EDITED---- I may have been a bit harsh, DEV HAS FIXED THE LOADING ISSUES I MENTIONED, GOOD ON HIM, also I think the blur I mentioned might have been improved, however I am staying with my points about the model and the spell mechanics. I just don't agree with pushing out early access games £13.50, its not personal and I commend the dev if he is in it for the long haul, which he seems to be. Im going to keep checking in on this game to see how it goes. ------------------------------------------------------- Got this game to scratch a magic itch since Im waiting for the blade and sorcery U8 update, I am a bit disappointed with this game, enough to refund. The graphics are just not good, reminicent of when VR first was a thing, bethesda level blur, cant read text in 2 metres. The tutorial continued whilst I was still practising the first spell, Trigger made the tutorial act like Id done the next step. No levels but the hub world load The hands are off place for Index and are low rez, weird model too, like a weird goblin man. The tutorial explained how to select the spell with the action, then grip used it. Bad version of The Wizards game, where you full on gesture to use the spell, not just select. Maybe this game could come back, but it has to offer something new, not just the same but worse. It is a shame, I didnt buy this to hate it, I even knew it was just a sandbox. If this game improves and becomes it's own, I will happily re purchase.
So of course it's early access, but right now if you are someone who wants to play this game and NOTHING past that, it is not worth $20. I'd say it would be worth $9 to someone like me. HOWEVER; if you are a passionate VR player, you may see that this game has a lot of potential, as I also see. If you would like to support the developer in making this game and watching the game as it progresses, then go ahead and buy the game and join their discord. The one thing that I will make sure I say, though, is that the developer does seem like a genuine guy and passionate about this game. I look forward to seeing the progress of this game in the future, but right now it isn't worth buying to an average consumer. *edit* - I decided to list the things that I thought ill of this game to help people see why I was harsh, please keep in mind im not really trying to be spiteful, just honest, and again if you as a consumer want to support the developer, go ahead! In order of time experienced, they go as follows: the vast majority of objects in the game are apart of the map asset and are as such uninteractable. the grab/hold mechanism in the game feels very floaty and unimmersive. the physics of the player is not realistic with fixed falling speeds, no sprinting, your hands can go through walls (speaking of hands the player's hands are not well-attached to the wrists and in the case of the player opting to not have arms, it instead defaults to the SteamVR toolkit in Unity's default gloved hands, which isn't very neat. my right hand disappeared while in the tutorial. the tutorial itself accidentally was skipped somehow and I couldn't restart it. I had to blindly figure out that you had to use grip while casting to hold and then throw your spell. the sound of you successfully creating a rune and holding it is loud and obnoxious. when i loaded into the first level my second (left) hand dissapeared along with my right. in various locations on the map you can get caught on rubble and pop your head through the wall/ceiling, revealing the entire map from within the wall (very G-Mod no-clip esque). the first giant boss' death animation made him fall halfway through the wall. the second giant boss (spider lady/queen) was very goofily animated and I didn't even know I killed her while I was running away lobbing spells behind me. (her death animation also put her halfway into a wall). upon approaching the spider queen's lair my computer started chugging as my reprojection rate went as high as 45%. I kept walking for 30+ seconds through corridors only to find they were dead ends and I had to walk all the way back (doesn't sound like a lot but annoying to do that for a minute straight). at this point I tried drinking my potion by dropping it on my head (as at first it didn't seem like i could just tip it back and sip it. this crashed my game somehow. I loaded it back up and saw my arms again for the first time since prior to when my tutorial glitched out. i accidentally clicked on the 2nd (or 3rd maybe?) level and didn't have a chance to fix it before i loaded into it. Had to walk a few minutes in a admittedly pretty canyon to find a giant sandworm that started attacking me. I wanted to die to go back to the main lobby but it didn't seem like it was damaging me at all. eventually it burrowed into the ground over me and clipped my player's hitbox through the floor of the canyon and I fell through the map forever. That was a compilation of all my complaints in my 22 minutes of playtime :).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1rn3lRa4wo Tried out the first level and it was pretty fun. This game initially launched with some major bugs but most of those were fixed on day 1. There are still some minor bugs here and there but this game is in very early access. The locations in this game are beautiful and the monsters you fight are really well made. I found it a little easy to beat the giant but since this was my first mission I can understand that. There is a lot still to come into this game so if you are unsure you can always wait before you buy it and keep track of the progress. Keep in mind that the price will likely increase when more and more content gets added. This game has major plans which includes gathering/crafting and the developer is happy to answer any questions you might have on their discord. I recommend this game 100%
I supported this game on kickstarter and had very high hopes for it. The environments are beautiful, the monsters well desgined, the magic effects amazing. However, after more than a year with no update, no communication, or anything, I cannot recommend this game for any price. It appears to have hit a dead end in development, and i don't expect it to make it past the stage it is in right now. I have much more than .6 hours, however, steam only shows what i have played since it was released on their platform.
