Oh, it is a good Time to be a (Retro) Gamer. 2 Weeks ago i found the very first Computer Fantasy Game of my Life on Steam PHANTASIE MEMORIAL SET and many others. And now i this Game, remembering me of my first Console Game of my Life on Steam. You know ZELDA? Of course you know ZELDA, mostly everyone knows ZELDA. Everybody loves ZELDA, by the way i hate that italian plumber from the bottom of my heart, but thats another Story. ZELDA is one of the most loved Games ever and inspired many Games. And this is one of the newest. Welcome to ADVENTURE OF RIKKA: THE CURSED KINGDOM! Well, i´m shortening ADVENTURE OF RIKKA: THE CURSED KINGDOM to AOR:TCK. Makes it easier. ^^ AOR:TCK is an classical Action RPG in best ZELDA Tradition. The Main Part is solving Puzzles but you have of course to fight many Monsters and also Boss Monsters. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3226969594 The Story begins with a Storm. A Soldier is bringing you to the King, who needs your Help. Something Evil is returning after 100 Years and it is up to you to save the Kingdom from an old Curse. So what are you waiting for? AOR:TCK shows your Hero from above. In the Beginning you have just one Weapon, the well known first Weapon of most Games, the Sword. While you visit the Games Areas you will find usefull Weapons like Bows, Bombs and so much more. You can also raise stats like Damage or Health. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3226969834 Exploring the World you will find also Sidequests that will help you to get stronger. The World looks wonderfull Zeldalike and that goes also for the Sound. Retro at it´s best. The Combat System is typical Zeldalike and absolutly fluid. Clean moving and fighting without any sign of clipping. Well Done. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3226970196 What can i say? ADVENTURE OF RIKKA: THE CURSED KINGDOM is a wonderfull hommage of the first 3 Zeldas (NES/SNES). It feels like a younger Brother, also because it is not that long. But if you like ZELDA, you get this Vibes and you will like this, too. A big thanks to the DEV who kicked me into the cursed Kingdom, i enjoyed my stay very much. This is how a Hommage to a Legend should look alike. Well done! Thank you for reading. :-) [h1][url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/26335619-Adult-World-Gamers/] You like this Review? I was unable to get immersed in this one. I love Zelda-likes, but there are many games out there that feel too much like a devs first-game project and this is yet another example of that. It's just a little bit sparse and basic, and on top of that overly derivative. Another gripe for me was the lack of a map. Compound these factors and you are wandering around the same 'meh' locations repeatedly somewhat lost. It sucks to leave a negative rec when you are handed a free key (like mine) but the game certainly deserves some pushback. This is not a game of particularly high quality and I would not want someone to mistakenly waste their hard earned $ on this thinking that it may be a hidden gem. Rikka is a cool first project, but not something I would recommend to anyone.
Engaging, smart, secret-filled Zelda-like adventure. I like how in each section the player can see how many items are still to be discovered - this makes it much more rewarding to hunt for secrets. You will appreciate the ingenuity with which they were hidden! Dungeons are relatively short for the genre, but consistently smart and with interesting item use. I have to say that over the past years I tried many Zelda-likes on Steam and I returned almost all of them due to the lack of creativity and playability of these games. This one however is a keeper. One thing I learned from all the Zelda game attempts I've tried is how difficult and rare it is to actually make a good one!
Adventure of Rikka The Cursed Kingdom is a fun little adventure game in the style of oldschool 2D Zelda games that offers almost everything you'd want out of a game like this. The puzzles are tough but fair, the fighting system - albeit a tiny bit clunky - is exciting and surprisingly vast, incorporating many different items into its battles. The exploration is very rewarding and there's a plethora of optional content in the game, including a fishing minigame. The overall atmosphere is a bit more modern than what you'd be used to in a Zelda game but everything fits the game well. My only two critique points lie with the sound design and the overall polish at the current state of the game. But those two things are only minor gripes and the developer is eager to fix bugs and is open to suggestions on their discord. All in all I have to recommend this game as it's a really fun experience!
A small RPG with simple yet effective gameplay. Absolutely no guide on Steam BUT you can find let's play onlide if you know where to look (if you're ready to write a guide people will love you). The game is good, the puzzles are good too, but the challenge might lead you to some frustration. The good side is that when you dig in you easily spend a few hours to solve the mysteries.
