This was certainly an interesting read. In a uniquely strange way. For one, this game isn't really focused on romance. YES, there ARE some romantic elements/words, but... That's not what the novel revolves around. (And yes, you can do the "platonic" thingy). The whole story is more focused about this "other world" and the end goal aka choice you have to make. First off, the soundtracks fit the settings really well. I enjoyed them. The backgrounds are really well drawn and I like the designs of the males. Achievements aren't hard at all! The game even comes with an indicator up above! So if you make a right/wrong/neutral choice? YOU'LL KNOW! Although I do understand that some people hate that and wish to suffer (it's a joke...): so guess what? You can make all your choices "final". Have fun! Okay since the main thing is the story: There are actually five routes. One isn't counted because it's much shorter than the others. The four guys all have similar dialogue (with a few changes here and there) and I did enjoy seeing the "costume change" in the end. So the choices you pick wont change much from route to route and once you memorize them, you know which one to pick right away. (The beginning choices you make will select a guy's route, so those DO change the outcome). Despite having a secret/shortest route... I felt that the "Secret Character" was the best one. I connected with him far more and sure we did things, but... He constantly stood out to me. Even in the end...
He is the only one who goes through a character change/ becomes more understanding.
So to me his route is... The Best Ending. It may be just me (or it was intentional) but the other four guys are rather possessive and even go as far as to call you
pet.
Like I said, if their personalities are meant to be this way... Then it would be awesome to get more of the story/world building. Because it really was mysterious and interesting! However the whole thing is like I said: less about romance/connections and more about... The end goal/result. Well I liked it and it was a different feel for a VN! Thank you!!! :) :D (<3 for
Noht
)
This is a strange one. On one hand, I can't say I didn't enjoy it at all, but on the other - I can't bring myself to recommend it, because the game doesn't deliver what it seems to be promising at all. To start with the good stuff: - It's beautifully drawn and very pleasant to loot at. - It has lovely music - and for the length of the game surprisingly wide variety of it. Next, here are the things I'm mostly meh about: - The writing wasn't bad, but it didn't really work for me. The narrative starts off as wistful and melancholic, and then you meet all those whimsical characters who somehow turn out to be very plain as soon as you start talking to them. Like, you were whisked into a dream realm, wandered through the mystical grove to the moonlit meadow, and there you met him: your neighbor Fred, walking his dog (but in a slightly cryptic manner). Additionally I didn't feel like characters have any real distinction in their writing and dialogue - though it turns out that was a part of a much bigger issue I'll touch upon later. - The story itself felt not very well paced. You start off spending the first third of the game going about your day making a lot of fairly inconsequential choices: read or play the game, follow the path or go into the woods. As it turns out those determine which character's route you land on, but, yeah, more on that later. Then you get a very brief exposition and option to pursue romance, and then suddenly you are supposed to make some bigger-than-life choices. The end. It's like as if the entirety of the first book of Lord of the Rings were about Frodo doing his hobbit things in Shire, the second one was about the meeting in Rivendell, and then the third was about literally everything else that happened after that. I think a story describing something this grand could be successfully told in an hour-long game, but not like that. - The romance is, uh, weird. The main four characters start to touch you immediately (in the situation you seemingly cannot escape), then quite literally about an hour after you met they try to kiss you, and your options are either to push them away (no romance) or let them (yes romance). I mean, call me a buzzkill but I believe that in the year of our lord 2024 one shouldn't have to physically push away a mysterious fantasy man to stop unwanted advances. And finally, the reason for this negative review: - The four main LIs are - literally - the same character. Seriously. Apart from the names being different in each of their respective routes, there are maybe a couple of unique lines for each. I'm not trying to say that they are too similar, or generic, or follow the same archetype, or whatever. I'm pretty sure all four routes literally use the same lines with variable for the character's name from start to finish. So you basically have to only choose which one's sprite you like better, there is no reason to finish routes for other three. I often see people complain about lack of unique content in character routes, but, hey, this is a new low. There is a 'secret' fifth route that has a different final climactic part, but even there you get a bunch of reused narration and dialogue lines. - And as an extra little nitpick: despite text being exactly the same, you cannot skip it in a different route.
Looks great!
Wow, what a gem of a visual novel! I anticipated the typical Otome experience, but what I got instead is a surprisingly deep and unpredictable story set in a truly enchanting world filled with equally enchanting inhabitants. And what an emotional rollercoaster this game is! I am still grappling with what it made me do. Ness, I love you. If you somehow can read this, please forgive me! One of the best visual novels I have played to date! PS: Steam says this game is not compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina or higher but I had not problems playing on macOS 14.3.1 Sonoma.
I had the absolute pleasure of testing Banishing You before release, and it was such a fun experience. Wholesome? Check. A fun and intriguing story? Check. Gorgeous art? Double check. The game starts off nice and slow, but stick with it, because the branching paths lead to some fantastic endings. The story has a nice mix of humor and mystery, and the romance is just the right level of cheesy. But the main highlight of course is NOHT. Mysterious, sexy, and living in my head rent-free. 10/10, would get banished again.
Sadly it's very boring.
A truly magical, almost ethereal visual novel about finding your own strength along with some romance, with beautiful music and a simple, enchanting art style. Not one to be missed.
1. Beautiful, Mesmerizing Art and Gorgeous Characters 2. Beautiful music 3. Beautiful story and very beautiful writing 4. There are five romance paths. 5. I think Lesan's route is amazing if you do what he says and I'm not saying that in a weird way you'll figure it out no spoilers. 6. There is a villain character, a beautiful and nice character, a glamorous character, a Prince Charming type character, and I don't know how to describe the other one. I hope you buy this game and support this developer. I'm in tears, what a beautiful and brief journey in one playthrough, and you can make your playthrough however you want bad, good, fearful, or brave, etc... 7. Complete game with achievements that are satsifying and a brief but a fanciful, fairytale otome that deserves a place with one of the best of its kind! Recommended: TashioxAlice, Dandelion, the other one by the same developer about dolls (forgot name), and Little Goody Two Shoes, and the Music is dead (game about rock singers)
