I will start by saying, I never play top down or twin stick shooters, I have never been a console fan. Now with that said, this game was a very pleasant surprise, Zcrew runs very nice for me on a RX 5500 XT, very smooth game play. I don't know where people are talking about optimization problems. Bugs: The game came out on Dec 17th, not even a month old, Only bug I have encountered is some times when returning to the lobby the game locks but not the whole PC but still requires hard reboot to get out of it. ( hopefully gets fixed soon ) There are 2 classes to start and 2 to unlock later, all classes are unique and feel different. During missions you collect money, crafting resources and blueprints, these are for crafting new and better weapons / attachments. I really like the amount of upgrades for the characters and their weapons, hope this keeps expanding but plenty is there for a early access game not even month old. I don't ever really write reviews but I thought it was needed for this game, its a very fun co op game and it offers plenty of challenge for 2 people. I been having blast but don't buy a twin stick shooter and expect 1000 hours of gameplay before your bored and leave bad review, that just makes u the fool.
Bought it for 4 euros, wasn't expecting much after reading the reviews but thought it could be okay-ish, and I was STILL disapointed. Refund requested. Where to start ? - Bad translation, terrible tutorial where text moves so fast I could hardly read it, and I'm a fast reader. - Cannot configure the controls prior to the first gameplay phase, and cannot pause the game to do so. - Un-intuitive interface. - Much uglier than it looks on videos and screenshots. - And most importantly, incredibly boring. Boring, yeah. You have VERY limited ammo. Yep, you read that right, very limited ammo in a twin stick shooter. Sure, there are some ammo pickups, but not nearly enough to be useful. You are better off NOT shooting zombies between objectives to conserve ammo for those. Talking about objectives, I have yet to see anything ineresting (and I won't, I'm not launching that game ever again). It's "go there", and if you're shooting zombies on the way, "hurry to the objective !". Once there, you are asked to... Shoot zombies. Apparently I wasn't shooting them in the right place, this other, copy-pasted pool of sludge is much more important to defend than the previous one. Or you're asked to hold a position that might have a tent or some sort of makeshift camp, but might also be a simple circle drawn on the ground for no apparent reason. After you've done a few of those objectives, you complete the level. Why, how ? No idea. Then next level starts, which is exactly the same thing. Get there, hold the meaningless circle, kill zombies but in the right place. Third level lets you evacuate by means of helicopter at the end, back to base, enjoy a few more levels if you can figure what to do with those. That is, if you manage to board the helicopter, which has no collision, neither for you nor the zombies so they can run through it to attack you while you're trying to figure if you're onboard. Oh, and there are apparently some kind of in-mission upgrades to "buy" through points, but I couldn't do it once I had finished the tutorial. Permanent upgrades ? Apparently they do exist, if you rince and repeat enough of this boring process long enough to gather materials to craft them. I'm not gonna try. Snail games has a reputation for really bad games, and I can see why. It's entirely deserved. Obviously, not recommended.
Honestly while it doesn't seem bad, its just so clunkly that its not very fun. Lotta good ideas but yeah execution is pretty lacking as it is.
Zcrew is a mixed bag for me. There are times I feel Zcrew is trying to be some kind of Helldivers mixed with zombies. The problem is it never even comes close to the fun of that game. The characters, environments, and on screen action graphics are good, and the sound of the weapons have actually been one of the standout highlights in my opinion. As an online co-op, I couldn't tell you anything about it ... because there is NO ONE playing! Well, there is one playing it. It would be nice to try it out though since I can tell it would benefit from a team. You can tell it was intended for co-op by some of the battles you have to take on from all sides. Gameplay in the solo realm has been somewhat fun but lacking. I don't have a problem with character movement. Seems a tad bit slippery, and i do mean a tad, but still works just fine. There are times you wonder if it will ever pick up the pace, and then you get bombarded by mutated monstrosities that take everything you can throw at them. Interface decisions are one of the biggest head scratchers for me. For some reason, the dev team decided to make it really up close third person while in your headquarters area for a game that is an isometric twin-stick shooter. It look nice, but feels odd and clunky. It becomes difficult trying to figure out what to do, as well. The mission menus are anything but intuitive. Also, you apparently have to upgrade in one area and wander around to discover you must incorporate them to your character in another area. They should stay full top-down isometric and do away with this awkward third person area. I am currently working to level up and unlock abilities and make new weapon purchases. I know this is an early release and I was willing to give to the cause of what I am hoping is a hardworking new dev team. I am going to put some more time in and re-edit this review if things change in the future. The mixed bag is that I want this to be good, but it isn't yet. I am currently marking thumbs down until I can see improvements. However, it is good enough to support for the money being asked for in early access. You can tell much time has gone into it so far.