Played on the Cosmos Elite, Watch my video here https://youtu.be/voxjqkQ9Ahg Graphics is so sweet. I really like the look of many of the different environments you get to go to and see. One minute I feel I'm in a dudgeon, next I'm in Skyrim. Audio does add to the immersion in this game and for an early access game it works well. Gameplay: It is early access and we need to bare this in mind. You learn runes to cast cool looking particle spells. You can gain more of these runes by completing bounties on the bounty board. There is a place to practice your casting and there is a place for crafting items like health potions. I did come across some bugs and the response from the developer has been nothing, but fast to fix these. Frame rate is low when driving the 1700p Cosmos Elite screen. I've got a RTX 2080ti. This isn't usual for early access games. Overall a really fun immersive spell casting game.
I had really high hopes for this game and I still do, I think there is tons of potential in this game. I originally backed this on Kickstarter after seeing the original demo posts on Reddit. I love the concept and how the ideas have evolved so far, but the content feels dry and unevenly polished. The graphics are gorgeous. Though in the snowy area there are no shadows and it really shows that textures carry most of the quality. The soundtrack is great too, nice ambiance. This game has a variety of issues, but I'm here to talk about what I think could be solved first: -The tutorial doesn't work entirely, and there's no way to replay it. When casting spells, the player isn't told to use (at least on Oculus) that you need to swing your hand while holding the grip button. Simply pushing the grip button doesn't cast anything. After I clicked on the text board in the training field and was no longer able to cast spells until I rebooted the game. Going into the next area with the potions, I tried to cast the spell to see if I got it right and was then told I brewed the potion correctly. I still have no clue how to brew a potion. -In the second level with the desert and giant worm enemy I have no clue what I'm doing. First off, when going off of a sudden drop (like in the beginning going down the rocks) instead of your character dropping through space with gravity you immediately teleport to the ground. It's a bit jarring. Making it to the boss and shooting at it in a variety of ways yields no results. There's also no way to exit a level without rebooting a game. -In the third snowy level is where I feel the game shows its lack of engagement. Fighting the dragon enemy took all of about 13 seconds and was left with a confusing rune that I couldn't interact with. The fight was rather underwhelming to be honest and didn't feel much sense of danger. Afterwards I found the teleporter and found my way into the second rune setup. I appeared in the room facing backwards, and had to turn around to see the room. -You cannot rotate your body while holding an object. This showed up immediately when I entered the potion brewing room and picked up the crystal and found my body wouldn't rotate. -I'd love to see a settings menu with options for smooth rotation. The snap turning always has me going down a hallway at a strange angle one way or another. Also choosing between directional movement based on controller or HMD direction. Overall, I didn't have a great experience. But I think there's a lot of potential for fleshing out gameplay and making quality of life changes.
Game was abandonned. Enough said
As someone who backed this game on Kickstarter and had hopes for it. It seems that it's currently abandoned and the dev hasn't said anything since March 2021 on the Discord. If you're looking to buy this game, I would highly advise not getting it unless by some miracle the dev talks about it again.
This game has great potential but it is still too early to play it and the dev does not update nor communicate so... I recommand to wait for it to be finished like minimum 5 years. First launch of the game I played the training where we learn to launch a rune and a spell which looked good. But there were freeze on loading maps. The freeze have been resolved the day after, fast reactivity of the dev team that's good. I went to all the map and had fun actually. We feel small in front of the huge monsters. I really like the design of the monsters. There are a lot of works to be done but the game is already enjoyable. I will keep my review to date with it enhancement.
Shame. I backed this game when I saw it on kickstarter. Looked super promising but the developer when silent and refuses to answer any @‘s in his discord. Game has been abandoned, don’t waste your cash.
