Jeux super sympa. Perso un peu lourd mais on s'y fait
Adventure of Samsara takes inspiration from one of Atari’s earliest classics and transforms it into a modern exploration-focused Metroidvania filled with mystery, atmospheric storytelling, and interconnected world design. Instead of simply recreating the original Adventure with updated graphics, the developers reinterpret the core ideas of discovery and exploration into something much larger and more ambitious. The result is a haunting science-fiction fantasy adventure that feels deeply nostalgic while still offering enough originality to stand on its own among modern indie action-platformers. The game follows the Solar Champion, a resurrected warrior brought back to life within a dying and fragmented world consumed by cosmic corruption. From the opening moments, Adventure of Samsara establishes a mysterious tone built around forgotten civilizations, ancient technology, and strange supernatural forces. The story is intentionally vague for much of the experience, allowing players to slowly uncover the truth through environmental clues, hidden lore, and exploration rather than lengthy exposition. This approach creates a constant sense of curiosity because every new region feels connected to a larger mystery waiting to be understood. Exploration is the centerpiece of the entire experience. The world is designed as a sprawling interconnected labyrinth filled with secret passages, hidden upgrades, environmental hazards, and areas that only become accessible after obtaining new movement abilities or equipment. The game constantly rewards players for paying attention to their surroundings and revisiting previous locations with newly unlocked powers. Discovering shortcuts and uncovering hidden rooms feels genuinely satisfying because progression is tied closely to exploration rather than linear objectives. Every new biome introduces fresh environmental themes and gameplay challenges that keep the adventure consistently engaging. The environments themselves are one of the game’s strongest features. Players travel through frozen ruins, abandoned industrial facilities, corrupted alien landscapes, and mysterious underground structures that all feel distinct from one another. The world carries an almost dreamlike atmosphere, blending science fiction and fantasy into something strange and unsettling. Long stretches of quiet exploration allow the environments and soundtrack to create immersion without relying heavily on dialogue or cinematic storytelling. The game often feels lonely in the best possible way, emphasizing the Solar Champion’s isolation within a broken universe. Combat is straightforward but effective, focusing on careful timing and positioning rather than flashy combos. Players gradually unlock multiple weapons and tools that serve both offensive and traversal purposes. Swords, ranged weapons, and mobility abilities all contribute to progression while helping encounters remain varied throughout the campaign. Boss fights are especially memorable because they combine pattern recognition with platforming challenges, forcing players to adapt rather than simply overpower enemies through brute force. While the combat system may not be as mechanically deep as some of the genre’s biggest titles, it succeeds because it complements the game’s exploration-heavy structure. Movement and platforming also play a major role in the overall experience. As players acquire new traversal abilities, the world gradually opens up in rewarding ways that encourage experimentation and backtracking. Reaching hidden areas often requires combining movement skills with environmental awareness, making exploration feel interactive rather than passive. The sense of progression becomes especially satisfying during later portions of the game when previously unreachable paths suddenly become accessible through newly acquired powers. Visually, Adventure of Samsara embraces retro-inspired pixel art while maintaining a modern level of environmental detail and animation. The world is filled with vibrant lighting, atmospheric effects, and carefully designed landscapes that make every region feel visually unique. Character and enemy designs intentionally carry a simplistic retro quality that reflects the game’s Atari origins without feeling outdated. The art direction succeeds because it balances nostalgia with modern presentation rather than relying purely on imitation of older games. The soundtrack contributes heavily to the game’s identity as well. Ambient synth-heavy music and subtle environmental sounds create a calm but eerie atmosphere throughout the adventure. Instead of using nonstop high-energy tracks, the soundtrack often emphasizes loneliness and mystery, reinforcing the feeling of exploring an ancient world filled with forgotten dangers. The audio design works particularly well during exploration segments, where silence and atmosphere become just as important as combat. One of the most impressive aspects of Adventure of Samsara is how respectfully it modernizes the legacy of the original Adventure. Rather than directly copying old mechanics or recreating simplistic gameplay from the Atari era, the developers focus on preserving the spirit of exploration and hidden discovery that made the original title important in gaming history. References to the classic game appear naturally throughout the experience, rewarding longtime fans without alienating newcomers unfamiliar with Atari’s past. However, the game does have some rough edges. Movement and combat can occasionally feel stiff, especially during the early hours before major upgrades are unlocked. Certain enemy encounters become repetitive over time due to limited attack variety, and some boss battles feel less refined than others. Players looking for extremely fast-paced combat or highly technical mechanics may find the gameplay slower and more methodical than expected. The game prioritizes atmosphere and exploration over intense action, which may not appeal equally to every player. Pacing may also divide audiences depending on their preferences. Adventure of Samsara often encourages slow exploration and careful observation rather than constant combat or narrative progression. There are moments where players may spend extended periods simply wandering through environments searching for hidden paths or progression clues. For fans of atmospheric Metroidvanias, this deliberate pacing enhances immersion, but players expecting nonstop action may occasionally find the experience too restrained. Despite these minor flaws, Adventure of Samsara succeeds because of its strong world-building, rewarding exploration, and commitment to atmosphere. The game feels like a genuine passion project created by developers who understand both retro gaming history and modern exploration-driven design. Its mysterious world and interconnected environments consistently encourage players to continue searching for secrets and uncovering the truth behind the Solar Champion’s journey. Adventure of Samsara may not completely reinvent the Metroidvania genre, but it delivers a memorable and beautifully atmospheric adventure filled with rewarding exploration and thoughtful design. Its haunting setting, retro-inspired visuals, and strong sense of discovery make it a standout experience for players who enjoy immersive action-platformers built around curiosity and exploration. Adventure of Samsara me surpreendeu! Vale demais a experiência!
Estou amando o jogo! Simplesmente perfeito!
The original "Adventure" for Atari 2600 is legitimately one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. When I heard that Atari was giving us this follow-up after all these years, I was excited. How many times have I imagined what a modern Adventure could look like? Could play like? While I might not have gone the Metroidvania route (which Atari did with its Yars franchise recently), this game is pretty interesting. I enjoy the pixel art style and the overall sound design. The challenge is there but it feels fair. While I'm writing this review before I finish the game, I can say that I am very interested in seeing how this all plays out.
Adventure of Samsara is a great game, tough but full of detail and atmosphere. as a fan of the original adventure, one of the games I played the most on the Atari, it feels amazing to experience this franchise again after so long!
looks and plays great
Great little metroidvania, has some charm borrowed from the original prince of persia. Plays great on steam deck and gamehub on android
It's ok. It's not a bad game. It works. It's not a very good one either. Why release this on the same day as Silksong? Baffling. C tier game.
Combat is slow and clunky. Not for my taste :(
