Crashes so much, even with the CC
This is a magnificent game that improves upon all the flaws of the original XCOM: UFO Defense from the DOS era. There is so much you can do, and the hand drawn art is beautifully splendid. If you liked the original XCOM, you'll love this.

Not great, not terrible. Giving a thumbs down after yet another crash.
Was excited for the sequel, but reviews there make me think it's best to hold off until it's had more time to cook for the time being. The good news is, if you enjoy the kind of suffering only OG X-Com could once provide, this is still a very good and currently complete game.
I like it, but the game has some shortcomings. The aliens seem to lack a little bit of character. Even today i can recollect the sound of a gillman or and aquatoid's death scream. A tentaculat plopping in wet destruction. This game lacks that character. Weapons are very real-world equivalent, which might be good for some people, but i don't quite get the satisfaction. Gas cannons were meaty and powerful, jet-harpoons were weak but forgiving to miss with, I don't quite get any of that game balance here. Rifles were about just as powerful as a pellet or two of the shotgun and the accuracy of your troops are so low you might as well use everyone like a shotgunner. Early game weapons are not great. Grenades are not great. For whatever reason Mr Gollop must have thought big blasts made the game too easy, so you didn't get any of the 4-5 square explosions from a default grenade. Even the big boy grenade has a 3x3 blast radius, exactly the same as the default nade. Explosions are not fun unless they were delivered from a bazooka, but the zooks were heavy, so even that was a big tradeoff in the fun factor. I'm very near the end, no disrupter pulse equivalent weapons, so I suppose this game doesn't do big explosions at all. Stun weapons aren't great too (xcom had immediate effect knockout blasts, this sets a gas that you had to gamble a turn end on). Overall gunplay gets a 5/10 out of me. Sound design a 6/10. Game's an 7.5/10, because you really end up repeating the same mission over and over again. Like at some point in the old games you start hating terror missions for it's length and complexity and the chore of hunting aliens, in this one, even with downed UFOs, you have to hunt them in the middle of a suburb or a factory, it's just that.. grating. Also, not sure why, but the game seems to drop less civilians in this game, I was a fan of non-stop hearing aliens blast civs (Hidden action screams are lol) turn after turn, until it gets quieter and you know they're going to start hunting you now.. not a perfect recreation, hopefully it gets better.
Lacks the "sauce" to really sink your teeth into. If you're an X-COM nut, especially of the original MicroProse titles, looking for something to bring your special interest into the 21st century: This game is for you. If you have enjoyed the X-COM titles but also sampled the many spiritual successors and improved modern iterations of that formula, you will struggle to enjoy this game. It is a remaster of X-COM: UFO Defense in all but name, but where it improves on the original games visually, it distinctly lacks any soul. The original X-COM games hold up not just because of their uniqueness and character, but because you can see the foundations upon which decades of turn based strategy games were built. Xenonauts has no such privilege, as it does nought but mimic that which was great, with very little understanding of what made it so. It cannot stand on its own two feet.
Full of bugs and weird glitches, and the game crashes frequently. Keyboard shortcuts don't work for some things (quick-load, toggle crouch). The final mission just won't complete sometimes. For a game that had no requirement for creativity (given it is a play-for-play copy of an existing DOS game), it's crazy that the devs didn't put in a little effort to make it better than a reskin of the original.
Good successor of old X-Com. Nice addition of air to air combat. Ground battles are an upgrade from original x-com. It becomes. Limited number of battle maps makes whole experience a repeatable. Overall positive