Adventure of Rikka – The Cursed Kingdom is a charming throwback to the golden age of 2D action-adventure games, developed and published by Poorly Drawn Squid. It captures the familiar rhythm of exploring dungeons, solving puzzles, and collecting mystical items while unraveling the fate of a land cursed by an ancient calamity. The story unfolds in the Kingdom of Delheed, once peaceful but now ravaged by unnatural disasters—volcanic eruptions, storms, and poisoned waters. As Rikka, a lone adventurer drawn into the chaos, players embark on a journey to restore balance to the realm and uncover the secret behind its downfall. The narrative is simple yet effective, functioning as a framework that pushes exploration and discovery rather than dwelling on lengthy exposition. It channels the spirit of classic Zelda-like tales, where the joy lies in uncovering the world rather than being told about it. The heart of the experience lies in its gameplay loop, which combines action combat with puzzle-centric exploration. Movement and combat are intuitive and satisfyingly direct, with players wielding a sword and gradually acquiring new items such as the bow, bomb, fire wand, and grappling hook. Each tool opens new traversal opportunities, allowing for backtracking into previously inaccessible areas to uncover secrets or upgrades. This method of progressive exploration gives the game a strong sense of momentum, where curiosity is consistently rewarded. The world design is compact but layered, filled with hidden rooms, collectibles, and cleverly designed dungeons that challenge players to think as much as they fight. The seven major dungeons form the backbone of the adventure, each with its own thematic identity and boss encounter that demands pattern recognition, precision, and adaptability. Visually, the game delivers a nostalgic but polished pixel-art presentation. The environments evoke a vibrant yet melancholic tone, from serene forests and fiery mountains to eerie ruins corrupted by magic. Each location feels distinct, aided by small artistic details and a color palette that balances charm and atmosphere. The enemy and boss designs are varied, if not particularly complex, and contribute to the sense of adventure rather than merely populating the world. The accompanying soundtrack fits the setting perfectly, mixing tranquil melodies during exploration with energetic themes during battle. It is clear that Poorly Drawn Squid poured care into crafting an aesthetic that respects its inspirations while asserting its own personality. Where Adventure of Rikka shines most is in its pacing and sense of reward. The structure is lean and deliberate, ensuring that every dungeon or puzzle contributes to the player’s growth. The shard and stone upgrade system adds a satisfying layer of progression without overwhelming complexity, giving a tangible sense of improvement over time. Each new item or enhancement not only makes Rikka stronger but also deepens the possibilities for exploration, maintaining a natural gameplay flow. The balance of combat and puzzle solving keeps the experience engaging from start to finish, making it ideal for players who prefer substance through design rather than extensive dialogue or cinematic storytelling. That said, the game is not without its limitations. Its adherence to old-school design occasionally exposes modern frustrations, such as the lack of an in-game map, which can make navigation cumbersome in later stages. The sword’s attack range and enemy hitboxes sometimes feel unforgiving, and the difficulty curve can spike unexpectedly during certain encounters. These rough edges don’t ruin the experience but do remind players that this is a small-scale indie production with finite resources. Likewise, the story remains minimalist throughout; those hoping for a deep narrative or complex character arcs may find the emotional depth underdeveloped. However, the simplicity also allows the gameplay and exploration to take center stage, which seems to be the developer’s clear intent. Despite these flaws, Adventure of Rikka – The Cursed Kingdom succeeds in what it sets out to do: it delivers a heartfelt and finely crafted homage to the classics that defined a genre. It respects its roots while providing a coherent and rewarding adventure of its own. The combination of intuitive mechanics, creative dungeon design, and charming presentation makes it an enjoyable journey for both nostalgic players and newcomers seeking a more straightforward yet satisfying action-adventure. For those who miss the days when discovery and challenge were the driving forces of a game’s appeal, Rikka’s quest through the cursed kingdom offers a welcome reminder that the magic of exploration never fades—it simply waits to be rediscovered. Rating: 6/10
Fun little zelda-like with a very active dev in the official discord. Definitely recommended for a 4-5 hour playthrough.

If you want to enjoy puzzle solving and questing - then this is the game for you! Truely a fun game with that "retro"-feel to it!