I think this is still kind of pre-release, so the final product may be much different... and I really hope it does end up so. It's very unpolished and the movement/physics are wonky as hell. Does not stack up to Helldivers or other games like that. The knock-down mechanic seems like utter BS and is basically an automatic death sentence. The game is 50% off right now and, I suppose, I spent more time playing it (~2 hours) than I would have gotten for $5 for most other sources of entertainment, but if you're looking for anything beyond a "$5 game" then I would look elsewhere unless this really gets polished up before official release.
I don't know what, but something wrong with this shooter. You have weapons, you have enemies, but no action, no interesting situations, interesting enemies. I did run it few times, but maximum - 2 fights and game boring me( After developer response I tried it once more. All in all - the same. And found some bugs, like broken mission, character spawned in object after death. After the mission 10 - not enought ammo on missions. For all classes. Purple and blue loot dissappered very fast. In a battle no a time for looting, and some major loot dissappeared and it's sad. The system sayed - new weapons, but no new weapons in the bench. It confused me. I think icons 1 and 3 classes need change. The icon aim better for the sniper than just usual soldier. And just soldier will be better with the icon - 3 bullets. 1/3 missions causes bug - a camera move to a random point and thats all. It means need close the game throught alt+f4 wait some time and start again. Mission 22 impossible even on easy level.
This game fking sucks. Bad coop experience. No loot sharing. FPS locks at 50 when in coop for no fking reason.
Updated Review for November 2021 So I've given the game another chance, picked it up on a sale recently nearly 1 year after i bought it originally. I can say that it has come very far from its release. Most of my concerns i wrote have been fixed. Gone is the weird blur that made you feel uncomfortable, finally can you enjoy the decent looking graphics and environments. Explosions especially are looking great. Hit feedback has also gotten much better and they implemented gore which is a must have if you kill zombies and bug mutants. Sprinting and movement is much faster, and your stamina bar is much higher. So you can finally now evade and run to your objectives in time. Also your health feels better, you arent so easily one shotet , but i still dont like the fact that most enemies can hit you proned or stun lock you. (especially zombies do that even the basic ones) This fact makes close combat or melee attacks(warrior class is mostly affected) very annoying, i feel that dogs and later other enemies that can knock you down is enough, and normal enemies should need to hit you 3+ times to prone you. I've completed all missions that are available so far Solo, so the game is not a coop must. Also the enemy count has gotten up, which feels much better and the combat more intense, if you play on hard it cranks up enemy count to 11. But the enemy spawning behind you at cleared areas feels terrible, it makes tactical retreats often impossible. You run away from a horde and just back to another horde that just spawned behind you, i think this spawning system should be reworked and cleared areas should stay empty for at least 3-5 minutes. You still need to run to the helicopter in every mission, but the timer high enough and you can run fast and for a long time, so its fine i guess. I dont really like the helicopter extraction i wish i would just end the mission after finishing the last objective, but i would recommend putting in a helicopter call button to every mission, some of them have it, but most dont. Then you can choose if you still wanna explore or finish the mission, and arent forced to run to the extraction. Loot is interesting if not a bit basic, most weapon enhancements are vertical progression where you get for example better and better magazines that increase some base stats, just with higher numbers. But what i like is the Chip system, which you can get by completing the new mech missions, you can wear 6 chips on every weapon and the grant you interesting buffs. Those 2 systems are fine to upgrade your weapon but i hope they get more elaborate and we get much more Chips to wear. Things like ammo types, switchable fire rate, upgradeable and different sidearms or even a secondary main