The only spacecraft that remains unaffected is the experimental AF-ZERO prototype. As its pilot, Vania Scorpion, your mission is to locate the source of the infection and destroy it before the virus can spread any further.

Reviews
It's another cheap 2D Shoot 'em up game but not worth pay 99 cents for. Level design is uninspiring. Enemies move too fast and their attack patterns are too fast to memorize. And the controls feel broken especially with the default key settings. No extra lives and no continues. I Can't get past the 1st stage. Weapon power ups are disappointing and the music is not the worst I've heard but compared to games like Zed Blade and Gradius, it's nowhere near the level of those 2. And in terms of challenge, it doesn't come as close to games like Radiant Silvergun or Ikaruga. My final rating for AF-Zero is a 4.75 out of 10. If you REALLY want a good 2D Shooter here, Try Raiden III or Raptor: Call of the Shadows. Or for consoles, try R-Type Dimensions on Xbox 360, PS4 & Nintendo Switch, Galaga on any device, or Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth for the Nintendo 64
AF-ZERO is a poorly made 2D retro pixel vertical scrolling arcade bullet hell/shoot 'em up with a sci-fi/spaceships theme (ho-hum). Putting aside the fact there's hundreds of better shmups on Steam, even if this was the only one you wouldn't want to play it. It's just that badly made, every aspect of the game is poorly assembled, from the phoned in graphics to the sheer lack of polish and finesse in the control scheme. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The game only displays in roughly 1:1 arcade machine pillarboxed aspect ratio. It's possible they developed this using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game has been specifically designed for people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming. Bewilderingly, the game doesn't include proper audio controls, so you can't turn off the annoying background music, you'll need to alt+tab out and stop the music using the Windows sound mixer. This is obviously not okay and it's unclear why the developers chose not to include this basic feature. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. AF-ZERO is relatively cheap at $3 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.

no
I love the janky hand-drawn graphics and the completely uneven difficulty that messes with you until you figure it out. There is a rhythm to a few of the bosses that makes them a lot of fun to complete. Also, the ending of this game is hilariously bad and the best thing I have ever seen.
garbage
