It's Descent.
Excellent game, the mechanics and visual design are on point. The weapons are some of the most satisfying that I've used in shooters, they look and sound awesome, The design of the particles and lights in this game is amazing, and really makes it a treat for the eyes. At times, when battling numerous enemies who are all firing various lasers and plasma orbs at you, it feels like you're flying through the middle of a beautiful and deadly fireworks display. The environments are very stylish, they have a surreal structure and appearance, very neon, nice colors. The level design is good, levels are never cramped or too big, and the feel of the space is vary satisfying. Great psychedelic vibes. The game runs well and the developer has included many options in the settings that I'm very grateful for, such as the ability to put FOV up to 140, which looks awesome. Also there is a custom difficulty setting where the player can fine tune health, enemies aggro behaviour, weapons behaviour and more, this greatly adds to the replayablity of the game. Control customisation is also very well designed. Another clever design choice is to have physical power lines in the levels that link the doors and the cards that player needs in order to open them. This avoids that wondering around looking for keys that FPS's are sometimes prone to and keeps the action flowing. You just follow the blue line and it will either take you to the blue key on one end or the blue door on the other. Lastly, the enemy design is very good, there is a good variety and each one will challenge your evasion and reaction skills in a different way. 10/10
Wow, that was a surprisingly refreshing 6DOF. It's a series of 24 short and challanging levels, that get an interesting spin every now and then. After each level you get some experience, level up which gives you better stats and new weapons. This is where the game shines most, the weapons are great. Some weapons are your standard plasmas and lasers, but later you get some crazy chain guns, a chainsaw, turrets, a very satisfying minigun and something called "Missile Massacre" which is exactly what you think it is. I'm kinda surprised that the game only has so few reviews, I think it's definetely worth a playthrough. Time to finish: 3,1 hours
If you liked overload/decent you will like this, controls and movement feel great, music/graphics are ok not bad - nicely stylised though. could use some more level size/complexity and visual distinction within each level section to break up the "sameness" but great overall if you like this type of game
Nice 6DOF shooter with tight controls and a unique visual style. Runs well on Linux. Full HOTAS/HOSAS support; having fun with my dual VKB Gladiator setup. If you like 6DOF games at all you can't go wrong with this one.
A very well crafted game. The combat is satisfying, and the speed is great. If you are an experienced 6-dof player you will breeze through the mazes.I like how the developer solved the 'where do I need to go with this key' by having the markers on the walls, so no guidebot is needed.
Zerograve is a light romp of a 6DOF shooter. It's comfort food for Descent oldheads, with little of its own identity. There's enough creativity in the weapon, enemy, and level design to keep play fresh, but it never becomes especially memorable. That plus the brief runtime is enough to ensure it doesn't overstay its welcome. While Zerograve is pretty inessential, its fundamentals are strong - I'm curious what this developer could do with a more ambitious take on the subgenre. 6/10
Yeah so it's a 6DOF game. But... - movement feels jerky and janky, there's little weight and inertia to your movement and aiming, resulting in an unpleasant experience - the environment is montonous, and samey, and repetitive, and... The most change you'll see is tinting color changing from, say, blue to purple, sometimes mid-texture - weapons are drip fed to the extreme, and you can only carry two sets of primary+secondary
A very streamlined 6DoF shooter with bite-sized levels. It has decent hotas and dual stick support. There are no in-level saves but as I said the levels are largely short enough I didn't miss them. You can only carry two primary weapons with unlimited ammo and two secondaries with a limited ammo pool, you unlock everything by getting "tech points" either by killing enemy drones or retrieving orbs scattered through the levels. You can also unlock two upgrade slots for things like enhanced shields or better fire rate. Despite the streamlined aesthetics it does have a bit of a sense of humor, saying more would be a spoiler.