weapon would be perfect. The loot boxes that can drop rare items is also a good addition, now we need also pylons that give you temporary buffs. Every class has its own skill tree and active and passives skills. I think most are fun and interesting and serve a good role if you play as a team. I just hope we can exchange actives and passives later, get more choices, and maybe a bigger skill tree. Walking animation really needs and overhaul, when you are in the base in 3rd person its very obvious how bad it is, the upper and lower body arent in sync and very stiff. In the base we can see cybernetics and big guns like the flamethrower and minigun, i hope we can choose them in a loadout. Maybe for a new class. And cybernetics to upgrade our classes even further. The new Mech system/missions are interesting, the mech gameplay feels good and is fun to play with, but the mission is very boring, it much rather would play in open maps and do objectives with them. It also needs higher hit points, and it should become customizable. The weapons we got are fine and the upgrade to them feel somewhat meaningful, now we just need more of them. There are just too few choices in each category, and i think there should be even more, maybe special weapons like energy, plasma, explosives ect. its a zombie/bug alien mutant game, so the devs could go wild. Overall i would say the game is finally worth playing now, it has a good amount of content and is a neat twin stick/ lite Arpg shooter, that can be played solo or coop. There are so many good concepts in the game, now it just needs more content of what it already got. More weapons, more gadgets more skills, more customization. And i hope we get an endless grinding system like greater rifts from diablo later on. The game had an really bad launch but now i would say its in a promising state and has gotten a lot of patches/content and wasnt abandoned like many other EA titles. My old review: an interesting idea and a good foundation, BUT it feels so barren and very un polished, i know its an Early Access. But my eyes literally hurt now because the image is so blurry even on the highest settings that i cant continue to play. Stamina bar for sprinting should be much higher and sprinting should actually be sprinting not jogging, especially because at the end of every mission they want you to run to a helicopter in a time limit, sorry but that design and repetition is retarded. The animations of your abilities look very bland and boring and clunky. The ammo count for shotguns is too low. Its a twin stick/Arpg shooter where you kill zombies and bugs, but no gore or blood? it feels so bad, as if my abilities and guns have no impact. The Players health should be much higher and there should be much more enemies, the first missions feel so lifeless and boring, and while you pick up mission objectives, enemies just spawn 5 meters from you and interrupt you nonestop, such a weird design, at least make them come from afar and in waves or something. Put crates with loot drops and enemies/harder enemies with loot drops , its one of the most important ways to keep me playing hundreds if not thousands of hours in such a game. Dont only make everything blueprint based and make materials drop from enemies and loot boxes. I feel very reminded of Helldivers, so if i want to scratch that itch its a much better solution, but i really hope ZCrew can make their own type of game, i think it should be much more solo oriented , BECAUSE listen indie developers, you gonna kill your first game if you make it mainly online coop oriented, even big studios often struggle with a playerbase, so stop focus on multiplayer, your game will fail because no playerbase-> unplayable, make the game easy soloable and coop optional, otherwise you gonna have a very bad time. I would recommend make the gameplay much more loot oriented and soloable thats enough to establish a solid dedicated playerbase who loves to grind away, and then implement more content and polish, maybe an more elaborate skill tree for each class so they can play solo if they choose so.
I really don't know why this game is getting such bad reviews. there is no gotcha or pay to advance, it's just a fun bare bones top down shooter that is enjoyable to play, very basic but has some good stuff to it. for the price they are asking ,they are prcaically giving this game away. it's worth it.
scam broken trash. lets sue snail games for fraud with all of their games.
