This is a game for tabletop lovers and fighting game enthusiasts. It's somewhat complex in the beginning like any other good card game—that's what makes it interesting and fun. Game mechanics and dozens of character match-ups to learn. You can do the Career Mode while waiting for online matches. It's a fun story mode where you play against several NPC with different personalities at different venues. The in-game (fake) social media posts are hilarious. I think their playstyle matches their perceived personality. They are not easy to beat though. Anyway, this grind is fun and good specially in the beginning to learn the game. Otherwise, get on Discord to meet game enthusiasts and to find (async) matches! Right! Async matches are a godsend. Once you get friends in-game, you can challenge them to async matches and you've got 72 hours per turn. Ideal for busy people or to play with your little nephew that takes too long to decide what to do in his turn. There's also a Pass and Play mode which I think is designed for and plays better on hanheld PCs. I use a wiimote with Touchmote and a Dolphinbar on Windows to give the game a more "grounded" feel—it's just an idea if it sounds like something you could be into and if you already have the hardware because it's totally overkill otherwise. The game plays perfectly fine on keyboard or control. I was told touch will be supported on Switch when released next week on the 13th. I'm unsure if touch is already supported on the Steam Deck. Edit: Actually, it occurred to me that I had not played this game using a control and after trying it, let me tell you I feel this game is optimized for it. You can quicly access the opponents hand and his/her discard pile with one button press. It's weird though the UI is stuck at PlayStation style, even though all my controllers are either D-Input, X-Input or weird sh*t like the Steam Controller (2015) or the Xbox Elite controller which I thought could be good to program the extra buttons with something, like to access your own known cards in the hand. Anyway, YOU DON'T NEED TO BE CONCERNED WITH ANY OF THIS. XD It's just me that I like to experiment with a wide variety of input methods.
Good game! It captures the feeling of a fighting game, but with cards played turn by turn. You don’t need fast reflexes, yet it still delivers the same mind games and tension. There’s: 1) Prediction - you and your opponent play cards simultaneously, trying to outthink each other. The prediction isn’t random - it’s an informed guess based on your opponent’s tendencies and the visible game state (their deck, discard pile, and past choices). 2) Reaction - punishing unsafe or dodged attacks, just like in a traditional fighting game. 3) Planning - managing your hand to set up combos and future options. It’s surprisingly deep and very satisfying, especially when playing against human opponents.
had my eye on this game for a while and was waiting for it to exit early access. Shouldn't of waited. This game rocks.
Supposed to be like a fighting game but more like playing rock paper scissors with RNG added in. Too often you'll run out of attacks and just be left with unswappable specials. Projectiles are slower than many attacks. Often i find myself stuck with only supers, bursts, dodge, throw, and block without a normal unpunishable poke should they block. Cool concept. crap execution. Being subject to RNG isn't conducive to fighting games. Imagine not being able to use any option at your disposal (besides supers) at any given moment. The frame advantage is a nice concept but it would feel more like a fighter if more moves were negative on block and not just neutral. Feels like RPS with limited choices since you can use up all your normals in one or two sequences and run short on options.
This game is really, really fun. Tons of depth, captures arcade fighting perfectly, excellent campaign mode, and probably the only time I’ve seen in game social posts executed to be fun and interesting and not an annoying distraction. I’m blown away and I’ve only scratched the surface. The depth of the roster alongside the gem variance and tournaments means days of fun combinations to try. Highly recommend.
Play fighting games without fear or dropping the execution of a complex combo!
It is difficult to find another game that offers such incredible depth and balance together with fantastical abilities in a head-to-head dueling card fighting format. If you understand wakeups, corner pressure, fireball loops or frame advantage then do not miss playing this turn based rendition.
Great implementation of tabletop card game. I play almost entirely async and it's a blast!
Yomi was one of my favorite card games ever made. I love that they added so much more to the sequel without it being totally overwhelming. Great singleplayer options to learn the game too. Overall is a blast.
