unforgettable experience. After Us isn't a game for players looking for constant action or spectacle. It's contemplative, melancholic, and deeply atmospheric. If you appreciate games that prioritize mood, environmental storytelling, and emotional impact over dialogue and exposition, than this is the one for you. An absolute hidden gem, and one I imagine deserves far more attention than it ever received. update: by the time i finished the game, i was getting a bit tired of the tedious platforming coupled with the often clunky controls...still a great game, but it took about 200% longer than the average player to complete.
About 16 hours for me to complete all levels, all memories and all spirits. For the most part, it is a chill game. There are a few "action" sequences where you battle some creatures but for the most part you are running and jumping. The 3D aspect to platforming can be a bit frustrating at times. The character can tend to float a little bit too much. But I never raged quit and powered through. The swimming section is a bit of a pain and probably my least favorite. The graphics and music are very well done. The game did struggle to run at 60fps on high (not epic) settings. I turned off AA as some players recommended to do so. The controls are easy to pick up and are fairly responsive. The story is your typical humans trashed the earth and your job is to "renew" the earth. It is very heavy handed in getting this point across as all sections show just how much humans do destroy the planet. While I never felt emotionally attached to the main character, I can see how some people would relate to them. I'm not sure what the memories are trying to convey as they don't seem to be story related at all. There are a fwe bugs here and there. There is also some world clipping. For the most part, it ran just fine. Get it on sale or part of a bundle. For me, it was worth the time I played and I'm glad I did.
I recommend the game but maybe not on the pc to be honest, there's a really weird static like visual that happens when you turn your camera in one of the worlds and it's impossible to beat the game. Luckily it was the last world I had left so I just watched a youtube video. What really saddens me though is that the animal tied to this world is my favorite animal 😭😭 I tested it on Steam Deck as well and it seems to run just fine on it so if you're planning on playing on Steam Deck then it's totally worth it.

After Us is a nice artistic game which I really enjoyed playing. The songs, the graphics and controller support is very well implemented. The story...is for each and one to interpreted as they play After Us. It took about 18 hours including to get all the achievments. If you like platformer, puzzle with nice songs, good graphics, controller and story, this is for you. In 4K and everything at max, there was no stuttering or any other problems with Rtx 5000 series.
Atmospheric game with a powerful message. Weird error for the last achievement though.
