Nice medium-sized Metroidvania. Beat it on release. Original protagonist and movement system. Recommended!
The highlight of Zappling Bygone is that it tries some unique and interesting things and manages to pull them off pretty well despite being pretty basic and on the easy side. For example one of the first abilities the player unlocks is wall climbing which unlocks the map in an interesting way. It's quite open too, you can go beat bosses in any order which can make certain fights or areas harder or easier depending on where you go (and which abilities you obtain) first. It also has some customisation to the character allowing you to tweak the player character to suit your playstile to a degree. The downside to all this is that backtracking is kinda annoying since you can't teleport between save stations, only designated warp points and there is far to few of them. The mechanics were a bit rough for me too, with jumping feeling a bit floaty and contact damage meaning that it was easy to take a double hit from an enemy :/ It's also a bit directionless, the game doesn't really guide you in any way through the world so it can take a moment to figure out where you should be going sometimes. This is especially annoying with such limited fast travel. However, given how short and easy the game is, these won't be as bothersoime as they would in a bigger title. I recommend getting this on a sale, it's a fun short game play through for fans of the genre :)
kindah boring to me for 10 mins you just hit some green balls and rats and plants, until you discover a big rat boss. but nothing was exciting or intuitive.
B-Tier Metroidvania that is slightly rough around the edges
This is a fairly short 4-5 hour game but it has a good story that is told through a combination of unlockable comic-style panels and lore notes that you can find once you add more personalities to your hivemind. Boss fights were pretty easy overall with well-telegraphed attacks and a generous amount of time to react to them. There are numerous opportunities to heal mid-battle. There are a few chase sequences but they aren't that difficult either. For a solo dev project, this is really impressive. However, there are sometimes a few bugs that will require a game restart to resolve. It only happened to me twice and I only had to repeat about 4 minutes of content so it isn't that big of a deal.
какая же ♥♥♥♥♥
Pretty uniq, grotesque MV
It's fine. - Controls like absolute ♥♥♥♥ - Not one of the hitboxes in the entire game is where it should be - Its design very disjointed and pretty nonsensical - Narrative push is limited and that makes the world uninteresting - Exploration is deeply unrewarding as the currency is almost totally useless, the mutations mostly come with drawbacks that outweigh their benefits, and the skulls don't change gameplay much at all All this makes it a fairly difficult game, but not because it's hard to figure out or because you're bad, it's just not that well made. Like a sticky Rubik's cube made of pieces from 27 different cubes. But its fine.
Zapling Bygone is a puzzle game where you defeat your enemies as you steal their abilities by wearing their skulls as armour. Graphics- Pixels Soundtrack- Okay Audience- kids and Teenagers Difficulty- It's not too difficult to get the hang of Story- Alright story Game time- Okay length Price- Its a expensive for what it is 5/10
Honestly, this was quite a boring and unimpressive game, there were no moments where I felt I was truly having fun, still did 100% though. The worst thing about it is the map, barely has any markers, you cannot mark anything manually, the whole area map is revealed all at once so you don't know where you have and have not explored, leading to not knowing where to go nor where there were things you couldn't yet reach and had to come back later, I only managed to finish this game using an outside map.
Fairly underrated and fun. The strongest aspect is the atmosphere and setting. A little rough around the edges but still worth playing if you have the time.
