The art design is great and I like the combat a lot, although it can be slow. I highly recommend playing with the wiki so you know what your choices do.
Yeah it's a little buggy and yeah the UI could be tweaked but god danm if this didn't hit everything else right on the mark. SUPER atmospheric, delightfully esoteric, a rich world, co-op that makes even individual decisions collaborative, and yes obviously the art style which is even more gorgeous than on the videos. First session my friend and I played for like six hours and stopped only because it was 1:30 in the morning. The main complaint I see in reviews is dificutly but I think the issue goes deeper. This ain't XCOM, folks. The winning strategy isn't moving to half cover and spamming infinite grenades. You've got to look at enemy cooldowns, movement, and plan two turns ahead. Think along the lines of Darkest Dungeon/Gloomhaven/Divinity Original sin; all (excellent) games people also complained about being too hard. You are constantly walking a razor's edge in Aetheris, and I get why some wouldn't like that balancing act but I find it incredibly rewarding. It could benefit from some QoL, balance, etc. issues, sure, but there's nothing that breaks the experience. And the experience is, frankly, great. Aetheris is full of really smart design in an incredibly colorful world (literally and metaphorically). It's engaging, with stunning audio and visuals. What it may lack in polish it makes up for in heart tenfold. Feeling somehow both familiar but also unique, it provides a special kind of experience. I get this won't be a game for everyone but I heartily recommend it.
Very nice game
I would not recommend it.
