I've tried to get behind Adventurer Manager on a few separate occasions but I just simply cannot. The dialogue has charm, and the visuals are nice, if not a little basic, but the game is overall poorly done. The absolute core problem with Adventurer Manager is that it is not a management sim. In fact, you get punished for playing it like one! What kind of nonsense is that? For the record, I recognize that there are many other reviewers who have gone into Adventurer Manager without knowing there were RPG elements. They clearly didn’t read the store page and those negative reviews are undeserved. However, I did know about those factors, and I’m still disappointed. The reason being, I believed I would have the option to do some classic turn-based combat RPG things, but I did not anticipate that the game would punish me for choosing not to. This is the absolute core problem with Adventurer Manager. It punishes you for playing the game one of its two ways, even though it has been marketed as though you can play it either way. There’s not particularly any reason for it either, and I can’t wrap my head around why the developer got the idea to design his game this way. To me it’s just nonsense. I’m not a turn-based RPG guy by any means, but I can play them and enjoy them if they’re good. I’ve enjoyed games like Mother, Paper Mario, Undertale, etc. but, frankly, there’s nothing the turn based RPG elements in this game do particularly unique or well. So let’s get this straight… The game presents itself as being able to be played two ways…but in actuality it punishes you for playing the game one of those two ways, the way I prefer to play, and the way it does force you to play isn’t even that good. These are the makings of a frustrating gameplay experience. However, I do have other, somewhat less series complaints with Adventurer Manager. To being with, the introduction of core gameplay elements is haphazardly put together. For instance, the game never introduces you to the University unless you happen to click on it, there is no natural progression of the story or levels, yhere is no clear explanation of stats or how they work, smelting weapons and armor never gets properly get explained, etc. The funniest part about this is that the actual tutorial is quite lengthy. Truly good games introduce you to all these aspects naturally, and this game does not do so. It throws it all at you very quickly and haphazardly and tries to let you figure it out. Maybe that style is for some people, but it’s certainly not for me, and I think it’s lazy. I’d say about half of what the game has to offer never gets explained until you the player by random chance click on it. I like figuring things like optimal strategies for myself, but I appreciate some sort of introduction to the gameplay element at the very least. The loot tables are wonky, we’re talking looter shooter on crack levels of weird, and despite the fact that there are a million pieces of loot, hardly any are good. From the very beginning of the game items of White, Green, etc. quality are worthless, not even to pick up and vendor, the route to get to the end goal is not clearly established, and overall the game just feels poorly put together. For example, while dungeon crawling, sometimes random events occur which are displayed with a randomly generated text. More often than not, it does not make any sense at all. e.g. "Jeff stops to ponder his futile existence" You can either "Eat a dead goat" or "listen to the sounds of one hand clapping" Brilliant stuff here. There are a number of bugs, most notably the sound that the “defend” action is at max volume even when the rest of the entire game’s volume is completely turned off… and the sound effect is terrible. Yet perhaps worse than the bugs is the fact the game has been completely finished. The game is completely abandoned and some bugs will never get a fix, and there will be no more updates in the known future. To my knowledge, the original developer handed off the game to another person, who made some bug fixes and changes for a short while, but couldn’t sustain the project financially so was forced to end it. So the nail has been put in the coffin here. And, let’s be real, that's really a shame, because I feel like all the pieces are here. Concept is good, art style is nice, customization options are good, class number is awesome, methods of progression are cool, but unfortunately Adventurer Manager doesn't get it right. It's not a terrible game by any means, but it's not particularly good either. If there was more time and care given to this game it could be great, something I don’t say often about many games, but sadly that will never happen. 3.5/10
A game that has more depth that I originally gave it credit for and a very good idea behind it. Unfortunately, it has a bit tedious grinding and weird loot drop rate. It was not my cup of tea, but I recommend it because I really appreciated the effort behind the game, while I honestly expected it to be borderline shovelware. I will keep an eye out to this company for future games.
