Cute and artistically creative, Newt One is very rough around the edges. It is a combatless 3d platformer collectathon with a bright cartoony aesthetic, visually a vibrant assault on the eyes with colour clashes all over the place. Cutscenes are a slideshow and I found the text for them was misaligned. There are four worlds with six levels each with a goal to ‘awaken’ the world - to do this you walk and jump around the level touching platforms and objects to bring the colour back to the world. There are a few ‘powerups’ you can find including: wings to float further, drums that freeze water and a wand that will automatically colour nearby objects without being too close to them. There isn’t any consequences with gameplay as there’s no enemies to dodge and if you fall you just respawn on the nearest platform. The game plays very slow and the controls feel loose. The store page claims ‘Full controller support’ - I could not find controller options nor would the game respond to controller input. The game description also brags ‘154 Achievement Badges’ but not a single one of those has made it as integrated Steam features. This game might be alright for younger audiences but personally I found it very boring. I liked playing the game when I had the ‘wand’ but without it trying to 100% a level was too tedious.
The game does not have any controller support despite being marked as full controller support on the Steam Store page and on an update back in 2019 when the game was in Early Access. It's out of Early Access now and this issue is still not fixed, and the devs have not commented on this lack of controller support since 2019. I cannot recommend it in good faith as it stands.
Lies about having controller support and slippery movement. Really like the look of the game and the music theme but its just not fun in the slightest.
One level complete, but between the lack of controller support (the 3D platforming equivalent of crimes against humanity) and absolutely ATROCIOUS movement physics akin to greasing a lead brick and letting it bounce around the nearest wooden floor, I can already tell this will be a miserable time. A mega bummer considering the beautifully saccharine, Japanese-inspired aesthetic, especially since it gives me Iglooghost cover art vibes (i.e. Neo Wax Bloom), but unlike Seamus and his phenomenal music, there's no polish or complexity to be had.
this game is so bland and not enjoyable at all, overall this is one of the games ever made ⠄⠂⠄⠐⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⢀⣠⣶⣶⣿⣿⣿⣷⣶⣶⣤⣀⡀⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠂⠄⠐⠄⠄⠂⠄⠐⠄ ⠄⠐⠈⠄⠄⠄⠄⣀⣴⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⢿⣿⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⣦⡀⠄⠄⠄⠄⠁⢀⠈⠄⠈⠄⡀ ⠐⠄⠄⠄⠄⢀⣴⣿⣿⡿⣿⢽⣾⣽⢿⣺⡯⣷⣻⣽⣻⣟⣿⣿⣿⣿⣦⡀⠄⠄⠄⠄⡀⠐⠈⠄⠄ ⠄⠄⠄⠄⢀⣾⣿⣿⢿⡽⡯⣿⢾⣟⣿⣳⢿⡽⣾⣺⣳⣻⣺⣽⣻⡿⣿⣿⣦⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠂ ⠄⠄⠄⠄⣿⣿⣿⣯⢿⣽⣻⣽⣿⣿⣯⣿⣿⣿⣷⣻⢮⣗⡯⣞⡾⡹⡵⣻⣿⣇⠄⠄⠄⠂⠄⠄⠠ ⠄⠄⠄⣸⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⡾⣳⢿⢿⢿⠿⠿⠟⠟⠟⠿⣯⡾⣝⣗⣯⢪⢎⢗⣯⣿⣇⠄⠄⠄⠄⢀⠄ ⠄⠄⠄⠋⠉⠁⠑⠁⢉⣁⡁⠁⠁⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⢉⢻⢽⣞⢾⣕⢕⢝⢎⣿⣿⡀⠄⠄⠄⠄⢀ ⠄⠄⠄⡧⠠⡀⠐⠂⣸⣿⢿⢔⢔⢤⢈⠡⡱⣩⢤⢴⣞⣾⣽⢾⣽⣺⡕⡕⡕⡽⣿⣿⠟⢶⠄⠄⠄ ⠄⠄⠄⣿⡳⡄⡢⡂⣿⣿⢯⣫⢗⣽⣳⡣⣗⢯⣟⣿⣿⢿⡽⣳⢗⡷⣻⡎⢎⢎⣿⡇⠻⣦⠃⠄⠄ ⠄⠄⠄⡿⡝⡜⣜⣬⣿⣿⣿⣷⣯⢺⠻⡻⣜⢔⠡⢓⢝⢕⢏⢗⢏⢯⡳⡝⡸⡸⣸⣧⡀⣹⣠⠄⠄ ⠄⠄⠄⣇⢪⢎⡧⡛⠛⠋⠋⠉⠙⣨⣮⣦⢅⡃⠇⡕⡌⡪⡨⢸⢨⢣⠫⡨⢪⢸⠰⣿⣇⣾⡞⠄⠄ ⠄⠄⠄⢑⡕⡵⡻⣕⠄⠄⠄⠔⡜⡗⡟⣟⢿⢮⢆⡑⢕⣕⢎⢮⡪⡎⡪⡐⢅⢇⢣⠹⡛⣿⡅⠄⠄ ⠄⠄⠄⢸⢎⠪⡊⣄⣰⣰⣵⣕⣮⣢⣳⡸⡨⠪⡨⠂⠄⠑⢏⠗⢍⠪⡢⢣⢃⠪⡂⣹⣽⣿⣷⡄⠄ ⠄⠄⠄⡸⠐⠝⠋⠃⠡⡕⠬⠎⠬⠩⠱⢙⣘⣑⣁⡈⠄⠄⡕⢌⢊⢪⠸⡘⡜⢌⠢⣸⣾⢿⣿⣿⡀ ⠄⠄⠄⡎⣐⠲⢒⢚⢛⢛⢛⢛⠛⠝⡋⡫⢉⠪⡱⠡⠄⠠⢣⢑⠱⡨⡊⡎⢜⢐⠅⢼⡾⣟⣿⣿⣷ ⠄⠄⣠⡃⡢⠨⢀⢂⢐⢐⢄⠑⠌⢌⢂⠢⠡⡑⡘⢌⠠⡘⡌⢎⠜⡌⢎⠜⡌⠢⠨⡸⣿⡽⣿⣿⣿ ⢴⠋⠁⡢⡑⡨⢐⢐⢌⠢⣂⢣⠩⡂⡢⡑⡑⡌⢜⠰⡨⢪⢘⠔⡱⢘⠔⡑⠨⢈⠐⢼⡷⣿⣻⢷⢯ ⠂⠄⠄⡢⡃⡢⢊⢔⢢⠣⡪⡢⢣⠪⡢⡑⡕⡜⡜⡌⢎⢢⠱⠨⡂⡑⠨⠄⠁⡂⡨⣺⡽⡯⡫⠣⠡ ⠄⠄⣰⡸⠐⠌⠆⢇⠎⡎⢎⢎⢎⢎⢎⢎⠎⡎⡪⠘⠌⠂⠁⠁⠄⢀⠄⢄⢢⢚⢮⢏⠞⡨⢂⠕⠉ ⡀⢀⡯⡃⡌⠈⠈⠄⠄⠈⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠂⠁⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⢄⢂⢢⢱⢱⢱⠱⢡⢑⠌⢂⠡⠠⠡ ⣀⡸⠨⢂⠌⡊⢄⢂⠠⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⢀⠠⢐⢨⣘⢔⢵⠱⡃⡃⡕⡸⠐⡁⠌⡐⡨⠨⢊ ⢣⢎⠨⠄⠄⠨⢊⢪⢪⡫⡪⡊⡐⡐⡐⡌⡬⡪⡪⣎⢗⡕⡎⡣⠃⢅⠊⠆⠡⠠⡁⠢⡑⡐⢌⢌⠢ ⡎⡎⠄⠈⠄⠡⢂⠂⡕⡕⡕⠕⢌⢌⢢⢱⢸⡸⣪⢮⡣⡓⠌⠠⢑⠡⢈⠌⢌⢂⠪⠨⡂⣊⠢⡢⢣
I feel like the game is supposed to be a relaxing time waster, but how can one relax when the controls make you so angry!Even if the controls were perfect, it is still a bit...dull.
Extremely basic platformer with floating fairy like character. Gameplay consist of painting tiles by hovering above them or touching some flowers and trees. Small creatures appear forming stairs that can be jumped on leading to higher platforms. Visuals are shocking but even dialogs are misaligned. Clunky interface with weird controls, press specific button on keyboard assigned for each action in the menu. I had no idea how I got this game... terrible!
underrated gem i got this from a humble bundle back in 2023, and i'm so glad i redeemed it BECAUSE THIS GAME IS SO SATISFYING, IT ITCHES WHATEVER I HAVE
Its a rather cozy, relaxing, non-violent (no combat / enemies) musical 3d platformer collectathon. I got it because it reminded me of the N64 platformers, with the overworld serving as a hub to the other levels, plus the low-poly graphic style is one of my favorites, and it didn't disappoint. It has a nice twist on the collectathon genre - you don't need to gather thousands of items scattered all over the world, instead, every single element, be it an animal, plant or even the ground itself, is gray and lifeless. Then, when you bump into them or use your abilities near them, they recover their vibrant colors and play a small musical tune, which compliments quite nicely the dynamic background music, making it sound even better. The only bug I ran into, is that one of the owls in one of the levels didnt visually change color, but still counted successfully for the ingame completion % anyways. On the negative side, controller support doesn't work, and the movement is quite slippery, this makes some of the jumps in later levels much harder than they should be, which can obviously add some frustration, specially since the entire game consists of floating islands and the small bridges connecting them. Still, despite the controls, I can easily recommend it.
5/10 nice short little game NO CONTROLLER SUPPORT!! awful unchangeable default controls
