Being new to the genre is probably the reason I enjoyed this one, flaws and all. The music is good and that final credits song (the good ending) goes pretty hard, but that ends up being negatively balanced with incredibly short looping, that will drive you insane. The music had this sense of fantasy and adventure, which never sounded too dark, which felt thematic to the game. Character models look goofy and environments are a bit lackluster, but the music somehow made it feel like this whimsical adventure. Then there's the gameplay; I thought the mechanics were interesting enough, and the various weapon types all feel different. But once you experience it, there isn't a whole lot that stands out. All the weapons feel the same, just in 3 categories: sword, lance, and broadsword. There was some variation like some had fire enhancements or poison, but you'd tend to find something stronger so there never was much time to experiment. The magic was interesting but just like the weapons, it felt held back. Lastly the difficulty. I don't think I'm very good at these games. After ~82 hours, I got all achievements including the no hit bosses. The game felt fair, but I think I cheesed it a bit because I would find myself grinding to fill out my item list. With that being said, the DLC difficulty SUCKED. It skyrocketed out of nowhere, it was borderline unfair. Boss mechanics felt cheap and I really didn't want to continue. Of course you feel the sense of accomplishment when you finally beat them, but it felt more aggravating than anything. If I disliked this I wouldn't have put as much time as I did. Looks like Neo Popcorn is now Orange Popcorn. I like the original name better. Apparently HunterX does everything better. Let's see how that goes.
Love it on Switch so I doubled down here on Steam. Here to negate the negative reviews lol
he jugat a molts metroidvanies... aquest és; BO
I really enjoyed this game! It's a lot of fun and highly addictive. It's one of those cases where as soon as you finish your first playthrough, you begin the next without hesitation. I'm not a huge fan of the graphical style, but it is far from bad. First impressions are lacklustre, though you are hooked soon enough. If they added more DLC and items I'd still be playing it tbh. The price is just about right. A solid 7/10.
I am still in the process of doing my run of this game and its a good mix of fantasy and dark themes. Mixing hand to hand and weapon styles is a good mix and using a souls like battle system makes you always stay on your toes as you dodge and avoid attacks.
Incredible artificial difficulty, enemies are pretty basic but just hit hard, not a fan of how the skill tree works, weapon upgrades are hugely limited so worthless upgrading anything but end game gear and I really can't be bothered to finish it. When a game starts to feel like a slog, the fun stops As a metroidvania enjoyer; buy on massive discount and ignore free dlc or just save yourself the time and play something else
