Ever enjoy the classic retro maze game "Pac-Man"? ..Okay, well not imagine a game similar to Pac-Man with not just 4 slow moving ghosts, but DOZENS of enemies that move much faster, that can blow themselves up to kill you, and that even move right through the walls! ..But hey you can shoot them at least to give you some very brief relief before they respawn and home right back in on you! ...Now you might have a good idea of what "Abstract Hell" is all about! If you want to see more and watch me dying horrible deaths to the mind blowing difficulty of this game, you can check out my "First Play on Launch Day!" Review video right HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y39Erl9XSD8&feature=youtu.be This game offers solid responsive controls, either with a keyboard or a controller This game also offers a very high challenge to even the best retro game players out there that will keep you on the edge of your toes every single second until you eventually die! ..And you WILL DIE.. the question is just "when" will you die? My score for this game is a very respectable 82% and it gets my RECOMMENDED approval! ..If you haven't yet checked out this developers other game BrickFest, be sure you check it out here as I still think it is one of the best Brick Breaker games available on the PC today! https://store.steampowered.com/app/845940/Brickfest/ - I would like to kindly thank the developer who provided me with a free evaluation key for his game that made this very review possible! ...Keep in mind however that free keys have never before and never will influence my overall score for any game!
Feels liek this was abandoned. last post was in january, the discussion post is virtually empty. there's no balance here. It'sd basically pac man with dual stick shooting, but there's WAY too many enemies to even begin to be fair. You only shoot so fast, and to top it off - this isn't liek traditonal pacman where you eat a pellet to make enemies vulnerable. instead, you just get lovely gates that only the enemy can pass through, and you can't - making the balancing even worse. every run is the same, you move backwards shooting as many as you can, until you eventually get painted into a wall, and die. there is no winning. But yea, I don't think the dev is even here anymore. avoid this one.
Picked up the game awhile ago, and put in an hour and here are my thoughts. The game's name is a good description of the game. It's hell. A twin-stick shooter of what Pac-Man might've been if he carried a gun and instead of ghosts, odd shaped things spawned instead. As it is described, the game plays as expected. You get overwhelmed. A bunch. At least the developer went all-in with this and I applaud them for the efforts behind the game. But -- ugh. I don't often find a game so thoroughly unenjoyable as this. The color scheme is a bit of an eyestrain, which doesn't help matters. The game feels like it is designed to punish you for even buying it and quickly becomes tedious and boring since you're doing to die lots. Even though I put an hour (and perhaps slightly more) into it, I came away feeling like this was more like a high school or college coding project that was slapped together just to prove you could understand your courseworks. Then there's the price. I have a feeling at $6.99 USD, many people will have the same feeling I did -- Hey this looks fun, let me try. Then the "no, just no" feeling after. I do feel like there is a segment of the population that would relish this game for the unforgiving level of challenge it has, but as a game for general audiences it doesn't work. I just can't recommend it. But, I know there's always someone out there that might be like "hey this is my cup of coffee, gimme!" so as always I will include my video playthrough so you can decide for yourself. Go check it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjcbaU6HMqs
This game is simple in concept, but playing it one time you realize it's hard to master. Your goal is to navigate the levels to collect all of the tokens without getting killed, or more like overrun by the enemies. The levels are designed so that if you do not plan out your path, you will quickly be overtaken and die before collecting them all. It can definitely be daunting the first few times you play, but as you learn the mechanics and enemy patterns, it becomes really fun and rewarding. Eventually you can get power ups, and as you accumulate more and more, you become more powerful to match the enemy fire power. The developer is also very open to feedback, and works on constantly improving the game, which is cool to see.