I'm going to thumb this up, not so much for the game itself (6.67/10), but for the fact it actually made me want to play HOMM3 & HOMM5 again. It's not so much that this game tries to clone HOMM series - it doesn't - but it has one element of said game(s), loot management. Trying to outfit your adventurers with the best gear possible, in and of itself, can actually be entertaining. Beyond that and specifically, the game should be called Loot Manager rather than Adventurer Manager: comparing items is how you will spend 80% of your time as there's an overabundance of loot and poor automatic filters. As to why I rate this so poorly despite thumbing it up: - Skill tree is bare and uninteresting; - UI is oversized, unrefined, and generally not very helpful; - The game is grindy. I managed to finish it w/ a level 40 party of 4, but there's something like 13 classes and you have to level them all to 50 for achievements; - The game is grindy (bis). When I finished the game my oldest adventurer was, maybe, 30 years old (started as 18 years old), but one achievement requires you to play to 90 years old; - It's a MIN/MAX'er nightmare because the equipment filters are inadequate, meaning you will have to do a lot of manual comparisons. Specifically: --- The attribute filter is using the AND operator (too restrictive) whereas it should use the OR operator; --- There should be an attribute sum filter which would allow you to select multiple attributes and do a summation; --- The equipment filter tends to filter armor based on what you have equipped, discarding other armor types, but sometimes leather can be better than plate, depending on attributes; --- Gear Score is a one size fits all element, which unfortunately isn't helpful for manual adventurers. The ability to add values to attributes (e.g. Maybe you value intelligence at 1.5 per 1 for a wizard) on a per class basis should have been given to players to help w/ gear selection; - The game forces you to manually adventure as it punishes automatic adventuring, which goes against the idea of an Adventurer Manager game; - A little more than half the classes are not unlocked at the beginning. By the time I unlocked these classes, I had more than enough manual adventuring parties, so I basically didn't care much for these "new" classes, other than for achievements; - The game scales very poorly. About that last point: do not create more than 3 parties of manual adventurers (So maximum 12 manual adventurers). In fact 2 parties of manual adventurers is probably enough (8 adventurers) if you manage your manual/auto adventuring parties tightly. All other additional adventurers/parties you create should be doing automatic adventuring. Meaning you can use pure Gear Score to outfit them, without bothering to evaluate if an item is actually good or not for the adventurer (Automatic adventuring only uses Gear Score to decide on outcome). Even then, you will still spend an awful amount of time comparing items for your 8 to 12 manual adventurers. Tips: - My best manual adventuring parties ended up being 2 Barbarians + 2 Clerics and 2 Paladins + 2 Wizards. - Read or at least take a brief look at these two guides: "Party Combination Guide (Bonuses)" and "Lessons Learned on the way to Miraj Castle"
There isn't much adventure managing. It's mostly a slow, old school rpg. Clearing a dungeon is very time consuming. I expected the crappy graphics but there really is nothing to see. Even in the dungeon all you see is the same screen. The skills are really lackluster. 1st level might do 120% damage, 2nd does 125%, and so on. Pumping up skills doesn't do much. And I really don't understand the cleric at all, he uses a mace and he shoots ranged (the mace says ranged), but I have no idea how to increase his total crap damage. (maybe strength) This is another game that was great in theory, horrible in execution. If it's an RPG manager it should have fast moving, almost automatic battles. You can send your guys on some auto battles but the dungeon clearing isn't an option. You have to do it to advance the game.
On the surface this seems like a fun kingdom manager, but it's more of a dungeon crawler. There's plenty of locations, classes, and skills; but the game is just a repetitive grind. It's not even particularly hard since the game throws legendary and mythic items at you almost immediately. It's missing many quality of life improvements and just seems to want to annoy you at every turn. For example, you can't just click on an enemy to do a basic attack. You must first click the basic attack The music will drive you nuts with the battle music being a slight exception. The artwork is in between passable for pixel style and lazy. Dwarves for example are just stretched horizontally, halfings and gnomes are just smaller. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, there are better RPG dungeon crawlers out there. Pros: A lot of customization. Cons: Lazy art style Overly complicated tutorial Lacks quality of life mechanics Repetitive music Do you get one Hour of gameplay per $6 paid?: Yes. Game is cheap, you will at least get an hour out of it. Ease of 100%: Easy, but time consuming. (100% Being all achievements, Unlocks, Upgrades, Ect.)
I like the idea of this game but the combat/dungeon crawling is tedious and not fun at all. If I could actually just be king and send groups out for all missions that would flip me to a recommend.
Abandoned. Grindy. Unpolished - gameplay-wise as much as UI-wise. Lots of annoying bugs. So-so jokes, not a very thoughtful story, around zero to nothing game mechanics explaination. Still fun. But I can't recommend it to anyone.
Adventurer Manager.
Lots of potentail but mediocare results.
This is not a manager game in any sense of the idea that you carry with that word and games. This is just a casual, indie rpg where you assemble a party and go fight. If you try to play it as a manager and have your adventurers fight without you, you are punished.
