About
Xotic is an arcade-style first-person shooter where you rack up huge scores by shooting enemies, detonating chain reactions, and discovering secret power-ups and point multipliers. Armed with a weaponized symbiotic creature called the Macroterra, you must cleanse the evil presence and re-plant the seeds of life on a planet ravaged by the minions of the Orb.
Destroy the insidious scab plants and new life will grow in their place, diminishing the Orb’s control of the planet. Trigger scab plant chain reactions to earn score multipliers and chain bonus points. Collect Orb essence to boost your score, or grab them in mid-air to earn an aerial combo bonus. Seek out and destroy the hidden Orb brains and collect all of the Orb essence in each level for even more points.
Earn experience points to upgrade your weapons and skills, including “Absorbtion” which pulls points towards you automatically! Unlock the secrets of “Hard Hologram” technology to deploy mobile shields or aerial landing platforms.
Xotic is a unique arcade shooter experience unlike anything you’ve played before. Get it now!

The base idea of the game is solid, an arcade shooter that rewards fast progression. However the execution is mediocre at best. Physics is weird, movement feels sloppy, shooting doesn't feel good at all, and the enemies are the most basic AI possible. There is a potential there, but the game needs a LOT of polishing.
Xotic is an ancient console (Xbox 360) game from 2011. It's a whopping 13 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for the typical features of modern gaming PCs, hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on contemporary machines. The game looks and feels dated. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an old game. This seems to have be lingering on Steam with an inflated price to try profit from abandonware. This is a weird shooter where apparently your gun is an insect, because, I dunno, they thought that's what Xbox 360 gamers really wanted was a shooter but your gun is a bug. They were wrong. And while FPS games are great, somehow they just went way wide of the mark, going for gimmicks and combos rather than just tying the game to a strong and rich narrative. Developers still have to learn that content is king. On the upside, the game does feature customisable controls and resolution, so at least some of the basic, minimum requirements have been met. Unfortunately there's a number of other technical defects and shortcomings which contribute to the game being difficult to recommend to gamers. The controls and game handling are notably very clunky, sluggish and unsmooth here. It's janky and unsatisfying to play... and any experienced gamer will tell you, the handling, responsiveness and general gameplay feel of the control scheme must be well polished for this kind of game to succeed. Unfortunately, this is something the developer seems to have phoned in, with little to no apparent gameplay testing. They dropped the ball on this one. Because this is designed for consoles, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the inferior console gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was a second thought for the console-centric developers. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for consoles forces upon a game. Once more, console peasants have made gaming worse for everyone. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 8 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Xotic is relatively expensive for an abandonware nostalgia gouge, at $10 USD, and it's not worth it. The game is just too old, hasn't been modernised. And as the old saying goes, you can't go home again. For comparison, the $10 asking price for this game could get you games like "Assassin's Creed: Odyssey", "Mass Effect Trilogy Pack" or "Stellaris". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
Overall Rating - 3/10

Buy rating - only on a deep discount.

Length - Plenty of content.
This games engine hasn't aged too well, besides the engine being ugly the UI is not the greatest, it gets in the way of things. Overall there are just too many things going on with score, power ups, bonuses, and chains. All I did was shoot the red egg things, and the bad guys... was hard to tell when I was winning still though based on all the flashes, noise, and random voice. Pros

Ran well
Pretty colors
Cons

Ugly UI
Too confusing, nothing is streamlined gameplay wise.
Better games in this genre for sure.
I had this game in my backlog from years ago somehow, probably from a bundle. Blasted through all of it in one go. This is a relatively boring treasure hunt with first person shooter mechanics and a leaderboard.
A bizarre biopunk themed arcade score attack fps. It's sloppy in places, but has a ton of charm.
Yes!
I like the style. For arcade orientated players.
