They took a perfectly good game and altered it so many times until they ruined it. Creative freedom gone. GG, Devs.... GG....

thought this game was gonna be those niche peak game turns out to be completely booty juice, can't even get a refund on a server i rented to play w my friends. do NOT recommend.
Was enjoying the game a lot, very good. Was enjoying multiplayer. Was going to rate like 7-8/10. Every time i died normally loot would be in a box you could easily collect it. Was like 95% through the game and all engrams. But in the temperature island there is a ghost ship which says wait for night, we moved boat what we thought was far enough away. Slept until night, instantly died from cannon balls, my loot never went into a loot bag instead dropped items individually one by one, randomly all over the place, we had to sale away because ship was on 11% health. had to destroy furniture to try pick up loot. And more than half of the loot is missing.. Swam around in water near it. And Under. Gone, No chest nothing. 95% of all resources and progression missing. Was great until that point. But with game bugs that are that game changing/altering that you lose all your resources and progress, Have to rate like a 3/10 now

Developed and published by Bohemia Interactive, Ylands is an ambitious sandbox adventure that combines survival, crafting, exploration, and creative building into a single experience designed to reward curiosity. Rather than emphasizing harsh survival mechanics, the game presents players with a vibrant archipelago of islands where discovery is just as important as staying alive. Its colorful art direction and accessible gameplay make it welcoming for newcomers, while the sheer variety of activities offers plenty of opportunities for long-term engagement. Whether the goal is to establish a thriving settlement, sail across open seas, or simply experiment with the game's building systems, Ylands provides the freedom to shape each adventure according to personal preference. The heart of the experience revolves around gathering resources and gradually transforming them into increasingly sophisticated tools, structures, and vehicles. Every expedition uncovers new materials that unlock additional crafting possibilities, encouraging players to keep pushing beyond familiar territory. Building is one of the game's strongest features, allowing everything from modest campsites to elaborate homes and fully functional ships capable of navigating expansive oceans. Exploration feels consistently rewarding thanks to diverse regions filled with unique wildlife, natural resources, environmental hazards, and hidden points of interest that make every island worth investigating. Ocean travel adds another enjoyable layer to the gameplay by expanding the world beyond a single landmass. Constructing a seaworthy vessel represents a significant milestone, opening access to distant islands and new adventures. Sailing introduces unpredictable encounters, valuable discoveries, and fresh survival challenges that prevent exploration from becoming repetitive. While combat is present through encounters with hostile creatures and environmental threats, it remains secondary to the broader themes of exploration and creativity. Preparation through crafting better equipment and gathering supplies is important, but the game never loses sight of its emphasis on discovery rather than constant conflict. One of Ylands' greatest strengths is its flexibility. Players looking for a traditional survival experience can enjoy Adventure Mode either alone or cooperatively with friends, while Creative Mode removes resource limitations entirely and encourages unrestricted building. Beyond these official modes, the game includes powerful editing tools that allow users to create their own worlds, scenarios, and gameplay experiences. This creative toolkit significantly expands replay value, enabling the community to produce original content that complements the developers' own updates. The ability to design, share, and experience player-created adventures gives the game an identity that extends well beyond a standard survival sandbox. Visually, Ylands adopts a charming low-poly aesthetic that prioritizes atmosphere and readability over realism. Bright environments, lush forests, sandy beaches, rocky coastlines, and open oceans create an inviting world that remains visually appealing throughout long play sessions. The art style also ensures that the game performs well across a wide range of hardware while maintaining its distinct personality. Complementing the presentation is a relaxed sense of progression that encourages experimentation instead of punishing mistakes, making exploration feel enjoyable rather than stressful. Despite its many strengths, Ylands is not without limitations. Players seeking highly complex survival systems or deep combat mechanics may find some aspects relatively straightforward compared to more hardcore entries in the genre. Certain gameplay systems can also feel broad rather than deeply specialized, occasionally giving the impression that the game attempts to satisfy many different audiences at once. However, these compromises are balanced by the remarkable amount of creative freedom available, ensuring that there is almost always another project to build, another island to explore, or another community creation to experience. Overall, Ylands succeeds by offering an engaging sandbox where creativity and adventure take center stage. Its blend of survival mechanics, extensive crafting, open-world exploration, cooperative play, naval travel, and powerful creation tools results in an experience that remains enjoyable long after the basics have been mastered. The accessible presentation and emphasis on player freedom make it appealing to both casual explorers and dedicated builders, while its community-driven content adds considerable longevity. Although it may not satisfy players looking for an intense survival simulation, it excels as a colorful and imaginative sandbox that encourages experimentation and rewards exploration. Rating: 6/10

Creating an account name is super limited. You have to pay for basic in game features like a second ship - either make it a game that people pay for or don't. I used to play this and the game is so insanely different now that I only recognize the basic aesthetic. Bad case of early access.
tl;dr: Tons of content, extreme amount of custimization (except for your player model), haven't spent a cent and highly recommend it Extremely fun, and a mind boggling amount of freedom in terms of customization and building. I've played a LOT of survival-crafting games over the years and few come anywhere remotely close to the level of detail you can put into your builds. Highly recommend it, although it is no longer in active development so keep in mind there wont be any more new content. There's plenty to do though so I wouldn't stress about it, plus it's free so there's that. Also saw another review saying you hit a pay wall when you get to the "second ship" which is untrue. You have to pay to have more than one ship but you wont ever need to have multiple as they get bigger and faster with each successive ship. If you run into a problem with it all you have to do is relinquish ownership of the old one and claim the new one.
