About
As a reserved and unassuming university student in snow-bitten Hokkaido, the personal tragedy which visited Honoka Asakawa would lead to her experimentation in a magical art thought long-lost — blood magic. Unexpectedly able to visit the sealed world of Meiji-era Sapporo, Honoka's quickly taken under the wing of the cheerful and bright Lady Yasue, a powerful mage who's remained in this gilded cage for a century.
As their feelings for each other develop, the true repercussions of Honoka's first steps into the secret world of magic and mages are only just starting to play out, eventually leading to catastrophic consequences.

About as well produced as Studio Elan games normally are, with a really solid selection of music, background art and character sprites but the story here just kind of collapses in on itself too quickly and too substantially for me to come out of this game feeling positive. The first act i have no complaints with, it moves well and sets the stage and tone for a lot of events to follow in a way that's very engaging to read. act 2 things take a bit of a speed bump as it attempts a The Handmaiden-esque play with it's structure but without enough skill to be able to pace this type of story turn correctly, leaving some of it feeling monotonous. however that issue is a slight poke in comparison to the full on self destruction of baffling narrative choices that rear there head in the third act. any sense of tone is completely destroyed as it throws scenes of characters just hanging out and chatting right after making the reader witness how these people just destroyed the life of the main character and took away all they can from them. the VN fails to provide a reason for why you should continue to like most of these people as it continues to treat the main character like garbage (and not in a way that feels appropriate to the story, it just feels weirdly cruel and misguided) and acted like there was more of a moral greyness to this story than there actually is. it makes so many angering mistakes that range from just logistically stupid to straight up morally repugnant as it plays games with how it feels like treating the two leads grief and their lives and these issues all show up even worse in the final act that just has so many weird and questionable turns I felt like I was losing my mind. It ends nicely enough, sure, but at that point the damage had already been done. actually makes me so sad to write these words and click not recommend because I was genuinely really excited to read something darker from Studio Elan and especially so when it revealed itself as being about topics and themes that resonate so closely to me, but this just destroys all it's goodwill with such finality that It almost erases most of the love I had during it's first quarter. Such a shame.
Played this after finishing please, be happy on Xbox, Can thoroughly say I have enjoyed this visual novel, Studio elan has my respect, plus being able to feel upset for the characters proves a good storyline, I would recommend to anyone who would like a good story
what a good ass game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, there's so much here that I find really engaging, the way the protagonists depression is portrayed, all the great character interactions sprinkled throughout, the way the story shifts in a way I didn't expect coming in, there's just a lot to love about it. Its by no means the craziest or most complex narrative out there but what is there is really good and made me feel a lot of emotion, its overall just a really sweet and endearing artwork that you should definitely check out if you're a fan of the genre and are ok with some of the darker subject matter it tackles. the game, at least in my view also feels distinctly like an early-mid 2010's anime in a lot of ways that I can't quite place which may be part of why I connected to it so quickly and could also just be a jejune observation / complete fabrication on my part :p also although I didn't make use of those settings myself I think its really good that the devs added ways to disable visual and audio depictions of self harm for the sake of people who need that.
That was very good. I'm very happy for the epilogue.
Great mix of romance, depression and finding a purpose in life. Art and soundtrack are on point making it well worth the time and price. Definitely recommend. Personal 8/10
