A lot to dislike, for me. Combat can be hard to see, specially in crowded squares, leading me to sometimes target the wrong person by accident. There is zero inventory system for equipment, and very poor RNG gear choices from fights. There is no meta progression. The purely rng drops are very limited in number and types, meaning you are unlikely to get anything you want or need for a build. Enemies accrue buffs after each inn stay, but are supposed to reset after each chapter boss. The reset seems bugged as it has not always reset for me (once it did, once it didn't). Very difficult and rare to get any healing other than the inn (which buffs enemies and is ultimately a doomed approach). Couple with no meta-progression and lousy loot drops means that each run is pure luck.
Yaengard is a good game. The combination of classes determined by what weapons you wield mixed with the traits mechanics makes for fun combinations. However the U.I. can be a bit confusing at time (especially when you're trying to choose one of your three adventurers for a choice that affects their traits). Overall pleasant experience that doesn't linger on for too long. Final Score: 7/10
I like the idea of crafting the personalities of my adventurers and customizing their playstyles. Unfortunately I feel like even the lowest difficulty forces me to be a min-max andy with how difficult the enemies or encounters are. It's not my idea of fun but I'm sure many other people will enjoy it.
RNG borefest, avoid and ignore. I tried to give it a chance, being a tactical game and all (2nd run got up to 60% of act2, passed the ice trial, run with no deaths on normal) but enough is enough. I can only tolerate so much an enemy with 8% dodge 3 TIMES IN A ROW... while my 50% dodge character can't dodge to save his life. To be fair, there are some signs of a decent game buried beneath all of the RNG bull crap, but it is buried deep so avoid this and let it die.
No endless / sandbox mode. Loose your whole party just as you're getting things together. Such a small feature to implement and such a huge waste without it.
Yaengard je příjemná hra, kterou si stojí za to zahrát. Především milovníci a fanoušci Dračího doupěte si ji budou užívat plnými hrstmi, protože souboje a náhoda jsou tahounem jinak velice jednoduchého ovládání a snadné hratelnosti. Příběh je sice plný klišé, ale do hry také dobře zapadá. Horší je to už s hudbou, která je absolutně nevýrazná, a přesílenými soupeři.” Více v recenzi
This is a fun game which could use more polish. Description: A 3 act game with 3 characters. Acts have mini-bosses and a boss finishes each act. To progress through an act, you make an event choice: Fight event, non-combat event, or an event which can be a mix of combat/not combat. A character uses a "Stamina" to do an event. When a character runs out of stamina, it can't do events and loses movement in combat. You can refresh stamina/health by going to an Inn, but then combat gets more difficult. Combat uses a tile system (instead of hex based). Characters in the same tile can use close combat weapons. Characters not in the same tile use range weapons. There are several different mechanics, buffs, debuffs which make combat challenging. Pros: * Class system - character class changes based on what weapons a character uses * Different take on turn based strategy - not hex based * Good fight mechanics * Good RPG elements - stats, gear, character traits are all well done * Challenging Cons: * Slow start - You are nearly halfway through the first act before you get your classes * Lack of help - No way to get information on game mechanics. * Class balancing needed - some classes aren't very good. * Bugs * No steam achievements This game is quite enjoyable to play, but often feels like it is in "early access". Still, I completely recommend the game.
A solid game within its genre, I just wish there was even more content, but I don't fault the devs seeing as their team size is quite small and they need to keep the lights on, it would be unfair to expect infinite content drops for a one-off purchase. That said, I would prefer paid DLC's rather than a full-on sequel of similar size and scope as the original, there's no need to re-invent the wheel. TL;DR Very good game, kinda short, has challenge runs to make up for the relatively short campaign.
This game is actually dope. I don't understand how it is not more popular. There is tons of character customization and unique ways to build your party, which for a roguelite, creates tones of replayability. I really enjoy the class system which is created from your left and right weapons. As the story progresses it also creates a unique situation where you pivot classes based on weapon level or sometimes really like the party set up and pass on weapons to continue with the class archetype or weapon skills. Another cool thing is the personality system which adds various bonuses based on the choices you make for each character. There are tons of decisions to make in the game, which tbh, is sometimes frustrating, but more often it just makes it fun. Great game overall if you enjoy customization, choices with tangible consequences and simple turn based combat that becomes more complex as the game progresses. Only quip with the game is the story is kinda basic. Very LOTR esq. "leave home to destory the ultimate evil corrupting the land" etc etc.
A cute, pretty fun tactical game about saving the world from oppression. Took a little bit for me to get the hang of it and I'm not sure how I'd do in hardcore mode, though now that I get how it works I'd probably try to go longer between long rests. You benefit from save scumming to roll for better benefits per encounter.
