Made my buddy go insane from my awesome Tita skills. Great game 10/10
Only a few minutes in and I can already say this seems to be a quality release. Visually speaking, it's not perfect since some artworks look a bit odd on a big screen, and the game's PSP roots do show especially in 3D models. However, assets still got an obvious upgrade and the remaster apparently targets 4K, so it looks good on modern displays. Plus actual fights are in 3D, and thankfully the internal resolution isn't locked at something that would make it blurry. Gameplay-wise, I trust it to play the exact same as the PSP version but at 60 fps and with added features (including online with rollback netcode). Note that I haven't played the original, but this style of game seems harder to actually mess up than something like 2D fighting games that heavily rely on frame data. Do I like the game? Kind of, as someone who has yet to play Falcom games this is more of a curiosity release than anything to me. It's pretty fun but kind of janky, and I think it's a bit expensive for the little I might end up playing it. But considering there seems to be proper care and effort in the port/remaster at all levels, it's the kind of release I want to support regardless.
An excellent port of a fun, easy to learn fighting game, full of nods to classic Falcom games which will delight any fan! Huge thanks to refint/games for their great work in finally bringing Alternative Saga to the west.
A fun mash up of 2010's Ys and Trails, using the Ys Seven engine but with RPG systems more in line with Final Fantasy Dissidia creates a very interesting game, and all the touch ups the refint/games team did are nothing short of impressive. The models touch ups, rollback netcode and getting the english casts was not an expected thing for a small fun spinoff getting localized finally in 2025.

very fun! Great for fans of both series.

I had a blast!!! Unexpected surprise for a Falcom fan!
Ys vs. trails is an interesting fighting game similar in some context to smash bros in that it isn't a traditional one and has items during combat but it goes a step further than that with having equipment and levelling up characters, it has a very interesting balance to it that honestly? Plays less like it was meant to be a party game fighter and more like it was a YS game of the Felghana, origin or napishtim eras, especially for the visuals, it's fun but for online play I can totally see some people favouring the more OP character types dood. Okay full review, so this game takes place in an entirely different world/dimension? To either series having a unique storyline to it involving the various cast of the YS and trails of games, well mainly sky in regards to trails but that makes sense being a psp game originally I believe, your job is to stop one nasty big boss from regaining power and destroying all worlds dood!? For the story mode you play as one of five characters, the lines, who you fight and one particular boss which can be one of three variety are based on who you choose, the only real lines that stay practically if not totally the same are Lappy's which I admit got kinda eh after the second time so I always skipped his lines (sorry Lappy VA) but they do a great job of bantering and having each character you choose take the lead in their own way dood. The music as expected from Falcom is great and uses the various tracks from each series, some changed a little I believe unless my ears and memory just suck <-> and the same of the stages, a lot of which are based on areas from the series dood. The game plays rather...interestingly? You have a block, dodge/chase dash and attack button, some people can block better than others, (which is important because blocking will take a lot of stamina otherwise which leaves you stunned) most of them though are better off dodging or flash guarding (perfectly timed block) and you also have a charged attack, this is important for building up your skill meter dood. Talking of skill meter yep ya have skills! You can set up to four, they have various costs, uses and effects to them, you build up meter by hitting an enemy, getting hit by enemies or for a lot by hitting them with a charged attack, on top of that though each character has an EXTRA attack meter (a super move) which builds up via taking damage or hitting with skills, these are...actually not all that powerful honestly XD but they typically can hit many if not all opponents at once, they are sadly super blockable though but can leave you stunned if not careful dood. There are a variety of status effects too which I honestly don't see too much point in some of them but it's fun they are there, these can be mitigated with the many accessories you can get from the shop! There are many different kinds from unique yet powerful effects, to straight up stat boosts, here you can also level up skills and your weapons and armour, it all gets quite absurdly expensive dood! X3 Of course there still more! As you have assist characters, they aren't playable but some give some truly amazing effects, my favourite being for a short time you skill points don't go down which can be absurdly abuseable! Quite a lot of them too dood. The game can have up to 4 people fighting, in free mode you can even set three of them to fight against you or have it be a free for all! Which is crazy, items in stages are honestly kind of...not worth it at all XD they can appear in chests or objects you break and range from an okay to decent skill points boost, a very minimal EXTRA boost, health? I was never sure on that one and a cure leaf, they could have done more there if I'm honest but they aren't totally useless I guess, just mostly situational dood. Levels as you can imagine increase stats but also allow you to earn more AP, this being how many accessories you can equip and this varies for each character, they help greatly in campaign but mean basically nothing in arcade mode as enemies level with you, that said the accessory options at max level alone still help greatly dood. There's online play but I don't do competitive so I couldn't tell you anything more than it exists, the game has in game achievements which bet you BP that unlock a variety of things including characters for arcade mode, new stages or collectables, the game offers some nice wallpapers they allow you to download no less from the game itself dood. All in all it was fun to play as Trails characters in a more YS style of gameplay, I won't say it was amazing but it's certainly super fun to play, would have been nice to have more characters to play as in story mode but honestly that said 5 was more than enough for essentially the same end goal dood. Thank you for reading and if ya get it I hope ya really enjoy dood! ^-^7
