Adventures of Chris

It's surprisingly fun. The level design and art assets are a bit patchwork and slapdash but there's something about it that reminds me of old webcomics. The tone might be devisive but I think that it overall works for me. I think it's because it never feels like it's trying to be more clever than the audience and never comes across as smarmy even with some more mean-spirited jokes (I kind of dislike mean mode's writing because it's more in line with what you might expect, but I'm glad that sort of humor is sequestered in there). It's a bit nostalgia-soaked for my taste but it feels like it comes from a genuine place, and I found myself actually invested in Chris's story by the end, something I wasn't really expecting. Generous checkpoints make the game fairly easy on the whole, I think it's something of a concession to the player that these levels weren't rigorously balanced to play through without dying. I liked when the difficulty picked up, some players might have trouble with some of the last fights but that's probably because they're not using their full toolkit. Heard about this from the obvious source and picked it up for ~3 bucks on sale, pleasant surprise on the whole.

This game is not for the faint of heart. ive lost my job my marriage all because i was obsessed with beating this game when i clearly couldnt, its just too hard. I got my name legally changed to chris because this game is just so good. i give it 10 ballons out of 10

Eh, it's fine. If you're a fan of 90's pop culture, this game is loaded with it. Some lines will make you chuckle, others will make you roll your eyes. Grab it when its on sale if you want to give it a try.
